This week I exercised in the afternoon, after lunch as well as in the morning. This was new for me and I found it energized me. Usually after lunch I wanted a nap, now after exercising I am wide awake and accomplishing much more.

I have done this in the past -- I don't know why I stopped. I feel sooooo much better when I drink at least 8 glasses a day. Living in the desert dries up my eyes and nose. When I drink all my water, I don't have any problems. You'd think I would learn. Well I'm starting over with a new commitment.

I just joined Spark on Friday, May 29th. I have set the same goals for week 1 as you have. The best way for me for this to become 2nd nature is to take baby steps. I'll master drinking my water and stretching more each day (no not fork to mouth - at least this time) and add little by little until I can go the full distance.

This is my first post. I made my first fresh and low cal pizza for dinner this week. I used one whole wheat pita, organic marinara sauce, reduced fat mozzarella, grilled chicken, and grilled red onion and bell peppers. It was very filling and was MUCH tastier than any delivery style pizza... no grease!

Well, I couldn't really think of anything but then I remembered I was taking a look at my DD11's bike and realizing that she finally had a bike big enough for me to ride! So I am going to start biking for something different to do besides just walking/jogging around the block. This will throw in a little oomph I'm hoping :)

Mom has been talking about Jillian Michael's DVDs every time I talk to her for a month. She even sent me all 3 DVDs. So tonight I decided to try the 30 day Shred. I managed to make it through all 20 minutes of level 1, but there was a lot more jumping involved than I expected... definately unpleasant with shin splints. For now I think I'll stick to low impact cardio like eliptical trainers and bicycles. Maybe next month...

For the Wii Fit, all you need is the Wii console and then purchase the Wii Fit and the balance board. Wii Fit is an actual collection of fitness and balance games.

I love the Wii Fit. It makes working out a game, and you can burn calories with it. Some of the games are even listed in the Fitness Tracker as cardio workouts.

So how many calories can you burn thru WII Fit? I was thinking about investing in one...but I'm not sure if I will like it and if it will be an intense enough workout to make a big difference for me. Can someone tell me?

I'm trying to avoid soda and to drink at least 8 cups of water a day. For my fitness I will try to do a Wii Fit workout once a week and for the other two cardio units I'll go jogging with a friend.

I'm working on journaling every day. I'm a psychologist, and always tell clients to journal, but never do it myself. I know it's a fabulous tool, so I'm giving in and trying to do it and stick with it.

Last night, before I went to bed, I discovered this website and just received "Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred" and decided that in the morning my lifestyle was going to change. So, it's this morning and I've already done my day 1 workout and am off to shower and eat breakfast. This week my goals will be to workout every day - eat breakfast (it's been years!) - drink water instead of coke zero - and track what I'm actually eating. Let's see where it takes me :P

Let's see. There isn't much I won't eat, even if I don't like it. (My DH tells me I would roxor at Survivor where they make them eat all those weird things. LOL) I have been drinking at least 96oz of water a day but I always put a Crystal Light pack in it. Granted I am using one of the 16oz packets in a 32oz container, but still! I never liked the "taste" of water... not when there was a Diet Coke to be had! I was to the point where I was drinking one an hour if not more. Now unless it's a fountain soda, I don't even really like it. I guess my "challenge" is plain water which I am actually enjoying.

My goal this week is the change my habit of buying a soda when I am thirsty and instead focus on the golden rule of 8 glass of water a day. The first day was an epic fail as I drank like 4 bottles in an hour and spent the rest of the day going to the bathroom every 15 minutes. I have calculated how much water I need to drink each hour so it doesn't seem so overwhelming at it really seems to help.

You can actually buy Extra Firm Tofu. Not sure what type you were using. Check the labels and buy Extra Firm. Good for you for trying something new!

Hi everybody,
my "new food off the week" is a tofu with nuts. Was quite good but a little bit too soft. (Is there a way to make the texture stronger?)

I'm also drinking my 8 glasses of water a day! This requires some concentrated effort for me as I tend to drink way too little. I'm also going to the opera for the first time tonight! I'm hoping I don't sleep through it! My daughter kept us up from 3 until 5 in the morning, so sitting still in the dark for a few hours tonight might be too much!

Zumba is a blast! As long as you remember it's totally ok to laugh at yourself every once in a while. My favorite thing about Zumba is that you're so busy trying to figure out what you're supposed to be doing that you don't realize you're tired until after class is over! Have fun and enjoy. The music is really fun!!

Great start everyone!! Keep it up! Small changes in your normal routine can add up to BIG gains! If you normally use the elliptical machine for your cardio, try the stairmaster instead. If you normally do your sit ups on the floor, try using a stability ball or a BOSU. Try a different activity or a different food today! Change is so good for you! Spark on everyone!! emoticon

PS. For those of you trying to quite smoking...Way to go!! That is the best thing you can do for your health! I've read that the benefits felt by people who have given up smoking after just a few months are amazing! Don't give up! Invest in sugarless gum instead! emoticon

I am committing to drinking all my water and dancing for 15 minutes at least 3 times this week. I need to MOVE. Having been so sedentary for so long is just making me stiff. I need to get my blood and my joints moving again. I have always loved to dance so I'll start there. OH yea, and try to cut the smoking to just one pack a day. I'm closer to two now than I ever thought I'd be. emoticon

Mine is kind of like a two-for-one. But for me, to do the one, I have to do the other. I'm going to drink 8 glasses of water/day and give up sodas. Because if I drink a soda, I won't drink the water, thus the two-for. That's my goal this week.

Today I am trying a Zumba class. Part of me is worried about all the jiggling my extra rolls are going to do and part of me is afraid of getting my feet tripped up in themselves. However, I am going to do this and I am going to have fun doing it! I've got to put myself out there.

Tonight I opted for trying mustard with my tofu instead of the lite mayo I normally use, trying different things is a good thing.

I also did some physical activity, dusted off the treadmill and did 11 minutes on it, its a start and we all need to take baby steps at first.

Next week I plan to increase my minutes of activity, but right now I want to start small so I'm not overwhelmed.

I switched out my Lucky Charms cereal today for some healthy-type instant oatmeal (apples & cinnamon variety). I used to hate the stuff when I was a kid, and I'd load it up with milk, brown sugar, and a pat of margarine. But I decided today it was pretty good just on it's own. Guess my taste buds grew up when I wasn't looking. And I stuck to only having one packet.

What I do today is important because I am exchanging a day of my life for it.

Hello everyone and welcome to your first week with Sparkpeople! I'd like to start everyone off with a challenge! This week please try to do an activity that you have never done before or try a new healthy food that you have never tried before. Tell us what it is in this forum.
