(this may have been mentioned earlier) I was told at a short story conference that editors/publishers can title a book strictly for marketing. Another reason, if the author's title is too abstract.

I remember reading TGOW but I don't remember anything that would have clued me in about the title. I remember Atticus talking to Scout about how you should never kill a mockingbird and the south lamenting how its culture was gone with the wind.

If you publish with a house (instead of self-publish), you may not get to keep your title. I was lucky because Who Wants to Marry a Cowboy? is very catchy. :)

Indeed, I try to have titles relate to something in the story.

The Grapes of Wrath was a book first, actually, by John Steinbeck. It's set during the Great Depression.

Camey, I think what you said is often true. It's hard to understand why some titles are chosen.
I just thought of "The Grapes of Wrath". I know I've seen the movie but I don't remember it. I think that title has to do with the movie, if I'm not mistaken.

I have a title for the writing I'm leaving for our kids. I've thought of several but there are a couple of words I use in the story so that will probably be the one. If this story ever gets into a book, I'll be sure to let you know the title. I don't think it will but I don't know what the future holds. There's only One who does!! Hugs, Darlene

How do you go about picking a title for your story? When reading a book, yu notice the title is only used once. I read Till the end of time and it was used once in the story. A title is usually what the story is about or what someone said in the story. Try thinking of the story and find what is important in it and then name your title.

I like the second one. The first one is nice but generic. The second one has personality.

BUT

It might be too hard for someone to spell, therefore making it hard to find your blog. Keep throwing out titles and we'll brainstorm with you. :)

I also like the first one.

I usually have a working title, just for saving, that, more often than not, becomes the title.

The sun never sets on those who ride into it.

I think I like the first one (It's a Matter of Perspective) as the title. But I'm also unfamiliar with the term Monadnock, so had to look it up.

Titles in general are hard to come up with, I know I struggle with them between all the scenes, short stories and novels. The story I'm sending out right now is called "Infected" and it fits the story but now, thinking on it... Might look odd in an inbox to have a file attached that is called "infected". lol But they ask for the story attached, so that is what I did.

What should I call this blog?
