My goals this week:

1. Try to go to bed by 10:30 each night so I don't get overtired

2. Create a weekly schedule, structure de-stresses me, and I've been craving weekly structure...just need to sit down and do it!

3. Write on my blog twice this week, addressing my stressors.

(Added bonus - do yoga 1x this week!)

1. My challenge goal for the next 7 days, and on...is to write out my frustrations on paper instead of taking them out of people, especially my family. I love to write and keep a blog (womanreaderwriter.blogspot.com/) and try to handle my stress or anger by writing about it, wo this challenge seems to be right in line with this group's goals.
2. I also want to try to use stress practices to calm myself down when I'm stressed. I'm a type A personality, so me and the action "calm" are not usually associated with each other.

My goals are:

1. To learn to cope with stressors better, and not rely on food to calm me.

2. To sleep better. I know that the more stress I feel, the harder it is for me to fall asleep. And the more tired I am the more everything stresses out.

3. To be able to communicate my feelings more effectively. And not to feel guilty using the word no.

Trish,
I am borrowing your Week 1 goals for myself with a few tweaks because it sounds like we're in need of similar changes in our lives. lol Thanks very much fo sharing!

GOALS:
1 - Stop looking for relaxation in beer cans.
I need to find a way to relax without the aid of alcohol. Drinking is adding calories, disturbing my sleep and keeping me from my goals. I can do a better job at controlling my urge to overindulge.

2 - Find a way to use my new skills (or at least keep them sharp)
My current job does not lend itself to opportunities to lead or manage others. Since I know just having a job in this economy is a blessing and with three little ones to provide for, I need to find a better way to A) challenge myself professionally and B) find the patience to make this change happen.

3 - Have fun for fun's sake
I need to make time for something that is not required. I love to read, for example, and now I don't have assignments tied to my reading. I also scrapbooking and listening to music. All of these activities help me to relax and fuel my imagination. Setting aside time for these pursuits will be greatly appreciated!

My goals for this challenge are:

1. To take me time, at least 10 minutes a day, away from everyone to meditate and relax myself

2. Have at least one day a week to go hang out with friends, visit my mom (my best friend), do something fun that I enjoy!

3. Become a happier, healthier person who lives in a much less stressed environment

My goals are as follows:

1)To continue writing in my journal and reviewing it at the end of the week to see how my mood correlates with sleep, exercise and so on.

2)I want to be active and make more effort in living reduced stress or stress free life. (some stress can be healthy but I don't want it to take over)

3)Find something that will continually bring me peace maybe try something new or find a new hobby. I'm going to keep on crocheting, write poetry and so on.

4)I want to do things that will help me and not focus so much on helping other who are only using me. It's time for me to take a stand for myself.

I'm new to the Team (Hi Everyone!). During grad school I had what I called "Regularly Scheduled Meltdowns," where the stress and frustration became too much and only a good cry would fix it. Sadly, this has not changed since the end of school (AUG2010). Now I fear that my stress is due to not enough to do. I haven't adjusted to regular life. I'm also eager to find work with my new skills and am impatient with the prospect of waiting.

Since I am under contract to work here for at least six months (a blessing in this economy, I know!), I need to find a better way to A) challenge myself professionally and B) find the patience to make this change happen.

3 - Have fun for fun's sake
I need to make time for something that is not required. I love to read, for example, and now I don't have assignments tied to my reading. I also enjoy knitting and writing. All of these activities help me to relax and fuel my imagination. Setting aside time for these pursuits will be greatly appreciated!

I'm sure that I'll have more / different goals as the challenge moves on. Here's to a successful week for all of us!

My goals are:
1- to journal what is bothering me. I have a very hard time expressing myself to others. I don't want to bother people.
2- to learn to say "no" to people that take advantage of me because they know I won't say no.
3- try to find a inner peace with me.
4- quit going to food and stuffing my face, I am the only one I hurt... over & over.
5- try not to feel guilty over things that I could not do anything about.

WOW... just writing this down is a biggie for me.

Don't underestimate the power of a touch, a soft smile, a kind word, or a small act of caring. It has the potential to turn a life around!

I'm going to try not to set too many goals--so I don't stress myself out! :) (It's ok, breathe...)

1) Journal because it feels good
2) Exercise more because I'm less tired AFTER I do
3) Relax with yoga or stretching because I think I'll like how it feels
4) Wait a week and see how I like all this--and allow myself to rewrite my goals.

Wow--goal 4 felt good!

I took the quiz and rated vulerable. Not surprising because I have Myofascial Pain Syndrome, which is pain in one or more locations from stress and/or body posture. I have managed to get it under control with being mindful of how I sit at the computer (I work at a computer all day) and how I'm holding my jaw and shoulders when I'm feeling stressed.

I've read many books on stress and related subjects and it has helped me understand that stress does not come from things or people but how I perceive the situation, how I deal with it emotionally and that I have a choice on how to deal with it.

I need to remember:
Q-TIP = Quit Taking Things Personally

-I was journaling but I stopped. I need to start again, at least a few times a week.
-I was doing Andrew Weil breathing techniques but stopped. I need to start again because it definitely was helping. It doesn't take long so I could set aside some time each day to do them, even at work, in one of the empty offices.
-I don't have any close girlfriends. I don't know where or how to make new friends. No one here at work I would want to be around. There is a woman I live near and we tried to be friends but we're way too different and it didn't work out.
-I want to stop taking my anti-anxiety medicine. I take it to help me sleep at night but if I skip taking it one night I can definitely feel a difference in my mood the next day. emoticon

Exercising is definitely helping. I sweat like crazy on the elliptical and I can feel the stress leaving my body. I also meditate when I go to bed to help me quiet my mind and fall asleep quickly.

Week 1: My Goals

1. Don't let work get to me (this is the biggest stress in my life).
2. Research topics on stress, read articles to see what my stress triggers are and what I can do about them.
3. ACTUALLY take my breaks at work and go on a 15 min walk (2x a day that is 30 min walk).

I'm in a rut--in order to relax, I read escape fiction--sci-fi, mystery, romance--EVERY NIGHT. Sometimes I'll read for hours before I finally feel relaxed enough to fall asleep. This week I'm going to try changing it up, and replace the reading with another escape activity--daydreaming, watching a movie, playing an online fantasy game--on three nights.

Stress buster Week 1

I am learning how important it is to identify and how to act appropriately to the stressors in my life. If left ignored,it can cause my life to spiral out of control. Below are a few of my stressors.

1. Unhealthy relationships. I will act on this stressor by setting boundaries, developing healthier relationships and letting go or limiting my time with people who:

a. push their unrealistic beliefs and expectations on others
b. dwell in negativity
c. have an unhealthy perspective about themselves and on life
d. gossip about others

2. Spending too much time trying to get things done. I will act on this stressor by setting time limits on projects which puts balance in my life ensuring good health.

Other things I can do:

Question my thinking and if necessary, reframe my thoughts and use a different approach.
Letting go.
Substitute replace with someone or something positive.
Monitor stress by keeping a journal.
Work on better approaches which will be on going from now on.

By sticking with these goals, it eliminates unnecessary conflict, promotes a sense of self, a postive outlook, a peace of mind and a good nights sleep.

My goals are:
1. I don't let work stress me too much, I try to realize there's so much I can do, and trying to do more and more will only stress me and break me, almost did happen already...

2. I remember that my husband's stress and sometimes anxiety and being snappy is NOT my fault, I'm not causing it, so I musn't stress over it as much as I've been doing and feeling guilty.

3. I don't let my mom get to me. I draw lines, and make clear which is my life and which is her's, even she gets mad and evil. I don't have to feel guilty about her feelings all my life, she's grown up and I'm not only person who must be supporting her and living for her.

4. I feel happy, just because. No particular reason, and no nagging feel of guilt over something - from disorganized home to being a bad mom because not feeding kids exactly right and taking them out enough etc. Feeling happy just such as I am.

I will be writing on these things, and feelings and stress factors etc. on small notebook. I thought of using my SP blog, but I think I should write in English there, and my first language is Finnish. I find that I can tell more exactly about my thoughts in Finnish, and this is one of those themes I want to write about in my own language. emoticon

1. Dont let my husbands stress have such an effect on me.
2. Do not become overwhelmed by the to-do list. Take it one activity and day at a time.
3. Do not stress eat. Overindulging on sugary snacks or alcohol to feel better.

I want to identify effective stress management techniques for myself because I cannot change certain life factors only how I react to them.

My specific goals:

1) Go to bed each night by 11pm

2) Exercise 4x a week (enough to break a sweat)

3) Continue to keep my own personal journal which helps me manage my stressors.

My goals for this challenge are to identify effective stress management techniques for myself, do one each day, and continue to work to beat stress. The things in my life that cause it, I cannot change. I can only change my reaction.

I might add to this a few things:

1) journal stress management technique each day and the effect.

2) Sleep better

3) Exercise 3xs a week

4) More effective time management - and the way I can do this is by being extremely choosey in regards to what gets my attention, when, where, how, etc.

5) Writing more/ meditation

Having a hard time finding (ME) time. Will work on that. Also. I have planned out dinner for the week. Usually, I get home after a long day and pretend there is nothing good to make. I know that trick now and have instructed the wife not to fall for it.
