I do something similar on a couple of my teams that I lead. I have them where members can post either their miles, minutes, or steps. People record them differently and I see that is happening here too!

The challange is fine with me to do monthly.

What do you say we do this challenge as ongoing for as long as you want it to continue! I'll post the totals at the end of each month, and get us started for the next month. If you post once and go back and 'edit' your post it will be easier for you to follow your progress!

There will be no 'winner' or 'loser' because we will ALL be winners if we keep moving!! Everyone who participates in this challenge will get a Team Goodie at the end of the month!

I've not had luck with pedometers.
I've got one that I got free that works better than any I've ever purchased.

I just did several tests on two the other day,
For the first test, I wore them both and walked 25 steps. One read 22 steps and the other read 3 steps. The second one was the one I purchased last year. The first one that was almost correct was one I got free with some soap and shampoo purchase a few years ago.

The free one is fairly acurrate if I wear it with a couple pairs of pants but not with others. Strange but true so I just have to dress "properly" if I want to use the pedometer.

Someday maybe I'll find a pedometer ....
In the meantime I map things out and do walks by miles. This is for my exercise walks/hikes.

Someday I'll find a pedometer I like...
but first I need ...

emoticon I wish I had me a handy dandy pedometer but I just don't, but maybe I can walk a distance and then walk a little further everyday. I just don't think there would be a way I can track it at this time. But good luck to all of you; think of my smiling face cheering you along the way! emoticon emoticon

I know... so many times I have headed out on a walk and then said, "D#@$ ... I forgot my pedometer!" Thanks to Spark People for giving us the Map for Fitness! I have just mapped out my route and WAH-LAH ... I have the miles!! Now, I love knowing how many miles I've walked, but I LOVE knowing how many steps I've walked... it just seems so much farther! So good luck everyone! If you have any questions on how to do this... there are a lot of us who have the answers for you!

I have a couple of pedometers, some really cheap and don't work well and some that are ok. The problem is, I just keep forgetting to grab them when I head out to walk. I know people where them all day, which is something that I would even forget to do if I change clothes.

May I share what has worked for me? I started wearing a pedometer over a year ago. I followed the plan Becky has set out here and challenged myself to do 100 more steps a day. At first I was only getting 4-5,000 steps a day. Now 10,000 steps a day is my "normal". The pedometer really helps keep you accountable. Sometimes I see I'm short of my 10,000 goal when I settle down to watch tv in the evenings. So I challenge myself to walk through all the commercials. I've been amazed that in an hour or two of tv time, I do 2,000 or more steps! DH gave me a new pedometer for Christmas that hooks up to my computer, so now I have a permanent record of my steps.

I do miles not steps! I will increase my running minutes

Mon 03/21 = 1 mile Run 5 mins
Tue 03/22 = 1.5 miles Run 10 mins
Wed 03/23 =1 mile Ditto
Thr 03/24 = 1.3 miles Ditto
Fri 03/25 =2 miles Ditto
Sat 03/26 =
Sun 03/27 =
etc., etc., etc...

I started Spring off by taking a fieldtrip to the shore Sunday when the weather was nice and taking a walk on the beach.
A two mile walk on the beach with a sidetrip along the breakwall with some yoga stretching on a lovely granite slab in the sun. Needless to say I had no desire to come home! But eventually I forced myself back to the parking lot...

Today the weather is ugly and I've been doing the whole doctor/dentist appointment circuit. Nothing like yesterday's fieldtrip... ahhh, a nice memory to close my eyes and think about while stuck sitting sitting and more sitting.
Now off to multi-task and strength train while hardboiling a carton of eggs. Jealous?
Maybe tonight I'll test out that walking DVD I picked up the other day.... I'd rather be beamed back to yesterday [que up The Beatles and fade out....]

I do miles not steps.

Mon 03/21 = day of rest for me from the last 2 days of walking....shins are hurting! but I climbed my stairs a couple of times today..
Tue 03/22 = 1 mile
Wed 03/23 = 0
Thr 03/24 = 0
Fri 03/25 = 0
Sat 03/26 = 4.5 miles
Sun 03/27 = 1/2 mile

Just because we are a team that focuses on eating healthy doesn't mean we shouldn't put some of our focus on exercise. After all the Mediterranean Pyramid foundation is ... what??? Yes, EXERCISE!! Some kind of exercise everyday!

Walking is a great simple form of exercise that doesn't require anything more than putting one foot in front of the other. Spring is sprung... now let's get moving!

Quite a few of us are new to walking for exercise. Let's use this challenge to bring our walking up to the next level. For example if you are doing 4000 steps per day, the next day do 4001, then the next 4002. Or surprise and challenge yourself....go from 4000 to 4100. The purpose is to increase daily. Before you know it you'll be surpassing the recommended 10,000 steps a day!

Remember this is a journey and a journey begins with a step, then the next step and the next.

Use this forum to tell us how you have challenged yourself to take that extra step each day and your progress. Let's challenge and encourage each other to take that extra step daily!
