They are indeed different as I've attempted to write scripts before back when they had Script Frenzy in April and could never get the 100 pages that were part of the challenge. Even though I write a lot of dialogue in my first drafts, just doing the formatting and getting the whole story down in stage/script form is challenging.

I think it has to do in part with the formatting but also the different style. Even if you don't describe too much in a fiction story, the process of writing for a book and for a play/movie just isn't the same.
