My first week of shopping I didn't have much by way of healthy foods except chicken, broccoli and canned pineapple. I googled recipes with those in it and made an awesome dish. The things I really know set me off in my house I donated. Things I know I could use in the future I googled recipes for that too. As I use my stock I'm replenishing with more healthy stuff. I do like the comment below that suggests meatless mondays etc. I want to try that this weekend when I go to plan my list for the upcoming week.

I do a bit of both, use up some foods I have on hand and also buy other foods for variety, I live close to a fruit & vegetable market.

I suggest for those that are just getting into menu planning to breath first. 2) go through cookbooks you have and set a menu up (ex. Monday=meatless Tuesday = beef Wednesday = chicken)
3) track the recipe/ what page of the cookbook/ ingredients needed.
4) once you have how your planning with ingredients needed, go through the fridge/freezer and pantry and cross off what you have so your not buying something you have.

I think you could do it whichever way you'd prefer. I hate to waste food, so my bias would be to use what I've got to create some healthy meals and then once that runs out, you could plan some meals for later in the week and then shop for those.

Hope that helps,

I was wondering how should I plan my meals. should I go by what I have available in my freezer, cabinets and refrigerator or do I decide what I want to have this week to eat for breakfast, lunch & dinner then plan and shop for the week?
Which do you think is best or do you have any suggestions that may help? emoticon

Love Always
Mrs. Quen :)
