Trying to stick to set bedtime and wake time is difficult. I am able to get up at the same time every morning and that is not the problem, the problem is going to sleep at the same time and staying asleep. I try to go bed every night at the same time but it still takes me awhile to fall asleep then I wake up several time through out the night and can't fall back asleep.

The bedtime/wake time routine has done wonders for how I feel. And just having a regular routine of actions every night like packing lunches, laying out clothes, drinking some herbal tea helps me to feel relaxed enough to get right to sleep.

Since I started a regular bedtime routine, I sleep earlier!
I sometimes even sleep before 10 pm!
So bringing the continuity before going to bed in my life was very useful!

I'm finally doing a little better with getting to bed earlier... although not always. But since I am on vacation, I can get up later, so most days I'm getting at least 7 hours of sleep!

Have found this challenge to be challenging my inner child. She says, I don't want to go to bed. But persistence is winning out! I am finding that I enjoy a regular routine and the routine actually helps me get to sleep.

I've found wine to disrupt my sleep so again am considering whether I listen to my inner child or the determined woman I am becoming. I know what will happen in time - we just might have to fight a bit to get there!

Week three was definitely rocky for me what with finals and such but I have definitely been getting more sleep over all. Even in this short time I think my body has adjusted to expecting 8 hours of sleep every night. My next goal is to slowly bring my bed time earlier. it will be hard till new years as I am spending lots of time with my extended family who all like to stay up super late.

I have been sleeping very well but last night I ached all over, I guess a low pressure front is coming in with the bad weather and all the areas that hurt from my fall just before Christmas reminded me they are there. I am tired. I need to get to the gym early before it becomes overrun with little people today then perhaps a nap is in order!!

I've been trying Sleepy Time tea on my work nights - limiting all other fluids after 6 AM, but drinking a cup of the ST tea @ 0800 when I get home. Some days, I sleep thru until time to get up, other days, I have to get up to pee. Frustrating. The tea really relaxes me, tho.

Finding out it I'm getting between 5.5 to 6 hours of sleep most days and doing well - until I flipped over from night schedule to days on my days off. Then, I slept a LOT - but did what I call "skimming" - sleeping lightly with frequent waking periods, then falling back asleep.

I fell off the step & bruised myself...pain does not let you sleep well. I found that with the cold weather going to sleep 15-30 minutes earlier helps you to wake up fresh and ready to go..it seems the cold just zaps the strength out of you...and if turkey really does make you sleepy...verdict is still out on that one...here's a thrifty tip to save and have healthier meals......check Super Target and other stores for after Christmas food specials... I picked up cheese balls for $1.50, Butterball turkey for $ .64 cents a pound, Target brand was $ .38 per pound. If you have the room get a turkey to slice for sandwiches and meals. Don't forget to wrap your celery in aluminum foil for it to last longer!

I pushed back my bedtime and wake time by one hour and that has helped me to keep up on a schedule.

Procrastination is a huge problem for me. Not procrastinating on a few things each day really helps. I'm in a better mood all day, and its easier for me to get to bed if I'm not a grouch.

by reducing stress and lowering caffeine intake, i have been getting more restful sleep. however, my work and college schedule mean that i have to go to bed at 9 am some days and at 2pm on other days. that makes it hard to feel ready to sleep sometimes when it's my bed time.

I have learned the skill of rising up gradually from bed. I will sit up, stretch, grab a cup of coffee (that is pre-set to turn on the night before) and bring it back for when I get ready for my day. When I work in the morning I pack my breakfast and supplements with me as I really can't eat at 6:00am in the morning. If I'm working an afternoon shift I'll eat when I wake up at 10:00am then head to the gym.

If its my day off I'll wake up and sit upright. I'll start by reading my emails quickly then I make my breakfast.

Week 3 was a turning point. My sleep quality has improved this week. Getting an adequate amount is still a struggle but isn't going to change for awhile due to my work schedule. I need to focus on getting back to sleep if I wake up in the night. I still struggle a little with that problem.

I've discovered that I need about 7 hours of sleep per night, but am still struggling to find out how to make that happen. I have been able to get out of bed in the morning after hitting the snooze alarm just once instead of three or four times, but have not yet set my clock to the correct time as is my goal. Working on it.

I've once again started a bedtime routine that actually helps the next day start out better - get out all my clothes, prepare lunches for both hubby and I, set my shoes out to slip into, etc. It really does make a difference for a better start on the next day.

hmmm, just some general thoughts. I need to keep incorporating the stress relief techniques before bed. I think that's my #1 issue. I also like to read before bed which has been nice. I have trouble waking up and going to sleep every day of the week but I think this will make a big difference. I also need to not eat so close to sleep time.

I've been on "week 3" for a long time now, but I'm getting myself to bed better now, and have even established a habit of being in bed by midnight. I actually would like it to be earlier, but I'm going to stay at this time for a little longer. The sleep itself is very restful.

Thank you for this challenge. It's a good one.

I'm actually sleeping very good right now. A lot of it is due to the lack of stress in my life and getting regular exercise. I've also found I sleep much better if I eat dinner earlier and drink my water earlier in the day.

I think things are going better this time around. I have only woken up two times the past few days! :) I took a 20 min. nap the other day instead of pushing myself after volunteering at the kids school and I did not get a headache! I went to the chiropractor today and am getting a massage tomorrow. Hopefully, both of those with the meds for the sinus stuff will put me on my way to wonderful health and great sleep.

Happy sleeping to all!

Just started week 3 with great expectations. I really liked the article about the morning routine; as I think this is as important as an evening routine.

I was a wee off last week for my evening routine, because I was working a lot of overtime. The last couple of days I worked past 11pm, which makes starting my evening ritual at 11pm out of the question.

My goals for this week are to reinstate my evening ritual (which is a hot non-caffeinated drink, reading a book, and 5-10 minutes of stretching); start a new morning routine (5-10 minutes of stretching and a few well deserved deep breaths); and to be consistent with my sleep journal.

Wishing one and all the best of luck with their goals ... have a great one...

I may as well start Week three all over again. Travel is apparently much more stressful than I anticiipated it was, and I travelled right back into my more hectic schedule. Dumb! I have to get 8 hours for five days in a row (and a huge event is being planned on the weekend). Being that I was awake, I thought I might as well check the news here before traveling once again to spend the day with my Dad. Will come back early to see if I can't get a head start on getting back on a healthier sleep regime. It's definitely worth keeping my focus on even if it does mean beginning again.

Ok, I'm going to try week 3 again since I was sick. I'm on meds and starting to feel somewhat better. Meaning, I'm not waking up in the middle of the night choking. :) So, my goal is to not drink or eat 2 hrs. before bed and be consistent with bed time.

I'm almost finished with wk 3

I've been consistently filling out the sleep diary
I have my pre-bedtime routine down
I use relaxation techniques to de-stress
I've cut out late night snacks
I've gotten up at the same time each am, and
avoided napping during the day'
on average I've been getting 7.5-8 hrs of sleep

I have set a routine and I think it is definitely helping. Then, there are days like today when I wake up and go back to sleep, I should just get up as well. I find I have much more energy even though at this point in my life I feel like staying in bed all day. When I make myself get up and do something I feel much, much better.

Going to bed on time is going good. I make sure my FarmVille/FrontierVille games are "tended to" then off to bed. My problem is getting up! If I wake up at 6:30a and don't need to be up until 7:30a I go back to sleep when I should just get up and start my day, rather than waking back up at 7:30a and feeling like I didn't get enough sleep.

Spent last week traveling with a 2 hour difference. Slept fine there but not long enough; was so busy I was very tired at night. Waking up 90 minutes before I needed to.

Since I've returned I'm having trouble getting back in this time zone; going to bed too late. Last night I finally had a good night's sleep, but both bed time and waking up time were too late. I'm anxious to get back to good habits; I was really feeling better on a regular schedule.

I was doing great and then I went out with some friends and messed up towards the end of this week. The last 3 days I went to sleep way to early in the afternoon and I woke up after midnight. I'm trying to change it again and it's going well, though.

Other than that, the journal helped me a lot. These are the changes I have made: I realized that I need to not have diet coke with dinner. I turn the tv off an hour before I go to bed and I try to turn off my laptop at least half an hour before I go to bed. I make lists of things I have to do the next day and I'm getting better at not thinking about them when I'm trying to sleep. I also light a stick that smells like lavender (lol, bad english, sorry!) and I try to meditate for a while before I sleep. I always wake up relaxed and smiling, despite the constant fatigue my hypothyroidism causes me. So, all in all my sleeping quality has improved significantly. I only need to start sleeping at night, now. emoticon Well and keep all this up once I'm done with the challenge...

majority of the nights i'm in bed by 8/8:30 now. i'm reading for a bit and then shutting out the light. i seem to waking up around the same time - even on the weekends!

The only think i've slacked on is stretching before bed...i think i'm okay with scrapping that idea since getting to bed and to sleep at a good time is really the main thing here :)

I've been so tired this week, even going to bed early! I've then been tired during the week. I think whatever cold or virus I have has knocked me off a bit. Hopefully, it will pass soon so I can monitor my habits better. This week didn't let me do it.

Hope others have happy sleeping!

I've done pretty well this week getting to bed and getting chores and prep for the next day done early. The beginning of the week was better for me though. The past few nights, my son has woken up around 3 am scared. I don't think the sleep I've gotten while being squished by a 3 year old has been as restful, haha.

Week 3 was vacation for me, so I have slept a lot, but nothing like my regular sleep hours, didn't exercise and didn't keep up with my journal. I have been going to bed around 12 to 2 and then sleeping until 10 or later so definately getting my 8 hours but tomorrow will be tough going back to work and my normal schedule emoticon

I thought Week 3 would be easy for me, since the first week of keeping the sleep journal was really good for me. This week however, I had a difficult time sleeping. I don't have any problems falling asleep, but I found that I would wake often and would wake up exhausted. I think it's hormonal, because I think I was ovulating and for the last couple of years, I noticed that my sleep patterns have changed as well. Some nights, I did manage to get 8hrs of sleep, but on almost half I only got about 6. Hope next week will be better!

Have completed my 3rd week in this challenge and I am so pleased with my progress. I feel like I am finally back to where I was a few months ago. Before all the stress controlled, now I am in a better position to not let it get to me (mostly) emoticon

Been going to bed earlier lately since my body is still adjusting to a time zone change. The movers arrived today lots to unpack. Just taking it easy not trying to get it all unpacked in one night. Been averaging 8 hours of sleep. Still keeping up with the journal and sleep techniques. Once I get settled into our new home I will begin to exercise.

i don't know if i mentioned it previously but for weeks 2-3, i was still tracking hours of sleep, quality, stress, hunger, etc but i began using the weight and other measurements tracking because i found it easier.

while i was still doing my relaxation activity this past week and getting to bed on time, because my boyfriend has been dealing with an injury that does not allow him to sleep normally (he's a snorer to begin with so its been amplified lately), i woke up more frequently in the middle of the night. the earplugs which usually work fine weren't this time around because his snores were much deeper in timber and vibrated along the bed, pillow, etc. hopefully week 4 will be better. if last night was any indication than perhaps i'm already on my way. emoticon

sleep on!

I'm moving in the right direction, but I am still having a hard time getting up and not hitting snooze when I don't have to work on occasion.

I can relate to the tooth problem. My antibiotics for my tooth are finally working. I go to the dentist on November 4 to see about getting them pulled.

I'm doing very well at keeping my sleep/wake routine going. Once in a while I sleep a little later than usual. That's a new one for me. emoticon I've had a tooth problem this past week but all is well now. That did disturb my sleep some for a few nights.

I find I'm falling into the routine of going to bed on time, and getting up earlier. Seven seems to be my magic number, except that once a week, I need to sleep a little longer. Trying to stick with the routine has been good for me.

Not having much luck sticking to my bed time. Things keep coming up that push me back! Gotta focus on being in bed by the time I tell myself to be!
