Over 60, and repeating this Challenge for the incentive. A moving target is more of a challenge, and I'm a challenger. However, strength-training seems weird to me, so I need the incentive to deliberately lift things up and down, squat down, push away from the wall, and touch my toes. I always do ankle exercises before I get up in the morning, but unfortunately, they are not part of the program.

I am 60. Trying to stay healthy. I am blessed with good health and working hard to keep it that way. Have a about 20 lbs to lose. July 2014 I decided to start working out everyday. If I skip a day, I get lazy. emoticon

Yes - over 60 here. Struggling a bit with the arthritis in my lower spine, but regular yoga helps. I've also learned to stretch BEFORE I get out of bed - that makes a huge difference. Use it or lose it....ain't that the truth!

I am over 50. Started walking 1/2 mile a day, and am now up to 2 miles a day. Woo Hoo!
I have to admit, I did work through some pain in my hips, almost gave up, but decided it was better to keep going. I'm so glad I did. emoticon emoticon

I'll be 72 in May. My new knee is nearly 5 years old and I'm walking 20,000+ per day. I love Walk it Out on the Wii and plan to stay active and healthy for my grandkids!

50 and FAB! I can't say I don't have my share of aches and joint pain...but I feel more energetic than I did at 30 - my health habits have improved so much since those wild days. I've been a member of Spark for several years - I love its focus on health (both body and mind). My granddaughters reap the benefits of a fit, fun granny!

NJ, I think you'll find food tracking really helpful for weight loss. Or maybe it's just that I'm not all that great at planning ahead. I find I check my nutrition totals before I deciide on what I shall have for an evening snack. Then I fill in any deficiencies with foods that will complete the day's recommendations. That has worked really well for me.

I'm feeling pretty good about having a nearly 4 week streak of exercising daily. And most days I went well beyond 10 minutes. I hope I'm able to keep it up when I get back to my "other home" next week. So many differences: my daily routine/schedule, weather, geography (not great walking just outside my door...). So we'll see - I am hoping to make it to the gym more often - that's where my primary YMCA membership is.

When I started Spark about a month ago, I was very reluctant to track my food and I've been doing that fairly well for several weeks now, so I hope I will be motivated to continue and even improve on my eating so that I can begin to see some weight loss.

I did another 5K (in 48 minutes) at the gym today, but was really low on energy. I think I was dehydrated - I hadn't had anything to drink prior to going to the gym and I'd been up for several hours by then. Lesson learned, I hope! Did a few shorter walks later in the day (walking home from the auto repair shop then back to pick up the car!) totaling about 35 minutes.

It was a 10 minute day for me today. I planned to go to the gym this morning, but started sweeping and mopping floors instead. Then on to scrubbing the guest bathroom. Both long overdue so by the time I finished, didn't have time for the gym, but got a bit of workout anyway! Squeezed in a short walk this evening - gym tomorrow, I hope!

Hi Nancy, you might find these self-change exercises helpful to understand your triggers http://www.changeologybook.com/exercises/

The book is called "Changeology" & it's by professor John Norcross who's been a researcher for over 30 years about what actually works to make changes stick. We need to know our triggers & have a plan to deal with them differently. I found this book & the website great. And he recommends SparkPeople emoticon

I'm not losing weight but I'm feeling stronger & fitter. Today walked 1 hour 8 minutes at 6km/hr. Not doing weights because I damaged my elbow on our rowing machine :( My joints aren't what they used to be.

52 minute walk today.
Disappointingly, I binge ate again last night. I'm not as concerned about damage done (I was only a couple hundred calories high) as I am about the behavior. I wish I could get past it altogether, but it seems to happen at least 2 - 3 times / month. Frustrating!

well wk 4 seemed to have gotten by me -

I didn't post much, and didn't track much, but did lose weight, so I must be doing something right.
Today begins My Wk 5 -
I am going to continue adding exercises and minutes to my workout - and hopefully now that the nice weather is here, I will be able to get out and walk some. Knee still bothering me so it won't be a long walk, but maybe just moving will improve the knee.

Vivian I think it would be nice to continue this so tht we can check in and see how we are all doing - I for one get encouraged when I see how much others are doing and the support is always a bonus!!

Have a great day everyone!

Vivian, congratulations on reaching 4 weeks! I'm cheating a little as I'm not even quite at week 4 yet, but I followed the group as they/we moved from week 1 to week 2, and on.

So, I'd like to continue the group in "maintenance" even though several former "regulars" have become more infrequent. I've enjoyed everyone's comments, the mutual support. Vivian, you've always been very affirming of everyone else and that's been nice to see.

Anyway, today I got to the gym and had a good workout! 90 minutes total, split between the elliptical and strength training.

I make a good attempt to reach the gym 5x a week and feel defeated when life interferes and I only get 3 in. So I have joined the 10 minutes minimum daily effort. Surely that will help.

I have also just purchased the Spark Solution and joined up for 3 months with the Spark Coach. I am determined to get this job done. Tracking the food is often a major challenge and I know we do need both sides of the equation: food control and exercise.

Hi everyone some how I lost the thread. I am not to good too good at navigating thru these pages. For the last two weeks I have been exercising 6 days a week for 45 to 120 minutes. I have the exercise portion under control now I have to concentrate on the food..
Glad to see everyone doing so well.

END OF 4 WEEK STREAK! Beginning of my ongoing challenge to keep up exercise at least 5 days per week.
Does anyone out there want to keep this group going? I'm not sure if I'll check in daily from now on.

Hi all, thanks for your good thoughts. Sara, glad your grandson's ok & the 7 month old is doing what they do :) Nancy, good to see you're into your strength work. Marilyn, another 5 miles! emoticon Outdoorgirl, you're doing well. Keep it up.

Week 4 day 5 Walk 60 minutes, 4.94 kms = 273 cals with Fitbit
Week 4 Day 6 - nothing :(
Week 4 Day 7 Fitbit 6.95 km walk = 349 cals, 53 flights stairs.

I think that when we've had to be relatively inactive for a time that it's hard to remember the importance of moderation when we're ready to get moving again! But then, our bodies remind us emoticon Good luck, outdoorgirl, and stay healthy!

I walked for 1 hour today... should probably do a strength video as well tonight, but I think I'm headed to bed.

Vivian, that's definitely no fun! I'm glad everything checked out ok.

Outdoorgirl, sounds like you're getting back on track.

And Marilyn, way to go!

I did 40 minutes of walking today, now it's time to do some core work.

grandson ended up in the hospital with this flu he has - hooked up to IV and spent the night there. Then it started coming out the other end - poor guy!! He is now complaining about being bored so he must be getting better.

Have been watching the other 2 grandkids, so my whole routine has been thrown off. But still trying to eat right, and be active (does chasing kids around and lifting a 7mth old count as exercise??)

Have a good afternoon everyone - going to deal with a miserable 7mth old!!!!

Welcome back. The good thing about colonoscopy is that recovery is quick and easy. The prep is the worst!

Hi all, glad to see you're still here. I went AWOL for 2 days because I had a gastroscopy & colonoscopy yesterday so ended up with a 28 hour fast & no exercise for those days. The prep required me to be near a toilet. Fun & games. things look ok though, so today went for a 4 mile walk over 1 hour 20 minutes because my energy's not back from the anaesthetic. Mary & Nancy, keep up the good work. Even if results aren't immediately obvious. Marilyn's comment is pertinent.

I think I just need some spring and sunshine--it has officially started snowing--we are expected to get 6-8 inches with 30 mile an hour winds tonight into Friday morning. We got 12 inches last week. It's pretty depressing in my area of the world. Bright spot--we are no longer in a drought!

Mary...I know it's discouraging but the benefit that you are getting from working out between 10-30 minutes a day, is making you fitter and stronger even if you don't see the scale go down. Are you logging your food? If not, maybe try doing that so you can see how many calories are going in vs going out.

Keep up the good work Mary and good job not going up in weight!

Today I am sick again. I did manage to get my 10 min in. I did 13 min & walked 0.38 miles. Not what I wanted for today. Hope to feel better tomorrow & I know if I do I will end up pushing myself & pay for it again.

Prayers are out there for all the Boston Runners & all that did run . I am from Boston also.

SPARKBJOK and REDROSEBUD4, my sympathies to both of you--prayers going your way.

I've gotten a bit discouraged as I did not lose a single ounce this week--ugh. I have been keeping my calories in my goal range, I've been doing between 10 and 30 minutes of exercise each day. It's so discouraging. I guess I should be thankful that I'm not gaining.

Keep up the great work, everyone!

Sending best wishes and positive thoughts your way, SparkBjok! I sometimes find that walking can be almost spiritual (but only sometimes!); I'll hope it works that way for you.

I made it to the gym this morning; it felt good to get a really good cardio workout. I enjoy walking around the neighborhood and beyond, but I can't really get my heart rate up - my knees won't let me go fast enough - unless there are hills involved, which there aren't around here.

Let's all emoticon emoticon

Glad to hear you're feeling better, OutdoorGirl68.

Got my walking in today - 44 minutes brisk, 33 slower. I've decided to try to add at least 1 video/day, unless I get to the gym. So, I'd better get to it!

Ladies sorry to hear of your losses - have been there recently and know how hard it is to stay focused on meals and exercise. emoticon

I have not got in any of my 10 min. today - but the day is not over yet, so maybe I can squeeze it in before going to bed.

My 5 yr old GS was sick today, and not able to keep anything down, and my youngest GS had to go to the Drs' so I was in charge of the flu victim and Mommy took baby to DR. He has been put on inhalers daily now - seems if anyone has a cold, he is bound to get it, even if he just had one. So inhalers it is - asthma possibly too!!

Water intake has been low today as well -

Hope you all are having a good day - keep at people - we can do this!!

SPARKBJOK & REDROSEBUD4, my condolences. Tiredness can be grief & stress related (if you were close to your aunt) as well as due to the cold & snow. Good to read that you know you can get out of it! Maybe some of the indoor SP workout videos? Start small, with 7-8 minutes, you can do it emoticon

Marilyn good to hear from you. And zoo walking counts too Nancy. Anything to get off our butts.

I had a whole day in front of my computer yesterday, with only 24 minutes exercise in the end (an SP 8 minute workout repeated 3x). My weight's gone back up again too - yeeeesh! Will see what I can do today.

And Marilyn - good job! 5 miles is a decent hike.

I walked for 35 minutes this AM, then counted another hour (slow paced) for the 4 hours we spent at the zoo.

Been non-active the last week. My Aunt died so I was doing some traveling back and forth. Still have a out of state trip this Friday to the grave site. Snow closed the roads today.
I am going to start week 4 over again. As on sparkcoach I need to get going again, but now I am getting the lazy feeling again. Can't get my engine moving. Always feeling tired. Maybe that is because of the snow and cold.
I know I can get out of this rut, but sometimes it feels better to just procrastinate. emoticon

Saturday worked in the garden pulling weeds and cultivating the soil. Sunday we moved the brick patio to get ready to put in concrete. Many hours of work outside on beautiful days.
