Journey take one with us in writing and learn what you want to know.

Always put down in writing or computer any thoughts. They come handy when you want to use them.

As for losing weight, eat smaller meals in smaller plates. Use 1/4 to 1/2 c for veggies and less than a deck of cards for food. Watch the sweets and sugars as they add the lbs.

Tips for Writing welcomes new members. We have changed our logo so people will know we are not only a writing board, but a weight loss one too.

Hello Abby ~

Thank you for sharing! That's a great idea to make sure to get your exercise in before writing!!

Thanks for the idea about the stand up desk for writing! Some co-workers have them and I kid them about being on a Star Trek mission!

Before I write I do my bike and weights. Then I will sit and write. I have written many health articles for newspapers and magazines so I am forever into what is good for you and what is not. But just sitting down writing does not do the trick. I take a bottle of water near my desk and drink it, from time to time, so I do not want to get up and get something. if not water coffee or tea, but be careful not to spill it.

I am glad you came on and posted. If you can think of any other topics you like to write about go ahead and add them.

Hi Journey. That is a cute picture of a bird on your profile.

Honestly, I would say writing isn't one of the things that has helped me lose weight in general. As Abby mentioned, it tends to be a sedentary activity. During November, back when I wrote 165000 words a couple of years ago, that meant I was at the computer for hours every day in order to write the 5000 words that I averaged a day. Doing things at the computer, like writing, can bring up challenges for weight loss. On my days off when I'm at home where all my food is and I'm sitting at the computer, that's when it's harder for me to stay in my calorie range for the day. And the nutrition is a big component to weight management.

On the other hand, I also have a job that doesn't include sitting at all. Other than the one break I do take on longer shifts, my required lunch break, I am on my feet all shift. Having switched to watching my overall calories while getting enough macronutrients is what has helped the most weight loss wise, and exercise has many benefits beyond the scale.

However, my woefully ignored blog that is on my to do list is called Fiction and Fitness. I've been trying to use motivation from writing to help with my fitness as well. I am not much of a runner but decided to train for runs like 5k and 10k. I figure that with all of the stuff I put my novel characters through, like the fantasy where they have to walk and run long distances because they don't have other transportation a good part of the time, then I might as well do some moving too. I also want to learn hand to hand combat and some sword play in order to be able to write some of the action scenes better. Granted I can't do magic while fighting but I can still get a more in depth point of view feel for some of the actions if I learn it myself.

Plus, you can come up with some fun ideas while out exercising.

Well, writing itself doesn't help me lose weight - it's such a sedentary activity!

BUT

Before I start writing, I exercise. As in, I'm not allowed to write until I've walked the dog. Plus I have my laptop on a standing desk, so I can stand up when I write. (I think I got one for, like, $20 on Amazon.)

Hello:

I love to write ~ Anything from journaling to poetry to starting a book!

It has helped me work through many different life issues and emotions. But I don't know how to use it to help me lose weight.

How does your writing help in your weight loss journey? When do you write? About what?

Thank you for your help!
