For walking and running... I definitely prefer the Forerunner, even though it's an old one. Since it's on my arm, I have better access to the control buttons.
But I bike a lot, my DH bought me the Edge which mounts directly on my bike. I love that too, but if I'm walking, I have to carry it in a fanny pack or pocket as it doesn't have a strap.
They both have excellent ease of use...
My Forerunner has a shorter time before it needs to be recharged. When I walked our local marathon, the battery was dead after about 6 hours. That's because it's so old though... about 5-7 years. The new ones stay charged much longer.

My Polar died too, and that's when I changed to Garmin. Now I have two... one for biking, and the other I can wear on my arm. They both use the same software on my computer, which is handy and I especially like seeing where I mountain biked or hiked off road on the Google maps.
The only "bad" thing about the Garmin is that they don't work well in buildings shielded by a lot of steel... like our gym... just to let you know if you want to use it for classes in the gym.
