Event or Party Stategy....

(1) I will cut down on calories for other meals that day (and maybe the next day); (2) I try to work in a little more exercise around that day; (3) I eat a healthy snack and/or a piece of fruit and drink a glass of water before going; (4)I prepare and take a dish that is healthy; (5) If it's available, I use a small plate, rather than a dinner plate; (6) I fill my plate 3/4 full with veggies, fruit and the healthy dish I brought; (7) I put on my plate only a bite or two of other dishes--especially when someone has urged me to try their dish; (8) I avoid any dishes with gravy, cream sauces, cheese, mayonnaise, etc. (9) I then move away from the food--to the other side of the room so I won't be tempted to nibble and graze while engaged in conversations; and (9) I usually do eat some dessert, but only 1 or 2 bites of 2 or 3 of them. If I have an alcoholic drink, I limit it to one and then drink water with a squeeze of lemon or lime.

This plan has helped me maintain my weight loss for many years now, so I'm sticking with it. As a side note, I would much rather go to a pot luck or buffet meal than a sit-down meal--at least then I have much better choices about what and how much I put on my plate!

The best 3 rules for such a situation: MODERATION, MODERATION and MODERATION!
