I started losing steam,---maybe because of the turkey day holiday let down. This week has been very fast. I am heading heading to bed this month sleep will be part of my goals. emoticon

Finished week 4. Doing this challenge made me more mindful of my days "off", which should not be totally free from exercise. On these days, I lightened up, but still found plenty of time to walk, stretch, etc.

Felt much better!

Was doing well until had to spend over 24 out of 3.5 days stuck in car and followed it up by getting sick...
BUT
learned that fitting in 10 minutes is very doable even with sickness.

Goal going forward:
- to begin building myself back up and continuing to increase DAILY exercise minutes.
Shooting for 60 minutes 7 days a week;
On the rare ocassions I give myself a day off, I need to at least take a 15-minute walk and do some stretches or simple STR exercises....

That daily 15 min walk will be my daily 10-min streak. The 60min/day is above and beyond that.

In future looking to increase cardio as % of total minutes and looking to increase difficulty of strength exercise routines ... increasing gradually over the next month or so.

After new year, consider looking at the bootcamp.
Higher priority in interim is an organizational and menu planning challenge.

I've learned that there are times when external motivation like this challenge is the only thing that keeps me on track. Even with this I slacked over the holidays, but now I know I will need something for the hiatuses between challenges on my BL team. That 28-day bootcamp idea sounds like a winner!

I've also learned that even when I'm exercising for a planned 30 minutes or longer, I should break it into intervals and do the ST in between the cardio. I'm looking forward to the more efficient calorie burn as I incorporate that.

I also feel like those 4 weeks went by very fast. I did struggle with making time for the exercises. I accomplished my 10 minutes of exercise 5 days a week but I feel that I could do much better. Last week I joined the 28 day boot camp to push myself to do more vigorous exercise everyday.

Got my exercise in every day of the challenge. My new longterm goal is at least 200 minutes of exercise per week, but shooting for 300. I've found strength and cardio routines that work for me and will continue to look for new activities.

I hadn't realised it's been over 3 weeks already!

I've managed to stick to at least 10 minutes every day, and this is my long term goal: at least 10 minutes every day. It usually means that I end up doing at least half hour or longer as I can't be bothered to get all sweaty for just ten minutes, so I keep going :D

I did it!! I found it was easier than I thought it would be to just do 10 min a day. Many workouts turned out to be more than that. Black Friday shopping helped out this past week!! My goal is to continue to at least 10 min for the rest of this year and then see if I can make it a goal for 2011!!

I missed yesterday, but I've done pretty well other than that. One thing I've found that is helping is rewarding myself. I read about giving oneself rewards for 100% days (when you reach 100% of your goals for the day), so I include my 10 minutes of exercise in the goals I have to achieve to give myself a reward. I give myself the Spark goodies and I enjoy picking something different every time I reach 100%. That's the best motivation tool I've found!

I started SP at 138 lbs in October 2010. My goal weight was supposed to be 125, which I reached on January 17, 2011. I have stayed at 125 (give or take a few pounds) ever since.

I can't believe how quick the last 4 weeks have gone! I really enjoyed this challenge--I can tell I'm more active and always looking for opportunity to exercise. Walking continues to be easiest but I really enjoyed my sessions of weight lifting and pilates. I hope to keep adding those in every now and then. My new goal is to do a video twice a week.

Closing out my 4 weeks has energized me to increase my daily and monthly exercise goals. I missed one day this last month due to extensive travel/drive time, but I managed a minimum of 10 minutes every other day and I'm over 1,200 minutes for the month...far exceeding the best I've done in 25+ years. For December, I'm going to increase my daily minimum to 15 minutes and my total month goal to 1,500 minutes.

Wow! Those last 4 weeks went by fast! I exercised MORE than 10 minutes a day every single day and learned to make use of some "dead" time (TV commercials, phone conversations) to move around and even do squats and walk! I'll continue to add at least 10 minutes of some form of exercise to each day.

Have gotten more creative about sneaking in strength exercises throughout the day. Arms are noticeably stronger, knees hurt less during modified squats and lunges, can actually now do 2 single leg squats...

I had needed to add strength training for my upper body and this challenge helped establish the 10 min which really has worked into 20 min and I'm giving this my all to keep it going... in addition to my 1 hr of walking... traveling and being away from home has made it a challenge in itself... but with this week i've got a fitness center to help me keep it going.

2 days left of this challenge!!!
I am sooo happy I joined cause this really kick-started me to get going!
I started out with the walks and then the second week when we were challenged to do a video I joined the 28 days challenge and did a video Every day. It is amazing of how quick u can feel the difference. And it feels great! Once I am done with my 28 days I will join the NEW YOU Bootcamp...another 28 days of workouts!
I have also found the Walking videos and Love them as they get my cardio up compared to my walks!
Thank you SP for having this as a ongoing Challenge!!!

I have enjoyed this challenge. I really love the 10 minute exercise. I have found it to be an encouragement to do even more. My long-term goal for fitness is to continue to do the 10 minutes or more each day. I have found that I feel invigorated at work after completion. I have also found that I don't tire as quickly. I do want to add some other fitness activity as well so I do not have to do the same thing all of the time and get bored and quit.

My long-term goals consists of exercising for at least 20 mins 3 times a week and 10 mins 7 days a week. With student teaching quickly approaching I know it will be difficult to squeeze these workouts in, but I want to keep my weightloss-ball rolling and reach my goal weight for graduation.

Has it really been that long? I have been using a pedometer for the last few weeks. I find that I actually go out of my way to walk more so I can get up to at least 6,000 a day during the week and 10,000 a day on the weekends. I have also been taking the long way back to my office whenever possible. Every little bit helps!
I also found a message board that talked about exercises to do in the winter when I can't walk outside. I've picked out a couple of Leslie Sansone dvds that I want to get, since they got such great reviews from fellow Sparkies!

I finished week 4 yesterday. My goal is to keep incorporating the food tracker, balance my calories, and get some form of exercise every day. I enjoy the 10 exercises so much. I am unable to exercise for long periods of time due to rising my pulse rate higher than I am allowed for my heart condition. I love feeling stronger, more energy, arms are beginning to firm up and I just feel better. I will join another challenge soon. I love the challenges, they make me accountable. Happy Holidays. J

I'm almost to the end of the 4th week and am so happy that I signed up for this challenge. It's help to get me started on some good habits and shown me that I can do it, 10 minutes at a time. My goals are to continue walking at least 5 days a week, and to keep finding small ways to add more movement. I've been doing some of the 10-minute video segments and maybe actually starting to enjoy exercise. That for me is a huge step forward. This has been a very positive experience for me and I will encourage others to try this challenge.

I agree with you Dee! I was very resistant to exercise before this but now I can relax and enjoy it!

Midterm goal - Be able to walk to my favorite coffee shop and back by Jan 1 (3.4 miles RT - this is HUGE for me because I could barely do 10 mins of exercise 3 wks ago).

Longterm goal - Learn to race walk in 2011. Yes - that weird walk that looks like you're waddling! Running has never appealed to me but race walking does.

Good luck on week 4 everyone!

The challenge has worked well to remind me to take advantage of the brief bits of time in my day. While waiting for something in the kitchen to be ready, I do push-ups on the counter edge, lunges, stretches, etc. It's really a great way to fill and pass time that would otherwise be 'dead time'. Also, when riding in the car, I can do resistance against the car seat and headrest, etc. Helps me stay alert and pass the time too.

Thing have been so hectic these last few weeks that holding myself accountable for only 10 minutes took a lot of the stress out of my day to day living. I have truly enjoyed this challenge and will recommend this to others as a great way to get started. Even though I didn't track every day on the computer, I kept track of the exercise so I could log in later and catch up on the other activities as well(web related). When I wrote it on the white board it was a motivating reward/reminder since the white board is located in the refrigerator. Thanks for the encouragement and I look forward to seeing y'all on other challenges. emoticon

I have enjoyed the 10 minute challenge. Most days I workout at least 30 minutes but this challenge has helped me to relax if there are days I can't fit that much in and can only do 10 minutes. I have incorporated biking back into my fitness and 3 days a week I walk/jog. I ran my first 5K last weekend and will be running a 2 mile turkey trot on Thanksgiving Day. I am also signed up for a 6K in December. Having some races to look forward to also helps keep me inspired to exercise since I have something to work towards.

Just be you, it's enough.

I'm almost to the end of the 4th week and am so happy that I signed up for this challenge. It's help to get me started on some good habits and shown me that I CAN do it, 10 minutes at a time. My goals are to continue walking 5+ days a week, and to keep finding small ways to add more movement to my life. I've been doing some of the 10-minute video segments and actually starting to enjoy exercise. That for me is a huge step forward. This has been a very positive experience for me and I will encourage others to try this challenge.

It wasn't that hard to incorporate 10 minutes of exercise. I plan to do more each day, but at least I know I can always do 10 minutes a day.

Sometimes change just means it's time for a new normal.

I am starting my 4th week on November 15.
I hope to be able to keep up the 10 extra minutes of exercise. I have been using SparkPeople videos for that extra 10 minutes, I move and stretch while cooking dinner and doing house work.
On to week 4!

Completed the challenge today thanks to amazing support from my Spark friends. My goal is to continue exercising 5 days a week and to look for ways to add activity to my day. This team has made such a difference in getting me started on the road to improved health and greater confidence!

I am continuing my ten minute streak. It has become easier to get out and walk because I think "it is only 10 minutes" and that usually turns into 20 minutes or more.

Four weeks completed with daily on purpose exercise in ten minute increments that are different from the norm for me and my housemate recovering from a stroke. From raking leaves to playing with the dog to going up and down stairs to the laundry to washing the car..anything and everything that keeps you moving and gets the heart rate up I am trying where it has to do with accomplishing something around the house...

Other areas of improvement have been finding a life stride which allows for pedalling like a bike..it's very small..one can sit and watch TV and mindlessly pedal..or put the same life stride on top of a desk and using your hands pedal...another is to use the simple flex bands for strength workouts..while this challenge has been more about finding my housemate ways to exercise without being bored..it has helped me immesurably as well. Great challenge!

Hugs Always,
Nan

This challenge has been great at keeping me going. Hoping to find another that will motivate as well as the 10 Minute Daily Exercise Streak.

I leave this challenge with immediate goals to:
Walk a weekly average of 6,500 steps a day (up from 6,000)
Continue a minimum of 10 minutes exercise 5 days a week.
Do 30 minutes or more exercise at least 3 times a week

Long term goals:
Get Spark Trophy for 1,000 fitness minutes in a month
Buy running shoes and attempt to ramp up from walking

Thanks, SparkPeople!

I've been keeping up with my final goal which is to do 30 minutes every day. Right now I'm using the Gazelle glider indoors because the weather and my schedule vary so much it's hard to get outside regularly! I'm really feeling good and I'm starting to enjoy doing it! I just have to find a way to not get bored!
