On Sodium intake...

1. Ms. Dash ...... good idea.

2. Avoid processed foods (frozen food, pre-prepared food that comes in a box.

3. ALL restaurant food has more salt than you can imagine.

4. If your hands and feet swell, could mean you have had too much salt. This often happens to me the morning after I have gone out to eat.

I am so happy this Challenge has been extended 2 weeks as I'm going to try hard to keep my sodium intake normal and not way off the charts! There is a little comfort that this is a hard one for a lot of people as there is salt in so many foods even healthy ones like yogurt!

It appears to me that MOST of us, certainly including me, still need to work on sodium. What if we just continue this one through the end of the month? It's really a hard one to grab onto consistently.

We need to be vigilant about reading labels and using herbs and spices for flavor instead of salt. If we're using canned vegetables, they should be well rinsed. You can also cut it down, sometimes considerably, by buying organic veggies and tomato sauce.

Also, the Mrs. Dash seasonings and marinades can add a lot of flavor without adding any sodium.

So, let's keep watching the sodium, water and freggies until the end of the month.

Linda....I do better when I eat at home and have control over my foods. Eating out...or parties does become trickier. It is hit or miss with me at those times.

Eating out is hardest because even healthy food selections normally are not as healthy as they would be at home.

Why is it resteraunts feel they have to use so much sodium? Geesh

Yep, sodium and weekends emoticon Water and freggies have become a "good" habit for me after 10 months with SparkPeople... but attending weddings/birthdays/holidays etc. makes it harder to control the sodium level just like everyone else in this challenge emoticon Thank goodness those celebrations are dwindling a tad emoticon

Are any of you seeing patterns to your posts? I notice that when I look at my over all daily game plan since this challenge began that SODIUM is really my down fall. IT is really pesky! Ugh!!! Gotta work on it!

How is everyone doing? Is this feeling like a habit yet? Tee hee hee I know I have a ways to go with it. Water and logging my food are no problem. IT is that pesky sodium that still haunts me. I KEEP trying though......Hang in there.....WE can do it! Karen

Personal challenge.....Changing it up a bit. I read an article that says it takes 21 days to really form a habit...so, lets work on some of our Spark areas that make and keep us healthy....lets form some healthy habits!

We will track our Water ( 8 glasses a day), Sodium, fruits and veggies ( 5 a day) for the next 21 days.

This will run from 4/25 - 5/15. will not have sodium amt for the first three days.....only the water and freggies

I will try my best I need to start my journal again

I'm looking forward to this Challenge--especially since I need to watch my sodium intake:

4/25 - 9 Glasses Water, 5 Veggies/fruits, 2,593 sodium which is a little over but ok for me
4/26 - 9 Glasses Water, 7 Veggies/fruits, 2,762 sodium which is still high--I just found out that the canned tuna I have almost every day for lunch is high in sodium--I had no idea!
4/27 - 8 Glasses Water, 6 Veggies/fruits 2,241 Sodium
4/28 - 9 Glasses Water, 5 Veggies/fruits & 5,073 of Sodium--How can that be?? Probably the 2 sandwich thins & leftover Easter Ham Sandwiches for lunch!! I've learned my lesson--froze the rest of the ham!
