I reduced some of the screen time yesterday by limiting use of the computer or phone. Not sure how I'll get the TV time reduced...it works as background noise for us. Plus, my kids aren't big on reading. Maybe I'll put the radio on during homework and dinner.

Didn't eat out, except for a birthday party. I did pick up Sushi at the grocery store, but that was a healthier choice than we normally do, and the kids enjoyed trying something new, even though they decided they don't love sushi. The fact that I am a less than stellar cook may have something to do with why we eat out so much. Guess that is another goal to work on. emoticon

Well week one was a piece of cake. We always eat dinner together. I almost always make meals myself. About once a week I cheat and pick up a frozen pizza. We have talked about me losing weight and eating differently. So that was easy. And we no longer have cable. We noticed a month ago how we would waste our nights sitting in front of the tv. We cancelled cable that cost $150/month. We only kept our internet and we can watch Netflix or hulu plus. We went from watching tv about 9-12 hrs a week to watching maybe 5hrs a week. We have been watching less and less. Now I've convinced everyone it's good to walk the dog at least five nights a week. This week we only did it four times but we're getting there. It helps that I'm the big decision maker in my home. Plus my husband understands that I'm unhappy with my weight. And he always does everything in his power to make me happy

Well, I got the screen time limited and we ate at home together yesterday, which was a HUGE step for us. I am still working on getting active together. My work schedule and his visitation this weekend with his biodad is kind of killing my progress here. Sunday hopefully we can play putt putt or take a walk. Wish me luck!

Progress: I think his biodad finally realized that gummy bears and root bear are not appropriate dinners for while he's there. Geez...

My kids have been willing to go for walks about half of the week. The days they are complain about walking I took them to the park and they climbed around the play equipment. I am still working on a meal plan that everyone will like that is also healthy for us. My biggest obstacle is my husband. He is willing to be supportive until I tried to shut the TV off and make our meals more veggie than meat. emoticon

Finish week 1
it was tough to get my boys away from TV, but we did, we spend more time outdoors or doing different things. I am thinking of starting a collage with them. I have to gather the materials for that.

the healthy eating part was easy, and eating meals together has been a mandate since they started school and are now in high school. Breakfast together on school days very simple. Dinner meals with the oldest is hard to time because of all his activities, but we get it in a couple times a aweek.

Okay, So healthy eating, check. Being prepared for next day, Check. Getting everyone off off the T.V. from 5pm to 7 pm, No go. Husband shot it down immediatly. So I'm gonna have to do this sneaky like. For example: Got everyone to take the dogs for a walk to the store to get some slow churned ice cream a mile long walk in all. We always eat dinner together and while the T.V. is on during our meal it is only on to play background music.

Coach Jen,

Believe or not your daughter really does like you making the effort to walk with her. She knows you care. Our kids put on this front for there friends, not us parents. Kids need to know they are loved have boundaries and that we care about them. My daughter was the same way. She is now almost 23 and will be graduating from college. All we do for our children helps them grow up to be great adults. Good luck and congratulations for being a good and caring parent.

Way to go Teresa on teaching your daughter healthy choices. Sounds like a great dance class to be in and to dance to worship music too. emoticon

Saturday and Sunday were a wash as I was sick as a dog over the weekend!! Yesterday went well though- I walked down to the school and walked my daughter home which is a good half mile, she wasn't to pleased but made the journey with minimal complaining! Then we went to her dance class together as it was parent day-- it was so fun to watch! Kari (my daughter) is in a ballet class through our church called His School of Dance- they are learning ballet to worship music- very expressive and beautiful to watch! Got home and had a nice family meal. This morning Kari wanted to pack a healthy lunch as she stated the "school lunches just aren't that good for you Mom"- proud of her for taking the iniative!!

God is good- no matter what!
