I haven't seen that but I also haven't read a book in months. I should probably make it a goal for February to read one book. Some people like repetition and reminders. I've never been a fan of repetition in writing of any type, even poetry can get a little on my nerves when it's repetitive, but that's just personal preference.

Update time for month and year.

January Goals:
1. Write 100+ words a day on YA novel. - Many days but missed a few.
2. Drink around 80 oz of water a day. - Had some misses but did well most of the month.
3. Get caught up on contest and things ready to get back in action. - Ish. Still need to do reviews and it's back in action but I have no judges.
4. Track food on a consistent basis and use food scale more often. - Need to do better on this one.
5. Keep lifting on PHUL and jog 1-2 times a week (+ add one new lift for obstacle prep). - Easy, yep.
6. Get new shoes for running and gym. - Done earlier in the month.
7. Instagram challenge (pictures and hashtags) - Finished with pictures done every day.
8. Post 4 blog entries, at least one in DE and 2 in F&F. - 2 of the 4 posted at least
9. Send in 5 job applications (not retail). - none, 5 was a little ambitious.

Year Goals:
Fitness
Squat 1.5x body weight - working my way up. The working set is 185 and at current weight I would need around 202.5 to reach goal.
Deadlift 2x body weight - 230 so far with straps, need to hit around 270 to reach goal but if weight goes lower that may end up being 260 instead.
Bench 125 - Accomplished already. It was a barely qualifies so will get better at it over the next few months. Next goal is either 135 or bodyweight, whichever happens first (if I lose a little weight then bw, or they would be the same time at current weight)
Try new things (yoga class, barre, kayak, *see list for details*) - So far so good. January I did a couple different lifts and machines. Feb 1 was yoga.
Run in a half-marathon. - haven't signed up yet as the one I would like to do isn't open yet for registration.
Continue lifting weights cause it's awesome - Easy peasy.

Writing
Blog every month at least twice - January success as I posted 2 blog entries.
Finish North West and Boys Read Romance - Working on NW, so making progress.
Submit novel query to agents - not yet
Either edit a novel or start Aeon Fading rewrite - not yet
No new novels until November - so far so good though have a few ideas...

Life, etc.
Monthly goals (try to gear some to help with year goals) - work in progress, january done
Take one day off work for rest and me focused stuff. - Kinda sorta, need to work on that some. Days off are changing to Tuesday and Wednesday.
Get out of comfort zone (fitness and more) - Yep.
Work on career either in company or elsewhere. - not yet
Try to make payment on a student loan (pay off small one, in particular) - Need to set up on other computer cause the blocker and the one smaller one's site don't get along on this one.
Enjoy life - work in progress

I just finished reading Wyoming Rugged by Diane Palmer. I noticed she repeated sentences several times in the story. It was something the man had said to the girl about another girl.
Then it was something he said to her. As I was reading I noticed it was repeated as to remind the person that he said it. Or to remind her he said it to her. It got kind of boring.
Have you seen this before?

That is a lot for a year with all you have to do besides that.

I have written articles and short pieces and sent them out, but nothing yet. It is the waiting that gets ya, so I just forget about it, once sent.

Still working on my novels, as have several in progress. Thinking of adding some together.

I also made some goals for January, so should post those and do a little bit on the progress I've made so far.

1. Write 100+ words a day on YA novel.
2. Drink around 80 oz of water a day.
3. Get caught up on contest and things ready to get back in action.
4. Track food on a consistent basis and use food scale more often.
5. Keep lifting on PHUL and jog 1-2 times a week (+ add one new lift for obstacle prep).
6. Get new shoes for running and gym.
7. Instagram challenge (pictures and hashtags)
8. Post 4 blog entries, at least one in DE and 2 in F&F.
9. Send in 5 job applications (not retail).

1. I've missed a day but other than that, I've been writing. Some days it's more than 200 and a couple it's barely over 100, but making very slow progress.
2. Doing well though haven't quite gotten 80 every single day.
3. Almost there. Need to do 2 round for the prizes then some reviewing.Have reopened contest and emailed judges to get rounds handled.
4. Doing better though still need to work on this.
5. Easy one, so far so good.
6. Success. I have running shoes and lifting shoes now.
7. Posted today's pic and am on track with the challenge.
8. 2 up so far. One in F&F and other in DE.
9. No progress made here yet, so need to get to work on that.

Been a busy 13 days so far and more to come.

We think we have a lot of time but if you look at the calendar we are already half way through the first week in Jan. Time seems to go too fast and so much has to be done that sometimes it gets away from us.

Being retired you think you have more time but you really don't. I could do more when I was working than I can do now. With you, you have work, house, gym, writing, so much on your plate. But I know you will get through it. Good luck with all of it.

I changed the title so that it doesn't have the specific year on it so that it doesn't need changed each time. Since I posted goals in a group on myfitnesspal then I might as well post them here and also post which novels I should focus on so I have something to refer to in hopes of not forgetting.

Fitness
Squat 1.5x body weight
Deadlift 2x body weight
Bench 125
Try new things (yoga class, barre, kayak, *see list for details*)
Run in a half-marathon.
Continue lifting weights cause it's awesome

Writing
Blog every month at least twice
Finish North West and Boys Read Romance
Submit novel query to agents
Either edit a novel or start Aeon Fading rewrite
No new novels until November

Life, etc.
Monthly goals (try to gear some to help with year goals)
Take one day off work for rest and me focused stuff.
Get out of comfort zone (fitness and more)
Work on career either in company or elsewhere.
Try to make payment on a student loan (pay off small one, in particular)
Enjoy life

The main book focus for end of winter, beginning of spring is YA. I hope to get North West done in the next few months, then focus on the others I have started that are in the same genre. I do need to edit some too, which is not a YA but a novel I really like. Plus submitting to agents. So there is a lot to do, as usual. 2015 was great for getting active and such, now to also bring back the writing.

What I have to look back on is double hernia operation, breast cancer, loss of friends.

First Communions and Confirmations, birthday parties, family party, and holiday gathering.

Changing of doctor because they no longer take Humana, my insurance.

But I did send out non fiction articles and my novel to different publishers. Some are starting to come in. Rejections don't bother me anymore. Writing for me now is a hobby. But would be nice to have another book out.

I am hoping, as I push forward to 83, the aches and pains will be less and that I can still act like a young chicken.

Hard to believe another year is over. Not sure if I'll do an update on this one for 2016, though I will have some goals/plans for the year. but here is an update on how 2015 ended with the goals I"d made a long time ago.

Editing - Haven't edited in months. Need to figure out exactly which one to do and what needs done next.

Write 2 novels and start 1 more - Ended up starting North West for NaNoWriMo. Did more starting and random bits in 2015 than finishing but that means the next few months can be spent finishing novels I have started. I'm liking the contemporary YA ones in particular right now.

Blog - Nope. But I have plans. And I did post a couple of times at least on one, so better than nothing.

Submit to Agent - Yeah, I didn't submit but I have two versions of a query that need just a minor tweak and a list of potential agents to pick the first batch from. Just need to make a couple of decision and submit when they are open for query.

No income increases or second jobs found but gaining a little more responsibility at work. Am unofficial head of a department, so there is that. Will be applying for other jobs in 2016 with different focuses in mind that use my degree more.

Non-Writing
Complete fitness goals from different posts and sites. - Yep. Some hits and misses depending on the month but did pretty well overall.

Get ready for and enjoy stepsister's wedding (November) - It was great. I so needed a vacation and plan to take a vacation somehow in 2016 to see at least one family member.

It was a long year and yet went by so fast. A lot happened with the weight loss, weight lifting, jogging and working so much. I definitely consider myself blessed and hope to strive for even more in 2016.

Do you have a library near you? They have the Writer's Market book in the reference dept.
I used to go on my library web site and get some information, maybe you can try that on yours.

Thanks Camey but I'm not looking for freelance work or to go indie publishing route at this time. I was looking for agents to sent novel queries too but the query tracker site is a good one that Abby posted.

And I don't have a subscription to anything but I have followed some of the agents in social media and done some research. I have a list of at least 10 so far. Just need to decide which ones to sent the first batch to in order to see how the query holds over and if any request to read more.

Yeah. That is the non-holiday part of why many agents just close by the end of November.

Now to pick who to send to first. hmmm

Thanks for the reminder Abby. *signs up*

Almost end of September. I forgot my year goals already, lol, but we'll check and see if any progress is made.

Editing - very slow. I am planning to use a day off to do the final big edits so I can submit TT by end of month. Now if I would just not get called in on my day off. I can do little edits on work days but I want to do just a big push where I concentrate on just the story for hours, which helps to have nothing else going that day in order to accomplish that focus. Maybe this next week as I am scheduled to have tuesday and wednesday off.

Write 2 novels and start 1 more
Snow is still same place as it was a couple of months ago. I have gotten up to chapter 6 on Boys Read Romance though. Started new ones is done and I'll have Team written in November for NaNoWriMo.

Blog - Not even close. Need to resurrect my poor, neglected blogs and do posts ahead of time.

Submit to Agent - July fail but maybe by October. I need to before November as many close around that time for holidays then open in January or February.

No income increase but gaining a little more responsibility at work.

Non-Writing
Complete fitness goals from different posts and sites. - definitely accomplished and still making new ones.

Get ready for and enjoy stepsister's wedding (November) - I have a dress picked out. Need to get shoes and something warm for over it since it's cold in November in Colorado. I so need a vacation and can't wait to see my family.

Thanks.

I've had critiques on a previous version of the query letter but don't have much of a group anymore. I had a couple beta readers look over the novel. Struggling to edit based on some of the feedback provided. Hard part with query is it's not easy to tell what the agents will like as I've seen a fair number of successful letters posted and half the time I'm surprised that it worked for some of them. I need to spend some time researching agents again too and decide who I want to send first so I can do research on them to be better prepared.

I started on a new story. Reason why, it was in my head and wanted to get it down on paper.
Sometimes, when ideas come I don't want to lose them. Finished the article on dogs I was working on and waiting for notification from a dog magazine.

Got my first reject from a publisher, who said I sent it to him back in 20ll and they had rejected it then. Don't remember, so need to keep list of who I sent, even tho it was 20ll.
Still waiting on 3 more to come in.

We are in the middle of the year so I should post a little edit and what books I'm focusing on over summer/beginning of fall.

Year goals and current status:

Edit 3 novels (TT, HD and at least SG if not one more.) - Still working on TT, I might finish one edit and start a second but 3 in a year is unlikely.

Write 2 novels and start 1 more. - I'm still working on Snow, have BRR to start and still have NaNoWriMo, so might be possible.

Blog 3 times per month - Fail for a few months so far. Working on schedule for one and hope to make this more in the next 6 months.

Submit to Agent by July - Not quite but I'm trying to get things together to send queries in near future.

Find second income, perhaps within blogs and creating some writing/fitness merchandise. - Not making much progress, but I moved so my income stretches a little further now that rent is lower.

Complete fitness goals from different posts and sites. Some success and some struggles but overall doing well. Almost done with month 10 on my goal of being active for a year. Just have July and August left.

Get ready for and enjoy stepsister's wedding (November) - Losing weight and such, but not much else to do quite yet. Won't pick out a dress until September or October. Looking forward to the week from work and getting to see family.

For summer, I am focusing on YA. So the YA edit (TT), YA novel writing (Snow, BRR and whatever I pick next from the hat) and such. Hope to get some rough drafts done during this time. Just need to set aside writing time among my work and gym/jogging hours.

Also, keeping up with my contests and other tasks as a moderator on the writing site is something I need to work on, while still writing and such. Always something to do.

I have an accountant and he is good so he takes care of everything. I started to list medical, dental, charity, etc. for the income tax. It is a start. Have to wait for stuff to come in too. Have to call church for a list of donations.

Then started the file, but only got about 3 folders done before the shredder filled. Hate this job every year.

When I was writing and sending out to publishers and also doing non fiction, the accountant told me, at that time, not sure what it is now, I could deduct up to 400 of my rejection slips, books I got, etc. After that I had to pay. So when you do check in to it and see how much you are allowed free.

That is kinda funny.

I don't worry about taxes till after February starts but mine are still easy for the most part. If I self-publish at some point, then it might start getting trickier but for now it's mostly my one job stuff and that is it.

I have a few books picked out to work on, now to get down to business and get these 2015 goals accomplished.

A funny thing just happened. I was just thinking of you and how you were doing when your appeared.

I am hoping to hear some news on the novels I sent out. I have had several ideas for another and still have a few I started but didn't get back to. The hand and finger is better and only hurts when the weather is cold, so hoping I can get in some writing in the afternoons.

I do need to start that darn income tax again and I want to go through some writing books I don't want and take to the sr. center as they have some writers there.

Time to check and see how I've done for 2014 since I often forget my goals part way through the year. And it's almost 2015 already.

2014 Goals
Here are my goals for 2014 and a few ones for January in particular, as I posted on my Fiction and Fitness blog.

2014 Goals
Writing:
Finish final TT Edit.
Edit SG.
Finish first draft of 2 YA Novels.
Submit more short fiction to markets. (this breaks a goal making rule, but I am not specific for my year goal because each month I plan to make a specific goal for this item)
Read 15 books
Blog once a week minimum, taking all blogs into consideration.

Fitness:
Change diet over from fast and cheap, to vegetables and home cooked but cheap.
Do a physical activity for 30 minutes 3 days a week, not counting work.
Lose 25 lbs. (Current weight is 217).

End of 2014:
Didn't finish TT final draft. One edit done, just the final minor changes left to go.
Haven't started SG edit yet.
Did finish the drafts for Aeon Fading and Lighting the Wall, so that goal was accomplished as both of those are YA.
I did indeed submit a fair amount of short fiction, so success there.
Read 19 books, most of which were read by end of April.
Did not come close to blogging every week.

Fitness -
Changed diet to much healthier after August and eat more veggies though still have candy and such sometimes.
Physical activity didn't happen till september but I now go to gym 3+ times a week and will do more cardio outside on top of that once it's warmer.
I've actually lost more than 30 if using the beginning of year weight. I'm 181.5 at the moment, up a smidgen from the past few days (mostly due to high sodium intake) but from 217 that's around 36 lbs lost. Not bad.

Didn't do everything but I did quite a lot and some things that weren't on the list. Overall, a pretty good year and 2015 is promising to be bigger.

I also check on line to make sure they are still operating and even call if a number is available.
I found some on line and put the in favorite and will check then later. They usually want 3 chapters and query. Some don't want a wrap up a query. Some want the whole ms. I want to be sure they are traditional and not e books or web sites. I want a book I can hold in my hand and sell in the stores. Some said they want you to promote the book on sites and book signings. I don't mind the book signings but I don;t like facebook or Twitter as they have been hacked.

Waiting for Comcast to come with new wireless modem as they are changing over. I can get it by blocking out wireless and just the reg way. I have desktop and can't be moving that big thing around so wireless does me no good. Wireless I understand hackers can get in quicker.

Yeah, I've seen the publisher book but I do most of my searching online. That seems to be more up to speed with who is editing where and which places are currently open. The problem with the physical book is it takes a while to get published and things can chance pretty quick in the industry. I'd at least double check online, even if using the book. I hope to send to agents in October though, so we'll see what I can find.

I have a book with all the publishers for everything. I just have to find the time to look at it.
I have been so busy with parties that came up, doc apts, grocery shopping, washing etc. You know the drill. As soon as I get a free moment I am going to look at it.

Ah. Most of the ones I'm sending are fiction story publishers. And I use a submission tracking site, so I see activity from other writers and it shows the average response times for the places, along with having links to the locations web page and guidelines. It's very handy.

When I started it was the newspaper and I got 25.00 an article. Then went to magazine and got l50 for 3 pages. Got to get your feet on the ground first. I wish you luck. Didn't get a chance to look for publishers today. I notice some sites you have to check as they are no longer there even thought they say they are. I had sent out a story and never heard from them so I called the person at the bottom of the site and she told me the site closed. I have no idea where my story went so becareful.

Yeah, when I was writing the email address, I put . instead of - so that was a my bad.

These are fiction magazines and e-zines, so they are specific to the genres they publish. Right now I'm mostly sending to places that pay what is considered a pro rate by the science fiction and fantasy writers organization. I may send a few to semi-pro paying places soon though.

Ah, the joy of waiting.

I have two sent out today. One was a story I thought was out but discovered I'd had the email address wrong, so it was waiting in no man's land. So, I sent the story today to the actual place and now am waiting. Bit discouraging when it gets your hopes up only to find out it was an error on your part. Oh well. I will probably hear back within the next 30 days. The other one I could hear back in the next 5 days or less. I've sent two stories before to them, so have a bit more experience with their short expected wait time.

Thanks. Good luck to you.

My September/October goals are:
Edit YA novel.
Finish YA first draft.
World Build for Epic Fantasy.
Organize stuff in apartment.

And I'll probably write a couple short stories in there too. There is one contest in September I might write a new short story for and use it as a chance to practice showing emotion as it's a prompt about first love as a teen. But mostly I'll work and do the stuff on my goals list.

Well, it was a decent summer writing wise, over all. I didn't complete all my goals, per se, but I did make a decent amount of progress.

Edit TT - I just have the final edit to do. Finished the one edit and have notes done, so can get to work on the last of the little things to change. Want to get the query submitted before November cause most agencies shut doors around the holidays and to avoid any post NaNo rushed submissions.

Write Novel - I managed to write 35,000 words in August and over 10,000 in July. The novel itself is at 75,000 words so far in the first draft and nearing the end. I just have to write the final parts and it will be done.

Clean House - Check! Well, Mom still cleaned while she was here, but I did do a lot of cleaning before then so it was at least somewhat decent for her 5 day visit.

I also wrote a couple short stories, sent out some stories and received a few rejections and have a few stories out, one of which that has exceeded the usual response time. So, things are looking good and I hope progress continues into Fall.

Month is almost over.

I sent out 4 stories to places 2 days ago. Already have 2 rejections cause they were places that always respond quick to short stories and flash fiction. So, I have 5 out in total right now.

Novel still in progress.
Novelette almost submittable for WDC thing.
Blogs... need work.

But in later on, in September I will be getting 2 days off a week again, instead of just 1. So, that should help.

Now to ponder Fall goals.

The novel is fun too. So, neh.

Really, I am near the end of the summer novel first draft. I just need a time where I can just push through the hard part where all the crap hits the ceiling fan. It's a challenge finding the right block of time to just get that down. But I will. Not giving up, just minor distraction.

And the novel final edit will happen. I need to get that submittable before nano ends because not many agents take submissions around the winter holidays.

Novelettes are fun. A group of us are trying to get stories done for the contest, which will be nice cause I entered last time and there were only two stories submitted. I won but it's not much of a win when it's just against one other story.

I'm usually like, day off is good for editing, then on my day off cause it's only 1 a week I remember all the crap I need to do around the house and such, plus sleep. mmm sleep....

So far, not much luck on my August goals. I have written a little bit in LtW but am not done as I'm still at the climax of the story. Need to get the bad part done and the aftermath. But getting closer with each step.

I haven't worked on the edit though. I got distracted by a challenge to write a novelette, so I'm working on that as it's due the 23rd.

July went pretty well. I got over 35,000 words written in the YA novel, which brings the novel up to over 68,000 words. It's not done and I'm hoping the first draft will be finished within 100,000 words but we'll see what happens. I'm nearing the climax, so things should get around to ending soon with this draft.

I haven't started the final edit, but that is my goal for the first couple of weeks in August, to get that edit going and be done with it by end of the month.

I'm waiting on 3 short stories I have submitted, though one could get a response any day now. Need to work on a couple and maybe send out some more. Didn't send any really this month but it's okay. I've been novel focused. One more month for summer goals.

I'll post some August focused goals tomorrow. :-)
