I want to make eating healthy a way of life. I work out but have no will power about food and eat out often. Would like to be as healthy as I can be with my food choice and still consider myself a foodie. =)

I started by getting rid if junk food and putting healthy food in my kitchen. End of the week goal is create a meal plan and start using it.

Well, I've already cleaned out the kitchen of unhealthy foods and figured up some meal plans but now I want to learn how to make my favorite comfort foods more healthy. I'm going to start by looking through the SparkPeople recipes.

My goals this week are:
1) To remake one old unhealthy recipe into a healthy one:
I re-made an old smoothie recipe today that used ice cream into a protein smoothie with veggies; thought it was pretty tasty and will make it again in the future
2) Pack a homemade lunch 3x week
3) Try a new healthy recipe
I plan on trying to make Chef's Meg Pumpkin Apple Butter this weekend
4) Create a master shopping list
5) Plan my meals for a week
6) Cook at least 1 meal 2x week
7) Be active on the sparkteam page

I just joined the challenge today. I've been really good about planning out my weekly dinners and making a shopping list, but really bad about following through with it during the week. I always start the week out strong, but fizzle out of umph for cooking by about Wednesday or Thursday. I'm hoping that being in this challenge, it will give me the push/accountability I need to keep it up all week long. My family and I deserve to have healthier meals.

Hi! I have never planned or followed any meal plans and usually leave all the cooking to my boyfriend. I joined this challenge to hopefully change that! So wish me luck and if anyone has any tips for a beginner send them my way! emoticon

I just joined SparkPeople this week! As part of this team, my goal is to plan out my meals for the week. I just got the SparkPeople cookbook and I am going to try and pick out 2 new recipes to include. I chose this goal because I find that I most often make bad choices for food when I get home from work hungry with nothing planned or nothing available that can be quickly prepared. I am making out my plans and grocery list now and will check back in with you all in a week to let you know how it went!

I joined this challenge today, but I'm actually going to start on Sunday to line up with the rest of my weekly challenges.

I desperately need a 'kitchen makeover', go through my fridge, pantry, etc and get organized. I've been buying healthy stuff recently and cooking much more, but I know I have things lurking in the back of my fridge that are not only not the healthiest food choices, but may, in fact, be on their way to becoming self-aware. I also need to set up a regular shopping list; too often I've bought duplicates of something I already have, yet neglected (again) to buy the item I really need.

I'm not sure about planning my meals. Things come up often, and I think I'm doing very well to have actually cooked on a more regular basis (and slow cooked items to take for lunches!) in the last month or so. I may try 'planning light' to start; maybe focused on dinner. I like to switch up breakfasts, and lunch is often a remixed version of supper (or something from the freezer), but we shall see. I am used to planning one or two meals in advance, max - planning out a whole week seems a bit overwhelming!

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...it's learning to dance in the rain.

My goals are log in and update my information everyday. I am looking forward to cooking different things and to cook the same things in a more healthy way. I want my entire family to be healthy by eating right and exercising. I have tried to do weekly meal plans before that didnt go as planned. I am ready and committed to making a change.

Hello all, when I first started in January I tried to do it on my own with cooking, recipes, and grocery shopping. I was not as successful as hoped, so I began utilizing the nutrition tracker much more closely with meal plans and grocery lists. What do you know, it works! I have cleaned out my pantry and the refrigerator of the bad stuff replacing with healthy choices. Talk about a trophy right there. I love Chef Meg's recipes, my favs!

I'm taking it one day at a time and try to improve with something each week; constantly setting new goals for myself.

and as the song goes, "I feel good, as I knew that I would" for any of you James Browns fans.

My goal is to complete the food tracker on a daily basis. It's the only tracker I have a problem with. I can get it partially done almost every day, but I can't get it all the way done, which bugs me no end.

I have, occasionally, used it as a meal planner and looking back, I think that is the way for me to go. Even if I only get dinner planned on it - my biggest hurddle for the tracker - I think I will be ahead of the challenge for myself as I seem able to do the rest easily enough.

So this week that is my challenge for myself - just use the food tracker as a meal planner for dinner and see how it works.

Well it's already Tuesday and we ate out last night - but in a vegan restaurant, so all veggies and whole foods - a healthy choice even my hubby agreed to, but my goal for this week is to prepare all the rest of our meals at home. My daughter has challenged her friends to eat vegan until the 19th, and the carnivore of the house is out of town for the rest of the month, so this seems like a good time to revamp the kitchen and start building a healthy food-making routine. I plan to get back to using the food tracker with built-in recipes to get some ideas for meals.

At the end of this challenge I hope to learn how to create healthier meals for my family. We don't tend to eat out alot, I mostly cook at home, I have trouble creating meals that are healthy and tasty. I hope to accomplish this so that I set a good example to my kids and teach them how to be more aware of healthy choices when they eat :).

My goal is to eat home more often and eat healthier. When we do eat at home we eat pretty good. I make everything from scratch. But our family schedules create chaos in the evenings and we find ourselves picking up fast food a lot. I am hoping that this challenge will inspire me to plan ahead so that we can eat more home cooked meals.

I have tried to read a lot of the notes in this forum, but alas, a week of caring for my daughters family (all sick with the bug) and then catching a bit of it myself, kind of threw my week into a tailspin. Now that things have calmed down and life is back to "normal" for me, I will work harder on finding tips to continue healthy cooking.

I normally do cook healthy foods and rarely buy anything that is not. I made a wonderful low fat low sodium homemade chicken vegetable soup for dinner last night-my son invited my husband and I for dinner (next door) and my husband was working and didn't get home, so I took my soup to my son's house and we ate it there! So sharing with them was fun for me!

I still want to scope out recipes this week for cooking enough for a meal to freeze it. I find that over the years there are some things I like frozen and some others not so much, so will have decide on something I know I will eat once it's thawed to eat! Wish me luck there.
Oh, btw-being sick put me Under goal weight by 2 lbs! but gained one back after eating yesterday so that's a GOOD thing!
Still want to work on getting some meal planning in for the week. emoticon

My week one goals
I always keep a running shopping list and am a very organized person, so the "jobs" for the week are pretty simple. I was more looking for tips on cutting calories in recipes, etc. I have been cooking healthier meals for 2 years now since I started SP. I am at goal so want to maintain with continued healthy eating and thought this would be a fun way to find new ideas.

I plan to do a bit more in the meal planning area, though, as that's never been one of my strong points. It is just my husband and I at home so planning for one or two is not too hard. My husband's schedule for work is different every day as he is retired from his main job and now drives school busses to sub or substitute teaches, or drives for a tour bus company. So cannot really plan too much as there are times when I think he's going to be home more and plan to have meals with leftovers (and he ends up not being there to eat them!) so I will really work on smaller meals that maybe I can freeze and that will be my "new learning" experience.

That's what I'm thinking now, so will read more about other things I can do!

The key to success is coordination with my wife. She does most of the grocery shopping, but is willing to work with me on the meal plan. We usually do shopping for 2 weeks rather than one, so the plan will be a big one. It's a good habit to get into. I was VERY addicted to fast food lunches (for the convenience), so I would like to plan meals that lead to lunches the next day.

My goals for this challenge are to use less processed and packaged foods, find new healthy recipes that my family and I will enjoy, and to become more consistent. I would also like to get my whole family more involved in the meal planning and cooking process.

Life is too busy and my goal is to be better organized, meaning having food in the house rather than shopping every day, and to eat healthier foods.
Week 1:
1. I selected 3 complete meals, using Spark recipes, intending to cook every other day, making enough food for left overs for the second day
2. Started a "main" grocery list with the goal of restocking my pantry
3. Went shopping for the week with my Spark list of what I needed, that I had printed out

My goals for this week:
1. Plan/cook six dinners that will double as lunches the next day for my husband and I
2. Have fruits and veggies on hand for healthy snacking
3. TAKE meals to school instead of buying overpriced crap when I get there and find myself starving

My goal is to get into the habit of planning meals ahead of time, having all ingredients on hand when I want to prepare them, and getting them to the table at a reasonable time of day. When that goal becomes a reality, I'll be ready for my tiara.

My goal is to spend one night a week making a large batch dinner so I can freeze it and have healthy alternatives to fast foods.

I cook most meals at home but find I make the same meals every week. My goal is to try 1-3 new recipes a week. Preferably Spark recipes, especially now that I have the Spark recipe app on my electronic portable handheld thingy!

My goal is to make/try 1 new healthy meal a week (I work late 2 to 3 nights a week - so it's leftovers those night for me). I also want to make-over some of my family's favorites so we can keep enjoying them and be healthier.

I look forward to doing some real cooking again; this is challenging for me since I've been single again for 3 years and haven't really planned meals for a while. I want to especially focus on lowering salt in the foods I eat/cook to, hopefully, help my blood pressure.
