Looks like the fabric is starting to arrive, waiting for mine to get here..excited canadian emoticon . I haven't been disappointed with any of the fabric swaps I have participated in yet, so I know they will arrive. I am at work today, will see when I get home if anything came.

I had to go to Spokane on Monday and got back Thursday night. They came!! I am so excited. Not sure what to do with them yet but I am sure something fun will come out of it. Thank you Alice for all the hard work and the extras. I wish you would have kept the extras. This was probably a very hard swap for you to do with your relative being in the hospital. Hope she is ok.

Now I wish I'd bought more fabric. I can't wait to get started. I have more scraps to use, and I'm just itching to get going. Remember to post photos people! emoticon Even photos of just fabric or works in progress, we're not picky!

If everyone is like me, you bought extra of your material to "tie" your strips together to make something...well, I bought extra material and then got back my six extra strips where people backed out/didn't respond etc. My fabric is the orange one with the big flowers...wondering if anyone would be interested in swapping a couple of your strips with me to blend our projects a little more. Had the fabric, thought I would ask. thanks....Rosalie

Wow! I could have walked them from North Plains to Portland in that amount of time! I seriously don't know what happened, but rest assured I will tell the crew in North Plains how long it took to clear Portland. I guess if I ever do this again I'll need to take them into the city to begin with. Glad you are getting them okay now.

We had approximately 1/4 of the folks who signed up drop out of the swap. Some never did respond to sparkmails. The last package came in to me 2 weeks late, but she had contacted me when I sent her a sparkmail, so I knew it was coming.
It just seemed a high percentage of drop-outs to not try to contact them all or wait a bit for an answer.

No I don't need anything for the extra postage, but thanks for the offer. Some were just short on postage no matter what($2-$5 short),others were only short because I added to the weight with the gifts.
I'm not worried about the cost, as long as you get your fabric and are happy, then all is well.

Enjoy! Don't forget to post pictures of your projects!

Alice, I recieved my material today and love it! I know some people dropped out of the swap at the last minute...but I got 6 of my noodles back and 6 of my charms back...did that many people drop out and if so, what a headache for you to keep it all straight! I've never particpated in a swap where this has happened before. Girls, the material that everyone chose is wonderful. Thanks to all particularly our fearless and patient coordinator for keeping things straight! My hats off to you...hope MIL is doing better! Now, let the next swap begin....and those that haven't recieved your material...trust me, it's worth every minute of the wait! Thanks again!

Dear Alice,

I received my fabrics this morning! They are wonderful!!! I cannot wait to get started on a project!

I am so glad your MIL is doing better. I am one of two children, but when it came time to care for my aging parents, I was the only one. Everything fell to me and I truly know it is not easy. Your MIL is truly blessed to have you around in her time of need!

Thank you so much for the extra "goodies" you enclosed in my package! It is always nice to get a bonus!!!

Blessings!

Received mine today, post marked May 15---the day I called. I appreciate the lovely fabric everyone. Mine was the yellow with white/blue flowers outlined in black on the noodles and white background with salmon colored flower print on the charms. I do hope you all enjoy your various projects.

Hello Ladies,

I am back home now after 9 grueling days at the hospital with my MIL. The twist and infection that she had in her intestines leaked into her abdomen and she had a bad case of peritonitis. We almost lost her. My husband was traveling for work and my SIL is in CA, so I was the only one available to be with her.

I would like to thank those of you who have sent their support and care. It means more than I can say. I would never choose any other path but to be there for Mom, it is a great honor and gift to walk with her. Yet, it is the most difficult journey I've traveled thus far (and let me tell you I've been through some doozies in my time).

I have not had access to a computer while I was at the hospital so I didn't know anything was amiss. It's not that I was ignoring you or didn't want to answer your inquiries, I just didn't get them until today and I also got a message from my friend on Friday night that Retrogirl had called my home.

I am sorry you have had trouble receiving your fabric. I mailed it out on the 8th from North Plains. It is a very small post office, mail goes elsewhere for sorting and processing. If it was held up in route, I'm sorry, but I have no control over it. It was late in the day on the 8th when I took them into the post office. They are closed on Saturdays, so if they missed the pick-up on Friday they didn't go out before Monday. Then they would have gone on to Portland or Seattle. I'm very sorry they have been so slow. I see that some of it has been delivered now. If your fabric doesn't arrive today or tomorrow, do let me know. I will see if there is anything I can do. I don't have tracking numbers (except for the one that was confirmed as delivered) so I'm not sure I can do anything, but I'll try. Most went Priority so they should be there soon.
Again, my apologies to all. I hope you enjoy your fabrics and the small gifts I added for each of you.
Thanks for letting me be of service to the group.

Alice

Leah, I checked my package and It was indeed mailed out on the 15th. Express is "next day" delivery, which I did receive.
Priority mail is 2-3 days, so if anyone paid for Priority mail, it should come today or tomorrow.
The regular postage..... it'll be several days. At least now you have a true reference point to refer from.
By the way, the fabric is beautiful!

It did sound like they were mailed on the 15th. If they were mailed on the 8th I do believe they should have been here by now. I live in Washington. And they were mailed out from Oregon. I have not received mine yet. But, not to worry. I am in Omaha right now with the Grandchildren so I am unable to do anything with them any how. I do ask my husband every day though if they have arrived.

If Alice said she mailed them, she did. I am in another project with her so I am confident of that. I'm thinking it may be a problem with the post office, since priority mail only takes a couple of days. But I agree, we have no choice but to be patient. And I certainly have plenty to keep me busy :)

Talking about unfinished projects - I m still working on my son's quiet book. He's 21! ~ ~ I am now trying to get it finished before my first grandchild arrives!

Anyway - Alice - I am sure your intent was to get us our packages right on time. I know things happen! I hope the pressure of doing the swap hasn't caused you more stress and kept you from doing other things which are more important - like taking care of your family!

I hope things are looking better for you and that you are taking care of yourself, also! Thanks for trying to take care of us during all of your other stresses!

Hey girls,
I am with you on the patience thing! I am still making my grandchildren their summer clothes and I have at least another weeks worth of sewing and then I have 3 other quilts to do so no problems here, I just don't want to see everybody discouraged for the next swaps coming..I certainly am going to do the next one in the future..I think everybody is just eager to see what they get...It is like christmas..They can't wait to open their packages..My heart and prayers go out to her and I hope she is doing OK... emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I'm with you Doris,

I certainly do have a lot of other projects to work on. Sometimes Life just seems to take over on us. I have often said (what I could do with just a few more hours each day). When the packages do get here, we will enjoy them just as much.
Everyone please just have a little more patience.

Dear Alice,

This is my first swap and I am not worried at all!!! We all have times in our lives when circumstances are out of our control. We all have challenges that cause things to not go as we had planned.
You do what you need to do to take care of your family and yourself. I have plenty on other fabrics and UFO's that I can work on. My package will be a pleasant surprise when it arrives.

Blessings,

HI UPTOWNCONNIE.I'm not trying to be harsh, a lot of girls here are upset as well.I realize people have hard times(emotionally or otherwise) I'm just saying...I just found out that my hubby has a very rare disease, I'm not sure if he'll be alive (SERIOUSLY) next month. So as you can see why I might understand heath, with our families.....It's really scarey !! Maybe ALICE could have re-assigned her commitments to someone else....I don't know.....

SebashtiansMom--if you tell me how much you need, I will pay for your priority mail. Alice is going through something that is causing her much pain, and I know she is already feeling bad that the packages are late...send me your address via my Sparks Mail account and I will send you a check.

Alice--THANKS for all you have done and we appreciate what you have done. Please take it easy and just concentrate on your family right now. I am praying for you and yours!!

HI. I have to say,I too, am disappointed about the long wait for our fabrics....I think it should have had a SHIP OUT deadline, and the ones who didn't make it could have let Alice know. Then the rest of us could play...I was entered in the last swap, and it DID go nicely.I have already spent extra money with priority and of course fabric price, if you would, you could just refund my money....Not sure of what to think.

I spoke with a friend of Alice just now and she's asked me to post the following for her.

The packages were sent out Friday from North Plains Oregon. Their post office is a small one, not open on Saturdays. She assured me that the packages are en route. Alice continues to stay at the hospital with her MIL and does not have computer access at this time. Thank you.

Hello Alice, hope everything is going better for you, when you become the care giver of older adults in the family, your life is not your own. I enjoy these swaps and have always gotten my packages, sometimes late because people send them in to the person doing the organizing late, sometimes because of things you have no control over, but they eventually get to us...Take Care and will wait for the fabric to arrive....

good morning alice,

I also hope all is well with you and thank you for all the time and effort you have put in on this swap.
I feel really bad that you have encountered the problems that you have. I didn't realize that the postage was going up. Again thank you

I totally understand the trouble with the extra postage and hope we can pay you back, Alice! I was just worried that my package had gotten lost!!! (I've been gone most of the last two weeks....)

Take care and whenever the package gets here, I am fine with it!

I keep checking the mail everyday thinking it will be in the mailbox. So far nothing. I live pretty close so it should not take very long to get here. I don't think I will be doing another swap if they are going to be like this one.

Yes, Isew4uandme but it has to be mailed to us before it can arrive priority...we've been told they were mailed twice already. I'm having a hard time keeping track of the story. I asked Alice when they were mailed and she did not respond.

Alice, could you please send me an email with the tracking info for my package? I got one for sending my packages Priority mail to you, so I'm assuming they gave you one too, as I posted it return Priority mail. The package should have gotten here by now. Something is definitely wrong.

HI EVERYONE !! I too, save my scraps, most ALL OF THEM ! The tiny ones will be for paper-piecing.I drive hubby crazy, but I'll tell ya,I've used tons of my stash for other quilts. SOOO I certainly think that everybody should keep it all !! emoticon I started 2 wall -hangings SAT. (has like a scene-clouds and the ground) then, I made yo-yo's that I'm making flowers. It's really cute so far. The reason for 2 is because I had enough left to make my sister one. I often buy a little more than I need, works out pretty good sometimes....My sisters' b.day is June 8th. Gotta get it finished and get it in the mail ... And would you beleive, after I planned MY wall-hanging ? I went on-line looking at patterns, and seen that they'd already MADE a pattern ??? CRAZY huh ? emoticon

Have to admit, I'm getting a little anxious about this last swap..has been over a month..but then again, I know how life is...think about doing something, get sidetracked and the next thing you know, a week then 2 weeks then a months has gone by..where not really sure but time sure has a way of getting away from us. Hey wait, I think that's a sign of old age...guess if shoe fits (and it does!) I'll have to wear it. I just found a couple pieces of what I sent for the last swap so I thought I would check in on the progress of this swap. I too am ready for the next one...never can have too much material/stash as far as I'm concerned and I really love seeing what other people pick to go along with the theme. Hope everyone has a great day. Am off to finish house cleaning before company gets here later today :) Happy stitching

No fun mail here today! I will check at the end of this week again ... I save my scraps also, but not the very little ones, I save them for my applique and also one day I am going to make a scrappy quilt! I wish my mind would stop with all of the projects it comes up with..I am overloaded right now..So I can wait for the mail because I have alot to work on and my mind will come up with another project when they come in! emoticon emoticon

Well, now I save every last bit but wish someone would have given me the heads up early on...but that's ok, makes me aware of it when I'm teaching the little ones and I always take a moment to show them my scraps neatly divided for a someday quilt or two. They can't believe how small some of the pieces are! Next, I'll have to learn applique to put some of the tiniest pieces to work on the ever growing to do list. Any fun mail yet?

I so agree. I never throw any material away.
Even little scraps - I've used them for applicque, so you never know.
Does anyone know what material will be used for swap #16.

Never throw any fabric away! LOL! Scrap quilts are great! When I was young and was first quilting, I'd use old blankets for the batting and my children's old clothes to make quilts! I guess you do what you have to do.

GOOD on you, steffie for saving your trim and smaller pieces from the get go. I cringe when I think of all the fabric I wasted before I got into quilting!! It shouldn't be long for #16 stuff to be up and running.

Steffie, whenever Kelley is ready, she will post the info about the next swap. That's great that you already have fabric enough for a swap. I never have enough to send all the same for everyone so I always have to shop. Any excuse is a good excuse, right?

Can someone tell me when Swap #16 is? I like to get join in. I only have what is remaining from my first quilt, but I checked today and I think there will be enough to start. I have a lot of scraps left over from the quilt, and their already cut into squares or strips. I will also be buying more material for quilting.

Awww Alice, it's ok :) You really did not need to do anything to make up for anything! (does that make sense?) But you know what I mean. Life happens to us all. I know we will all be thrilled when the packages arrive and part of that thrill is not knowing when it will arrive!

Ok, I need to get off here and get more tea...my brain is not awake yet..

Not to worry ladies,
They are on their way. I added a little surprise to each package and added extra postage per the post office weigh-in when I mailed them. Some I take it, were right on the borderline for the next rate up and came back due to difference in the scales. I'm sorry - I was trying to do a little something extra because you all had to wait and then I messed it up worse!

Oh Alice I am sorry to hear about your family member in the hospital. I am glad that all is working out and that the problem was found and resolved....My Greatgrandma wasn't so lucky years ago with the same issue but then again she was 92, who's to say that something else wasn't happening in there at the same time....BODIES...sometimes you can't live within them....lol...Good luck to you and all.

I am pretty new here to but I will try to explain everything.

You can't join swap 15 but swap 16 should be getting started soon if it hasn't already. The swap works this way. You sign up for the swap. Some are for charms, some are for noodles (2 1/2 or 5 inches by the width of the fabric) or both. The person running the swap decides which basically. At the end of the sign up for the swap, the person running it will send and email to everyone that signed up with where to send the fabrics. They need to be washed, ironed, and cut to size. You will need to include your name, address, and user name in the envelope when you send it in. The person running it will separate the fabrics and then mail them out to the participants. You need to include an envelope that has return postage along with your name and address already on it.

Kind of sounds complicated but it's not really. And they are a lot of fun.

Hi everyone. I'm Stephanie from Florida and I just started quilting. Could someone explain to me how the swapping works, also there are so many terms that different people are using that I don't understand. What does noodle mean? Is that a type of quilt? I'd like to sign up, but I think I better wait until I'm more knowledgeable about quilting.
