I am learning I don't have to be perfect to make progress. I need to focus on the things I am doing right, instead of what I'm not doing or not doing "perfect". This alleviates a lot of the stress I end up creating myself.

In week 2 I am trying (not always successfully) to understand that I can't control everything and I can't fix everything. Just reading the stress busting challenge for week 2 and the three minute stress relievers it helped a great deal. I printed them as a reminder that I can't control everything. I hope it helps.

I've learned something VALUABLE this week: HARD and STRENUOUS exercise absolutely takes stress right out of my mind!

This is the end of week two for me and I must admit the stress techniques are helping.
I have used the breathing exercises during challenging moments. I have worked in more gentle exercises instead of pushing myself to exhaustion. I am back to taking my supplements. I'm stopping to rest when I need it and not feeling guilty if I'm not busy every minute. Also checking in here to the boards daily for additional support is very helpful.

I've found that going out and picking raspberries has helped me release stress more than anything lately. Of course, it helps maybe that I can eat them without feeling guilty for eating away my emotions!

I had a really horrible week one - I was just down, down down. There was a black mood enveloping me and I knew I was getting depressed and sucked into the black hole. I've been there many times.

I know my depression is linked to stress which is linked to my family life and which I have very little control over. I cannot control other people. I joined this team and embarked on week one. Not a great week, but I did what I set out to do - I exercised, laughed as best I could and GOT OUT.

Saturday was a bad day for me. BUT my partner took me out for a walk - into the countryside, along Trimpley Reservoir and the River Severn. It was beautiful. I was still down but trying desperately to not be. It worked on me over time.

Yesterday I was still down... very down. We walked a short circuit around our housing estate and had a nice lunch at home. Watched a movie, I had a long bath... bedtime.

This morning, I woke up more refreshed. I have gained 2lbs, but it has not got me down. I know I can work it more this week.

My focus for this week -

Exercises - walking/dancing/FUN

Get out and about - appreciate nature and people and my surroundings. Anywhere is good. Somewhere with a great view over a large area... that's the best.

Laugh - funny movies, comedy shows, people watching, doing something crazy with my partner or daughter. Anything that will make us all laugh.

Very similar to week one's goals for me - just MORE of it!

I had some stress challenges this week, and what seems to work best for me is to pray, remove myself briefly from the situation (the little room is an excellent excuse), and to drink sleepytime tea at night.

Just finishing week 2. I was actually very stressed at the beginning of the week. The stress lessened as the week progressed and I feel great about the week. I used journaling daily and exercise when I had time. I also used the drive home to unwind by listening to a book.

So far I have been using a couple of techniques to help with stress: going to the gym after work, using a computer journal, or leaving the area of stress. The journal helps because I can log how I feel/think, and I can go back to work with that behind me. By going to the gym before I go home, I have started to decompress before seeing my husband.

Catching up on Week 2 here as I just got back from vacation:

I find that I have become more aware of what is stressing me and my reaction to it. Since my job is my biggest source of stress, I am trying to find ways to either reduce future stress or breathe so it doesn't get under my skin.

Am going to start week 2.
Week 1 was a weird week because of work related issues that didn't allow me to put myself on the first place.
So it was a creapy week.
Still I guess it could have been worse if I wouldn't have applied a few of the tricks of breathing right and emptying my head.
Since I am following several challenges I keep a blog in which I incorporate all challenges.
Looking forward to what week 2 will bring.
Goodluck to you all.

Every season has its charm.

Well, it was a stressful week in that I did a lot of emotional eating. I didn't discover the root until this morning. Now that I have some clarity I can move forward again on this healthy lifestyle. The stress-busting techniques I used were simply (wasn't always so simple) to remind myself that this will not continue forever.....things will change, I will get back on track again. It's a matter of talking to myself before I sink too far down. I'm my own best cheerleader these days. I have a lot of hope now!

Week 2 challenges came at a good time. It was a stressful week and I was able to put some of these ideas to practice. Deep breathing and meditation help quite a bit. emoticon

sometimes I feel like I've got to do many stress relievers. But I'm dealing better anyway.
Journaling has helped me alot, even just venting. I gave myself a pedicure today & soaked my feet in a peppermint foot bath! Good gravy did that feel great!! I meditated a bit too.

For once in my life, this past week has actually been stress-free! I just took time to myself and read a good book, meditated before bed, got massaged, and spent time in nature- my favorite activity. Breathing deeply whenever something stressful comes around really does help.

I'm a little behind because we went on vacation. But this weekend was wonderful and I should have been so stressed out and I wasn't. We started Friday taking a motorcycle ride to Dandridge with a couple who just got a new bike. We left at 9:15AM and got back at 3:30PM. I had over crowded our schedule we thought with meeting another couple for supper but we had plenty of time to visit with the first couple and then come home and changed to go out. It was a wonderful evening. We went out to eat in town. Then we walked all the way down to the other end on the street. They were having a car show. It was really hot but I did not worry about it. Then on Sat. we went bike riding again. We left at 10:20 AM and go back at 2:30PM. Well I had done it again but did not stress out over inviting my husband's sister and her husband, our son and his wife for a cookout at our house. I had time to go to the store and come home relax a little and the get everything ready for supper. We also rode on Sun. and Mon. It was an enjoyable time. I have already tried the deep breathing exercises when I feel like I am stressed. That seems to help. I looking forward to a good week. emoticon

You can tell yourself that you have already decided, that nothing now can stop you, but if that step backwards is so much safer than step forwards, what will hold you true to your path when the going gets tough? Sometimes, the right thing to do is to take that first irreversible step, the one after which you cannot go back. And now, for you, is one of those times.

I actually did pretty good managing stress this week, except for yesterday, that was a bad stress day.
For stress reducing this past week I would stop and read a chapter in a book, just take a moment for myself to calm down. On Sunday I spent 6 hours on a motorcycle with my OBF and mostly just spaced out as we rode on back roads and past wide open farmlands, it was nice. I tried to use the stress busting techniques as much as possible when I felt myself sliding into a bad moment and today I have a Dr.'s appt. to try and find out why I haven't been balanced lately.

I make time, not excuses.

I have found several stress relievers, at times either when I'm tired, stressed or going thru another emotion I'll go for a walk to my friends house (she lives less than a mile away) also have reduced coffee & see a major difference in how I feel, behave, & eat. emoticon

I realized one of my biggest stress relief ways is by singing goofy songs. I haven't been doing that and I did this morning. I was much more relaxed getting ready for church. I've been doing more deep breathing and trying to exercise more. I also realized I have not been making my kids move enough. They want to bike/scooter. I have to take them out more often even if it doesn't quite go into my plans.

I think I am really struggling with this challenge, but I will say that the journalling part of it is very helpful. It seems to help diffuse negative, unproductive thinking. Sometimes it's just venting but other times it's positive reflection & it really turns things around. I'm still not getting enough sleep, but trying to improve.

One of my goals for stress relief is to get 7-8 hours sleep a night. I kinda think that's where all these crazy thoughts come from and lack of willpower and I'll do that by reducing my coffee (slowly) by 2 cups a day.

Finish week 2 of working on skills to help deal with daily or unexpected stress that comes into my life. Usually i walk 1 mile or so a day but right now it is to hot to walk so i try to do other exercise to help me out. I am try to put in place the instant relief to help me handle my stress better. I have a way to go but overall i am learning a lot about different ways to handle my stress. When something happens that is out of my hand i try to step back and refocus on how to handle it in a positive way.

I went out and purchased some crochet thread and patterns to aid in my stress relief. I can do that as well as my exercise to relieve stress. I have learned some breathing techniques to help for fast relief. It is amazing what just breathing can do to get rid of stress. I plan to change a few of my overall goals to include more exercise and yoga.

Yes, the key word is learning how to relax, my mind is in a whirlwind all the time, I am a real neat freak, and seem to spend all my time cleaning..hubby thinks it's getting obsessive..I'm inclined to think he is right..I have to learn that the world will not fall apart if something is not done in the house!!!!

At my first rehab session, the therapist asked if I knew how to relax. She said that every time she said "Relax" I curled my toes! I joined this challenge and have learned a lot to help me relax. The therapist noted the difference in my session today.

I have learned a lot in the last 2 weeks. I am learning portion control, how to fit a workout in my day, that sleep is important, that I need to de-stress to have success and that having people to talk to is really helpful. Its a bit over whelming changing ones 40year habits, but I feel good about things. I hope I can keep moving forward.

My conclusion of week 2 is that I feel pretty d**n good when I've been in motion for a while. Even better if that has happened outdoors, which also would mean a moment of nothing but "me". This is one of my most significant goals through both this challenge and the Spark journey itself.

Another important realization is the value of keeping track of moods and feelings, which I've now been doing daily as part of my morning routine here on SP, while sleeping times etc. are still fresh in memory.

I play computer games too. My husband doesn't understand how I can get on the computer at home after working all day but it does help me unwind from work. I am too sedintary though. I need to get up and moving more. I am trying to get up a little earlier and work out on the elliptical stepper each morning to kick start my day.

I have actually over-relaxed! I ended up not going for my evening walk/run for a few days because my muscles were needing a break. But that few days turned into almost a week! I am a teacher, and school is starting soon, so I feel like I am getting in all my "me" time now. I do have a million things to do, and ignoring them is not helping. Today, I am going to tackle my list with confidence! I have found that having the confidence to handle my stress-related problems has been a HUGE help. Saying to myself "I can deal with this one step at a time. I can deal with this on my own time." If I have a deadline, I make it a priority, if not, I deal with what I can for the moment, and leave the rest for another time. And if I need help, asking for it!

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift, and that is why it is called the "present".

I am finding it difficult to do the things- that I really wish to do- that I am learning from all I read concerning this stress-busting. I feel like life sometimes is just puncturing my side and all the air is slowly leaving me...
I won't give up though- I can at least write this post and breath deeply as I do...

Thanks for this site and all the wonderful info & encouragement!

When I feel myself getting all tight and stressed, I find something to do to take my mind off of it..walking, clean something, iron, read, deep breathing, and these are working I seem to be feeling less stressful of late! emoticon

Pretty leveled out. The dog walking and loving has reduced stress immensely! Also doing the fifteen minutes of meditation is great.

Week 2 has been good. I now look at taking a walk not only as exercise but "me" time where I can just take in the sceanary and/or listen to my ipod - a great way to forget about those nagging, pesky things that I have yet to get around to completing. Also my daughters really enjoy board games and are thrilled that I ask to join it - a lot of fun!!!!! I want to try and do this at least once a week with them.

Week 2 is off to a good start, I am learning to avoid those things that really cause me soo much stress, I find deep breathing helps a lot, a good walk, if you feel tensions rising, it always settles me down. I try to over-look my husbands messy ways, I'm a neat freak, so it really stresses me out..I have learned to control myself and not get snarky lol!Speaking in a nice tone instead of a nagging tone gets better results lol! My Mom always said you will attract more with honey than vinegar! emoticon emoticon emoticon
