I was in dreamland. LOL I do get my bike done everyday. Once the weather gets a bit warmer i will be out walking again and then will check the gym out and use the treadmill.

Good you keep up the exercise. I do my bike everyday and back exercise so I get mine in.
A lot of people don't exercise and wonder why they are not losing weight. Along with the watching what you eat exercise is a plus.

I like going to the gym once I get there, so it's just getting myself there. I went today after work as needed to drop off the key for the old gym as they weren't staffed 24 hours but you go co in and use it any time. I did some lifted and 15 minutes walk on treadmill.

I am still doing my bike everyday and have been losing inches. I still have to watch the weights because of spurs in my shoulders and do not want the pain to come back.

Great you can keep up the gym. We never made it to one last year so hope we can this year.

I went to the gym after work since I joined a gym that has a location half a block away from the store I work in. Focused on upper body lifting.

Luckily, it's just a tad chilly here but not really cold since I'm now in Southern California. And now I got rid of the excuse of the long drive in traffic since switching gyms.

So it would appear...

Baby, it's cold outside! -35, 40!

And, if you're like me, winter weather can sometimes make working out seem less than desirable. After all, who likes to dress like a stuffed pumpkin to go for a walk or run, or risk slipping on ice? Even heating up the car in the wee hours of the morning to get to the gym can be quite tough!
Freezing temperatures and darker days can wreak havoc on workout motivation--if we let them.

With the right attitude and mix of exercises, winter can actually be a fantastic time to mix up your workouts, get creative and even reignite your love of fitness by trying new, fun activities. Not to mention, exercise can help you beat those winter blues!

Change of mind.

Winter isn't just about cold weather, it's a whole new season! So now we need to embrace it, sit down and revisit our goals, then plan out what to accomplish during the next few months. We're all so busy these days that time seems to fly, which is why it's important to reflect on our past accomplishments and current goals. It can help to see winter in a new, inspired light.
 
Go out and play!

If you can't seem to muster the energy to work out this time of year, try "playing" instead. You can burn quite a few calories playing indoors or out. The best part about playing is that it doesn't feel like working out—though you can still get your heart rate up and have an excellent cardio session. Have a blast in the winter wonderland outside by making snow angels (214 calories burned per hour on average), having a snowball fight (319 calories burned per hour), or even building a snowman (285 calories burned per hour). No snow in your area? Try ice skating—an activity you can do indoors or outdoors. Ice skating can burn more than 450 calories per hour—and it's a blast!
 
Take up a winter sport.

Why not try a new winter sport? From cross country skiing to snowshoeing, there are many great options that burn mega calories and put a whole new twist on your cold-weather workout plans.
 
Get creative at home.

Getting to the gym can be more of a hassle when it is cold outside. We should never use snowy weather as an excuse to miss your daily exercise. Instead, work out at home, where's it's cozy and warm. Whether you pop in a new workout DVD, invest in a few pieces of fitness equipment or even just use your body weight for a killer workout, exercising at home can be a convenient (and fun!) solution to staying on track. And the best part about working out from your own home? You don't have to worry about sharing a TV with fellow gym goers or possibly catching an illness at the gym. Home really is where the (healthy) heart is.
 
Try something new.

There's nothing like signing up for a new class or joining an indoor community sports group to get you up and moving during chilly months. By trying something new, reignites our motivation for fitness, cold weather and all! Whether it's indoor volleyball, a dodgeball, at a local school gym, mall walking, participating in a regular activity that you've paid for (or have teammates counting on you to play in) is a fantastic way to stay active in the winter time. You might even make some new friends or learn some new skills.
 
Set a main goal—and some smaller ones.

If you're simply not a winter personality and love the cold crisp air winter weather leaves your motivation to exercise colder than an icicle. Why not heat things up with a challenging, new goal. It can be anything from losing those last 10 pounds, to walking or running a 5K (yes, you can still run outside in the cold) or even doing a full pull-up, but choose a goal that you really want and that will stretch you beyond your comfort zone to reach it. The thing to do is set a smart goal that can be broken into smaller, achievable action steps. Instead of focusing on simply working out this winter, this type of goal-setting allows you to focus on the bigger picture—your dreams.
 
Get excited.

If you've never been a winter fan, start focusing on what you do love about it and how this time of year provides new opportunities for your fitness and health. From eating clean, to curling up with a big mug of sugar-free hot cocoa in front of the fireplace after a long workout, there is much to love about winter when you embrace and appreciate it.
While there are many great workout options this winter, be sure you always stay safe no matter what you do—especially if you decide to enjoy the winter weather outdoors. Most of all, have fun out there. It's a wonderful time of year—enjoy it!

We haven;t gone to the gym net. I have been having problems with the arthritis, but I still do my bike. i usually try to put Ben Gay on my hands as they hurt. Somedays, hart to get up with the legs hurting, other days fine. Dampness is my enemy.

Am going to change gyms to one that is closer to home and work. Signed up at the new gym yesterday and did bench press while I was there. Today talked to previous gym about contract ending and did 45 minutes of cardio on the treadmill. I will have 2 gyms until part way in January. Looking forward to the change as the new gym has a lot more equipment and options.

Went to the gym yesterday and lifted, focused on upper body then jogged 20 minutes. Have to be careful as my left elbow is being cranky, which is odd because it's my good arm but some reason it's bothered me the last few days (nothing happened or anything). Next lifting will be more lower body focused.

Sorry, I haven't weighed or measured lately due in part to having the cold. Finally down to just a random bit of coughing and made it back to the gym at last. Been about 2 weeks since I last worked out which is the longest time I've gone without doing something.

Some full body weight lifting and a 20 minute jog on the treadmill.

Well this putting to good use my time when I'm up as early as I am has definitely begun to pay off. I've lost 2" from my tummy; mid-section and an 1.5" from my hips.

Now I'm going to wait a month before I measure again.

Doing better as pain has gone. Back to doing my back exercises as had fallen years ago and have degenerated disc. I also get pain in the muscle. I had to cut my bake to 30 min but once I am back to normal again I will increase it back to 60. I am doing stairs again. I get these attacks now and then. Goes with getting old I guess. LOL

Think she means you because of the new username it starts with Mani. Sorry about the stairs being more difficult now. My grandma is finally getting her wish and they are getting a house that is one story as before they had an upstairs and a downstairs. Now it will be all on one level and I know she has wanted that for years.


No exercise right now for me but I have a small head cold. Will be easing back into things soon though.

Who is Mani? Are you talking to me Marian? I do enough of exercise. Right now, with a wind of 40 miles an hour, and in the high 40, even with heat in the house, my left leg is not supporting me, in the muscle. Doc told me once I had Polymyalgia, which is arthritis in the muscle. I had to use a cane today. But still got my bike done. I hope it doesn't rain tomorrow and I don't have the pain, as I love walking. Tylenol helped yesterday but there was not wind and it was not this cold, today took two but didn't do anything. I might have to take the extra strength. I hate when I am out of control of things. I guess that time is trying to come. Had a hard time going down stairs to do wash so held on. Dh takes the clothes down and up and I just put them in the machine.

The most I lifted was 5 lbs, with two of them. I can lift one l0 lb. but doc wants me off because spurs in shoulders will come back. I do miss it.

Went to the gym today and focused on lower body, some squats and deadlifts, then jogged on treadmill for 30 minutes.

Went to gym this evening to try the deadlift again. Felt a little better but still couldn't get 265 or 260, so guess my max for now will remain at 255.

I miss lifting weights because of the spurs in my shoulders.

Today, did 30 min walking, then walked in the grocery store, and Jo Ann a sewing and craft store and my bike for 60 min and exercise against the wall and my legs were tired, had to get off them for a while.

I checked out a women's crossfit gym that was called Pink Iron. I got to try a class and it was fun though different as the routine today was more olympic lift focused. I haven't tried overhead squat much (holding bar overhead then squating) but it was fun to try. And oh the burpees. Crossfit tends to combine cardio with lifting, so it's a different challenge but made it through.

Marian, I have to be doing something too, but not as aggressive as you. LOL If I am not doing anything the time drags and I find myself going after food, even tho I am not hungry.
Drinking two bottles of water help to ward off hunger till it is time to eat.

Elf glad to hear you are not going over board with the exercise. I was doing 80 on the bike and then started getting spasms in the legs, so had to cut back to 60. I waited till I had pain because I didn't think that was much, but I was wrong, at least for me. But one thing, as we age we need to keep fit in order to be healthy and live a long life.

Camey - Don't worry. I make sure I have the proper form and don't just try to get the heaviest possible at risk of injury. Some aches are okay but definitely not doing anything that will hurt me.

Marian - Nice on the walk. I prefer going outside when possible but treadmills do have a convenience factor.

Nothing for me today, just the usual work on my feet all shift.

When I get to your age Cam, maybe, lol not before and even then slow down yes stop absolutely not! I can tell you the God's honest truth I stop I'll die. I can not be doing nothing physically.
I'll be getting a treadmill so I have my walking year round. I'll have my painting and writing We're talking full retirement now but right now, working for a newspaper? Unless I lose my mind I can go for years doing what I'm doing! At least that's what I'm feeling and looking at today.

In the meantime I've went for a 20 minute walk out in the fresh air this morning then came back and did my wall push ups and squats.

Monday bad day for me as have beds and washing. Love the 30 min walks but too cold today and windy so only did my bike for 60 min.

Marian, walking to clients is great. They say walking you lose more and you don't get tired.
Other activity tires you out. When you get to my age you will slow down. LOL

Elf good work. Don't continue if muscles hurt.

hey everyone Way to go...

My exercise isn't your typical exercise routine. I do, my walking when I can. It's my main exercise. Because I have a desk job 10 months out of the year I have to make deliberate time. So in the mornings before leaving for work I do wall pushups and squats against the wall. During the day I deliberately get up from my desk to walk during break times rather than sitting with the others for coffee and snacks.
But my activity levels are more on the weekends keeping busy with physical activity of every day living both indoor and outdoor.
Saturday's are my heavy cleaning and laundry and I don't stop until it's done Usually anywhere from 5-7 hours non-stop.
Yesterday was that day with extra projects that took physical energy. I tore apart my laundry closet and re structured it form top to bottom. Then I had another that took sanding and painting and rebuilding. My day started at 6 and ended at 3. 9 hours of physical activity.

Today not so much. Up at 6 mostly did meal prep for the day and some baking for tomorrows thanksgiving. Since then I've been writing,

TODAY Is MY tomorrow. It's up to ME to shape it, To TAKE CONTROL and seize EVERY opportunity. The POWER is in the choices I make EVERY day. I eat well, I live well I SHAPE ME!

Did 30 min walking today and took cane for the little incline up and then down. Then did 60 on bike. I would go the 3rd time but I don't want to go alone, especially where I take my cane and use it sometimes. So I settle for two and maybe 3 if dh goes with the dog.

I walked over 6 miles with work, errands and such today and did other stuff too.

Yesterday I got over 7 miles in with work, errands and such.

And Monday I got in over 5 miles with work, errands and such.

I walked 20 min and did 30 on bike today. Went grocery shopping, washed clothes and towels, put stuff away, fed Hailey and DH, did dishes and now I am tired. Going to lie down after mail. Hope tomorrow is good so I can walk again.

Have to make sure it stops first. ;-) The hand rails help if legs are struggling to make the step down. Though really, I would prefer to run outside but haven't found a place yet and it's still so hot outside.

Went to gym yesterday even though I didn't really feel like it and managed a decent upper body session plus 20 minute jog on treadmill. Today, I didn't have work but went to the gym in the evening and managed to get my new one rep max on squats again and at 2 reps this time. Also, walked 30 minutes on treadmill.

We may start looking into the Humana gym that is free this fall. Today did my 30 min and have 30 more. Wanted to walk but legs tired as had to change beds, and wash sheets and made Rigotta with pasta and sauce. Resting a while then doing my bike. Going to watch the debates tonight. Went to gym after work even though it was late and had traffic issues. I need a new gym closer to home or work as it's a longish drive to begin with but at times traffic makes it worse. Even at 11:30 pm had standstill traffic on the interstate. Didn't get to the gym until midnight but got my lifting done with just some lighter weight warmups then focused on deadlifts. Got new 1 rep max on those, even though it was really slow, so am happy.

Our Insurance has free gym and we might sign up. I just finished 30 on bike. No walking today as have pain in thigh. I might have to cut bike back to 60 instead of 80.

Did weight lifting tonight with a focus on squats. Near the end of the training cycle so today was a new personal record on the back squat as I managed to get one rep at 205 lbs. Also walked for 25 minutes as did more sitting than usual today since didn't have work.

Rest day from gym, so just had work. I am on my feet all shift though and over an hour was spent wandering around the store checking item counts to see if the numbers in the system were accurate. I get a little cardio in just by going to work.

Well, I did a lot of walking, Did 20 walking with dog and then walked all over Home Depot with dh to get stuff and believe me we walked from one end to the other, then came home and had lunch and did my 60 min on bike. I then made cookies to freeze as I am forever having some place to go and need to bring something. Tomorrow, is the senior health fair and they give out stuff from vendors, and Sat is the church fair and a first communion so I am constantly on the go.

I just came back from my walk, and already did 30 min on bike. Doing mail now and figuring out new topics, then off to finish my bike. I find reading on the sit down bike make it go faster.
When My son was living here, before he got married, he had the treadmill and I used it. Dh has the stair one, but can't pronounce the name. Can not use it because bone doc said it is not goo for arthritic hips.

I did manage my bike for 60 as 80 and walking was taking a toll on me. The weather has stopped my walking and be glad when the cooler comes. Allergies are bothering me, and my arthritis in the hands, so not in good form for exercise.

Last night I did squats after work. High bar squat, overload and pause squats but didn't do my usual sumo deadlift as that gets a little noisy and I had a headache. But I did better than last week so can increase the weights next time. Tonight is upper body work and some jogging.

Went to gym after work and focused on upper body. Bench press, assisted pull-ups with the machine, tricep pushdown and cable seated rows followed by jogging on treadmill for 20 minutes.

Darlene, put the lease on the dog and open the door and step outside. Then lock the door and take a step down, then another step down the walk, and you are on your way. Come on you know you can do it. Say you are doing it for the dog. That ought to get you going.

"Fitness accountability" sounds like something I need. I intend to walk with my dog. That doesn't seem hard at all, but the doing it is tough!! I need to walk out the door! lol

We missed the story but have dampness outside so decided not to walk today. Yesterday, it turned so cold so I walked around the house for l0 min, may do it today after my next 30 minutes on bike, as I had to cut it down from 80 to 60, with the walking because of muscle cramps. Guess have to work my self up to it again.

Yesterday walked 25 minutes and did 80 on the bike. Today was hurting but did l0 on walk and 60 on bike. Will get back again to the 25 and 80 once the hurt stops.

Had a very good night's sleep Feeling rested and energetic today.

I do the wall push when I get up. Even if I sit or stand too long it helps. Then I did the legs from left to right and holding one and then both. Then I have the prolapse exercise too, also added l0 min walking. We went out to eat as had a gift card and had barley soup, baked haddock, sweet potato and carrots. I do not think I will have any thing tonight as still full, but could have a small dish or ice cream or some cantaloupe or watermelon.

Day 4
Well it's been pouring rain all night and still raining No walking for this gal today. The alternative was wall push-ups, wall squats and crunches and my steps program is now installed to count my steps each day.

It was still hot later so we decided to try another day to walk. He usually goes about l0 am with Hailey so will see if tomorrow is a better day. Landon is coming so not sure if I will go as he could come early and I would not be home. Tues have doc apt, and Wed Charlie does, so it all depends on how hot it is later in the morning. It should be cooling down now that we are in the last two weeks of August. I like walking in the cooler weather.

Well, even with just the half hour this morning because my back isn't use to walking distances and on tarmac my back was hurting. I had anticipated this so that's why I paced myself with just a half hour. 15 minutes one way and then turned around and came back. Plus I had the few things that still needed doing around here so I was also trying to preserve my back for that.

I will gradually increase it to the hour a day even if i divide it up 1/2 hour in the morning before work and then again in the evening. Weather permitting of course. but I want to get back to my 10,000 steps a day!

When the sun goes down, hopefully, we are going to walk. I have to take it slow and will take my cane, in case my knee buckles. It will be a short walk. I walked in the mall and noticed when I got to the car, the walk was not very long, half the mall and back, my back was hurting. So think the mall was a little too much. Will start with the circle in my neighborhood.

When I went to Disney, years ago, I ate everything and came home without gaining a lb. because of all the walking I did. So just goes to show you walking makes you lose weight, but you have to do a lot of it if you want to eat to your heart contents.

And we're day 3!

That is why I LOVE my early mornings!

My exercise is a simple 1/2 hour walk mixed in with my other physical activities out in the yard and in the home.

My accountability is here and I have my sister in New Brunswick who keeps on me accountable every day via cell phone. She's in on this with me. And if you're noticing my weightloss tracker on my page I now have almost 6 pounds gone!

And we went for a very early morning walk 30 minutes. The weather was to perfect not to take advantage!

Yesterday I kept my commitment to walk to and from work in the afternoon. I left the car home and walked back to work and then home taking the longer way to increase my number of steps!
Felt goo!
Weather permitting I have full intentions on doing so again today!

Many of us take the benefits of walking for granted. Each day we limit the steps we take by driving or sitting for long periods of time. But walking even a few blocks a day has unlimited benefits – not only for our health, but our spirit as well, for as we walk, we connect with the earth.
Walking lets our body remember simpler times, when life was less complicated. This helps us slow down to the speed of our body and take the time to integrate the natural flow of life into our cellular tissue. Instead of running from place to place or thinking about how much more we can fit into our day, walking allows us to exist in the moment.

Each step we take can lead us to becoming more mindful of ourselves and our feelings. Walking slows us down enough not only to pay attention to where we are in our body, but also to our breath. Taking time to simply notice our breath while we walk, through the length of our inhales and exhales, and becoming attuned to the way in which we breathe is taking a step towards mindfulness. When we become more mindful, we gradually increase our awareness of the environment around us and start to recognize that the normal flow of our thoughts and feelings are not always related to where we are in the present moment. Gradually we realize that the connection we have with the earth and the ground beneath our feet is all that is. By walking and practicing breathing mindfully we gain a sense of calm and tranquility -- the problems and troubles of the day slowly fade away because we are in the ‘now’.

The simplicity and ease of a walking practice allows us to create time, space and awareness of our surroundings and of the wonders that lie within. Taking a few moments to walk each day and become more aware of our breath will in turn open the door for the beauty of the world around us to filter in.
