At the end of week 2, I have done the deep breathing, the exercise but still ended the week on a very high stress level. I didn't notice any over eating as a result of the stress but I do find that my energy levels are zapped. I'm hoping for a better week at work for week 3

I really enjoyed the articles on how to calm down in three minutes and how exercise can curb emotional eating. I think I am going to sign up for a gym membership so that I have a place to go when I feel stressed. All I need to to is reach for my sneakers instead of snacks and head out the door for some instant stress relief!

I've been using a stress ball, but I can't use it at work because I'm afraid I'll throw it. I've been sitting quietly and drinking tea at night to unwind and I've been actively standing on boundaries. I'm exhausted and still stressed.

I have over-committed myself to volunteer activities. While each of them is extrememly close to my heart and I have accepted leadership positions, I need to cut back on my time away from home. Rather than working myself up about how much time I am not at home, I tell myself that I am just one person and can only do so much. Basically, a dailiy reality check. I am also redefining boundaries so that I am leaving things early or not going at all in order to be home and feel less stressed about not being with my family. I talk to friends a lot, too.

My job can be very demanding. This week I have found that talking 2 short walks during the day really helps with the stress. Basically I just go out side and walk around the building one or 2 times (sometimes 3 if the day is rough). This gets me away from the phones, and forces me to stop and re-evaluate the day or that particular problem. It has worked great! I plan to continue it.

It's all GOOD!

This week went really well! I started breathing exercises whenever I start to tense up and it works. I'm also exercising more, which is helping me unwind. I've also noticed that I'm sleeping more and better. It's a win/win situation!! emoticon

I had one big slip up this week, but am back on track. Even with all of my time tied up, I am using a lot of reality checks and positive self talk to make better choices for myself rather than stress out and eat. I am blogging a whole lot more, too, which seems to give me an outlet to let off some steam and circumvent emotional eating. Woo Hoo!!!

Its the end of week two and things are a lot less stressful for me. I have been increasing my exercise which helps and I make it a goal to talk to someone positive every day so I can fight off the stress before it hits. My new job change is going to help also since it is a very laid back non stressful job.

I am at the end of week two I have learned to deal with stressful situations by taking a deep breath and thinking before I react to the situation. I also have been doing some exercise daily find that really helps. Looking forward to week 3

Well, it's the end of week two and I have to say I didn't do as well as I did with week one. Things got a little crazy, sick pet, going back to second job, school, and just piled up. But here's to moving on to the third week and understanding what I did this last week and being able to change it in the future. :)

Although the process of reducing my stress involved an initial increase, I now feel so much better for addressing the issue of my (ex) friend, and telling her exactly what's been bugging me for the last 5 months! I got an extremely nasty email in reply, but I have now set a rule to immediately, and permanently, delete any emails from her. It felt cathartic and extremely empowering. Today and I am much less stressed.

Week 2 Action Plan

1) I learned the seven stress busting tips. I do try to call a friend or talk about my stress as it occurs or when I just cant handle it.

2) I try and exercise on a daily basis to relieve my stress. I have learned that Wii Boxing is a great way to relieve stress!

3) 3min de-stress. This is very useful and helps me from exploding!

4) Reflect: I have def been able to handle my stress better. I have been trying to understand and think about why I am stressed and what's causing it. I have been yelling a lot less and have been stressed a lot less. I have been keeping a journal which helps!

I am well into week two and in fact have all but finished it..not everything is perfect but my goals are far more doable and life is turning around a bit. I see light at the end of the tunnel and the stress busting goals are simple, not overwhelming and doing them in small increments has been very helpful, particulary since I am focused for an entire month to get the stress under control.

Great program, action steps, and something I wish everyone did.

Hugs Always,

This week I qm focusing on setting small realistic goals - if my goal is just 5 minutes of exercise I am much more likely to do more than if I set a goal of 20 and then get home exhausted and give up.

I am trying to remember that they are MY goals - not Mary's or Sue's and that I have set them for me based on the things I know about myself. What works for Mary and Sue won't work for me because I am not them - silly but true!

Not comparing myself to others and setting goals I can really celebrate when I succeed has halped alot with my stress this week!

I just read an article about not letting circumstances dictate your emotions. That is sooooo much easier said than done. I also read an article about the kinds of exercises to do when you're feeling certain emotions- like anger, depression, and stress. It was very eye opening. I'm going to try to do some of the mind-body things for stress. I do not have that kind of self-discipline...I can walk until the cows come home, but be still, on the inside?????? Well..... emoticon emoticon

I am working hard to remain in the moment and not try to solve and do everything at once. Multi tasking is not always the answer to how to get everything done. Some times it is better to do one thing at a time.

I think that writing it down, either in a journal o anywhere helps.

I'm getting stressed about my (soon to be former) maid of honour. It's the soon to be former bit that's stressing me. I have to inform her of my decision. The reasons are all down to the way she's been behaving, but it doesn't make it any easier. However this morning I have made notes of what I need to say to her, and that made me feel better. Also posted a blog which help me vent my feelings a bit.

It is never too late to be what you might have been.

I have been facing difficult times memories from my past. I'm taking actual steps to change the part from the past the causes me to hurt myself. As I do that my need for junk decreases. I've been changing from a pessimist to an optimist, which makes life easier and less stressful.

I have decided to go to Las Vegas with my mother. We have talked about the fact that she can't stress me out even though she is notorious for doing so. She needs us to help her as she is 85 and is funding our trip completely. I've finally begun to realize that I should be grateful she is still here and I can help her to be happy. Las Vegas here we come.

I believe that my stress level will begin going down as I have made some life changing decisions in the past week. After 20 years of marriage my husband and I are filing for divorce. I have rented a house in the town I work in and will be moving next week. We are not fighting. I think we just both finally realized it is over. We share 5 children and 9 grandchildren so we will always have a connection.

I feel more at peace than I have felt in a long time. I think the losing weight, exercising and the increase in my self esteem has helped to make this something I can go thru with grace and dignity at 53 years old.

Thanks for all the support in creating a new me. I still have 21 pounds to go but boy do I feel great. emoticon

During week one, I learned to deal with the issue that was stressing me out rather than just worry about it. If someone stressed me out, I talked to them about it. I also journaled about the things that were stressful to me. One thing I did too was plan a trip to New Orleans for the end of October. That will be fun. This week I want to try the art of Zen. It is on demand on U-verse.

i am learning that there are some things i can change and some things i cant if something is bothering me i look to see what can i personaly do to change it if i cant then i must walk away and just make a note of it if i can then take steps to make a change i am learning that i cant make all the changes in one day but if i apply myself a little each day then i feel good that something is changing for the better

I've found over the last couple of weeks that just going to the gym 3-4 days a week has done wonders for keeping my stress levels down. A friend even told me a couple of days ago that I've really changed, relaxed and happier. I've started a journal on my computer that has also helped me more than I thought it would, but I've found I can write things in there that I wouldn't tell anyone! But by writing it, I'm also letting go. As far as the stress busters go - about a week ago I was getting REALLY stressed about something I don't even remember now. But I did drive the 20 min. to the gym, got a great workout in and felt better each min that I kept it up... yay, I am beginning to get this stress stuff under control!

Have a fun day!

Terri

I'm feeling so positive! I'm starting to stand up for myself - it seems like I'm getting a little stronger every day. I had to drive my son through a very busy/congested area of the city (about 1 hour drive to get to a garage), and he said that he would drive. I told him that I needed to do it so I couldn't toughen up a bit. He laughed (in a kind way) and said, "Mom, you're never going to be tough ... that's why we love you." I guess he meant it as a compliment but I do need to be tougher and take a stand. I drove (there and back) and I survived. I was stressed out a bit by the traffic, etc. but I knew I could do it and I did.

My body feels stronger because I've been exercising and I think my mind is just following along gaining strength. Positive steps ... today I'm proud of myself!

MAN! I've learned that there are so many ways to relieve my stress and that walking is my best one. I regularly meditate, stretch and deep breathe but man getting up and moving eases everything up!

I have also seen that I try to pretend I am not stressed so this past week I am being more honest with myself and talking a bit more about my feelings. It's working!

I've definitely learned about easing up on yourself. This last week was rough emotionally/sleep wise and I realized the only way to get past it is to forgive myself when i slip up and try to move my focus from the past to the present.

The largest thing I have discovered this week is not to take on another individuals baggage ie: insecurities, stress or other negative influencing external factors! I have only enough for one! As a child stuffing emotions with food and allowing others to tell me how I am feeling, this is has been a wonderful revelation to say the least..
Another thing is focusing on Jesus and taking the focus off myself..Positive head talk as well as decreasing exercise along with the calories..In my thinking more exercise equals more food..wrong!! Stopping this unproductive cycle!

The biggest change I have made is upon waking up every morning I make a simple but definitive plan to avoid stress. And when I can't avoid stress, I focus on not letting it affect me.

I thought this would be easier said than done and some days it truly is, but I've met much greater success than I expected.

Just focusing for a moment each day and making a pact with myself to stay positive and upbeat in the face of stress has made a huge difference.

I am already feeling less stressed and much happier!

I have been very stressed this week and the scale has showed that I failed to make healthy choices for comfort foods. Meditation one of my goals was attempted every day but I am easily distracted, and filled with worry fast. But it is getting easier to empty my mind during the meditations.

I have had plenty of opportunities to practice de-stressing this week, and I think it has helped to "keep things in perspective". I have 3 young people living at home and I just take it a day at a time and remind myself they are growing up into adulthood and it's a process.

I also had some friends over for dinner (which I hadn't done in a long while) we all had a great time and played board games.

I also began playing paddle tennis in the evenings.

This is the first month-end at work since Winter that went off with a minimum of stress. Some of it was thanks to other co-workers stepping up & not procrastinating all month, then dumping it on me last minute. Most of it was because I refused to join the stress train my boss & some co-workers ride. My mantra was "I will do my best & most in the time I have & no more".

This week my dogs & I walked every evening after work except one. We drive a ways to a special nature park, but it is so relaxing, it's worth it. The one day I didn't walk, I got my hair cut & that is a special me-treat beauty bonus that always makes me feel better.

I didn't get any strength training in need to increase my vegies & folate intake, but I didn't have any emotional or inappropriate eating incidents, which I feel very good about. Tomorrow is weigh-in for me, so I hope the scale is reflective of those efforts.

I think what really struck me was the idea that I cannot fix everyone's problems. That they would benefit more from learning by their own mistakes. I like to try to fix things before they happen but I usually end up stressing myself out and the person never appreciates the effort I make. People need to learn from their own mistakes!

These 2 messages really rang a chord with me.

When my sons were young, I used to "justify" myself (as I thought) about letting them away with some things, by saying that there were more important things to argue about!
If they wanted to wear shorts in the cooler parts of autumn, fine, because they usually teamed that with a jumper and wellies! If they wanted potatoes as the main part of their meal, for several days, OK - because either what they had with the potato could change, or after a few days they'd get fed up. So, similarly, if they did NOT want something as part of their meal - well fair enough. They could have what they'd prefer, within reason. Everything else was healthy about them.
And that left the really important stuff for argument!

For me, it's learning to breathe. I don't have to win every battle.

I'm also learning that there are certain times of the month that I cause stress for others. It's something I cannot control, but this challenge is helping me to see it from their point of view as well.

I am taking this one step at a time. One breath at a time. One choice at a time.

Whether you think can or cannot do something- you're right.

If it is to be it is up to me!!!

I am trying to 'pick my battles'. I ask myself - 'Is this really worth getting worked up over?' Sometimes the answer is 'yes' but mostly it is 'no'.

My Week 2 isn't happening easily, at all - but then I knew this was going to be a difficult few weeks for me.

So far I've managed fresh air, decluttering, getting back to my routines. That latter just today, but it helps, because tomorrow my day has been revised again and I'll have very little home time.
So much for my 3 free days :(
But it'll make life much easier for my younger son - and much cheaper. He'll pay my petrol tomorrow instead of train fares.

I'm thinking of starting an account book - for when I'm older and unable, and have to ask then for help - hehehehe.

My life is not a very stressful one until school starts. I have two weeks until that happens. I have gotten myself on an exercise program to prepare myself for the stress to come. I read an article on walking meditation and tried it for the first time yesterday. It was very relaxing for the time I was able to sustain it. I'll keep practicing.
