Sixteen: rewrite! Take your half baked ideas and hold on to them. Tomorrow you might have the other part of that thought, and it will be a good blog.

Fifteen: be patient. It takes people a while to find you, and fit you into their reading schedule. My first few blogs had no responses. Now I have between 15-30 comments every day. It did not happen overnight, but my blog slowly grew as I learned how to write, and as people trusted me to say something encouraging every day.

Eleven:Preserve the past.
A great way to blog is to tell the story of your life, your family and your friends. There are some stories worth repeating. Read about my grandma who voted in town elections before women had the national right to vote.
I love this story, and I want my grandkids to know about it.
What's your story?

Ten: use your writing to process change. Do you see change coming in your life? If you write about it, the change will be much easier. Writing can be a therapy.

Nine: use the inspiration of others.
Sometimes I will use a phrase of another (giving them credit) to start my daily write.
It gets me moving, and I end up writing some inspiring prose this way.

Eight: Writing can help you when it is time to speak.
I find that if I take the time to write down my thoughts before an interview or important conversation, I remember what I need to say.
Use your blog as a place to write down important thoughts.

Good you are not afraid to speak in front of people, some are.

I was at the sr.center and a nurse was talking about cholesterol. Well, she was not going a good job and I was correcting her. She asked me to take over and I did. She was surprised at how much I knew about the subject.

If you know your subject you are able to either write or speak about it with no problem.

Seven: Save the good ones!
Not every post is worth saving. By posting daily, you can miss the good ones because there are so many mediocre ones. Set aside a file for the posts that you love, and also one for the posts that other people will love. Sometimes I am surprised by the very good reactions on posts that I did not feel especially inspired to write. Other times, there is a very low reaction on posts that I loved.
Yesterday I posted “Sticking Together”. This was a blog that I wrote several years ago, and I bring it out, brush it off, and repost it each winter.
There are some blogs that I have written on talks that I give: Aware of the Bear, Give a Hoot About Owls and the AMC Jeopardy game. I am a speaker for the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC), and often other groups will ask me to come and speak. By having something already written up, it is easier to give a quick summary about the presentation.

Sixth: Write the repeatable!
Remember that you do not know where your blog will end up. Words and photos on the internet can go to many different and unexpected places.
1. Keep confidential information excluded. Are you a professional who works with people? Keep the dirty details excluded from your blog. I know of a teacher who complained about a student in a blog. Her boss read the blog, and she lost her job.
2. Keep private details of your life private. I know a woman whose husband was very sick. She posted that she needed to put him in a nursing home while she went away to a conference. The husband’s friends were very angry with her. She wished that she had not made that private information so public.
3. If you need to ask a question of a personal nature, ask it in a general way. When I needed information and input about a family close to me who have problems with their dogs, I asked it in a way that kept the identity of the people secret. No one needs to know exactly who the person is.
Think twice before you share information. Be kind, and thoughtful. Be sure to only print things that you would want others to say about you.

Fifth: Write what you need to hear. In the third person for writing, encourage yourself. Tell yourself what YOU need to hear. There are times when you must be your best friend, and give the encouragement that you wish that someone else would give you. Remember to give praise and criticism together.
I often think of my messages to me as bologna sandwiches:
• Start with praise. Look what wonderful things you have accomplished in the past! You are amazing, strong and good. Look at how far you have come in your life!
• Add in the meat of the message. You need to leave the chocolates alone. Take one, and then walk away from the chocolate!
• End on a positive note. I know that you can do it! You have done it before. You are stronger than the pull of the chocolate. Don’t give up!

Microsoft Word....Sorry about losing your home to fire. When I was young, my mom told me our house was on fire and some of the furniture you could tell fire stained it. I guess I was too little. I always fear it and gas leaking as we had 3 gas leaks as gas company only fixes leaks and doesn't go and fix pipe lines because they are old, so you take chances with gas. That is why I don't have gas heat. Bad enough with gas store, dryer, and water heater.

Fourth part of blogging:
Write about your favorite things. Write about the little things in life that make you happy and have meaning. After I lost my home to a house fire, I sat down and thought “What will I miss most about my home?” It was sitting at the kitchen table, and looking out the window at the garden. When it was time to rebuild, I made that area of the house even more beautiful than it was before.
Today when you take time to write, think about these words from the Sound of Music:
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woollen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things
Cream colored ponies and crisp apple strudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things.
Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things
When the dog bites, when the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad.

I find that is a good idea. Another is to put it on MW and do it and save it. Then you just have to insert the company name and send.

Third: Find purpose.
Blog about your victories or setbacks with your food consumption or your exercise. Write about your health concerns, but always leave people (and yourself) with hope.

I have written great notes to Wal*Mart, Olive Garden and other places first as a blog, then as a letter. Some have been positive, and some have been complaints. It helps me to figure out why I am happy or frustrated when I blog. This allows me a little time to vent before sending the letter to it's intended source.

Reminds me that i need to get some blog posts done. I don't blog every day, not even close, except for 1 month in the year (april blog challenge) as after years there is no way I could keep up with a daily and the readers don't catch it often enough to warrant such. I do find that if I go look and comment on other blogs, it helps because it's a community in many ways.

Second,write something every day.
Try to find a topic that interests you. Write a paragraph or a poem about it. Add a photo related to the topic. Always end on a positive note. No one wants to regularly hear bad news.
After a month of writing, look back, and see what topics interested people the most. Read the featured blogs to find out how others create a popular blog.
The more that you write blogs and read the blogs of others, the better you will get at it, and people will start looking for your blogs because they like what you have to say.
