OCTOBER:

1) Playing by Heart by Deborah Raney - 4
(Short - 139 pages - but I enjoyed it)

2) The Secret Life of Becky Miller by Sharon Hinck - 5
(This could be described as "mom" lit, but this is an excellent book for anyone. Spiritual values, very creative writing style, I highly recommend it.)

3) Anthology, Autumn Crescendo - 3 1/2
(I'm never sure how to rate anthologies. They're light, but sometimes just what you need.)

4) Winter Is Past by Ruth Axtell Morren - 5
(I loved this Regency and will read more by Morren.)

5) A Rush of Wings by Kristen Heitzmann - 5
(My only criticism is that it seemed a little long.)

6) A Winter Seeking by Vinita Hampton Wright (Christmas) - 4

7) All Good Gifts by Kathleen Morgan (Christmas) - 4

I'm currently reading two "Tuesdays with Tracy" (devotional) by Tracy Hurst and "Long Journey Home" (novel) by Sharlene MacLaren.

I just got a new bookshelf with glass doors to keep all my books neatly organized in! (Very excited!)

That's okay, Willow, the first month we did this I didn't have a list made up and had to try and remember as well. Now I keep a running list as I read the books so I won't forget.

Cyndy, sounds like the books you read take a lot more thinking than just reading through!

Neta Jackson
Book #1, The Yada Yada Prayer Group®. If you haven't had a chance to catch the wave, you'll want to start with Neta’s first novel in this series about a group of Chicago-area women from totally diverse backgrounds who are thrown together at a women’s conference and decide to form a “prayer group.”

Book #2, The Yada Yada Prayer Group® Gets Down. The fledgling prayer group endures a terrifying experience that causes the members to wonder whether they will ever get back to “normal.” Then a well-meaning gesture incites a backlash of anger in the group, forcing them to confront generations of racial division, pain, and mistrust—and stretches their friendship to the limit as they discover new depths of true forgiveness.

Book #3, The Yada Yada Prayer Group® Gets Real, finds Jodi Baxter's oasis turned upside down when her upstairs neighbors move out and her nemesis, Leslie (Stu) Stuart, moves in! Avis' middle-aged cocoon is turned inside out, too, by a beau from her past, and Chanda's future has never looked brighter. But Stu's proximity to the Baxter household will draw her secret to the surface-and no one is ready for the crisis that will follow.

I also reading the Chronological Order Bible

I didn't relize this topic was here so I might have not remembered a few

Matthew 17:20 He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

Ecclesiastes 4:12 (NIV)

two can defend themselves.

Being defeated is often temporary, giving up makes it permanent.”

Connie & Kim, I think you two must read 10hrs/day. I don't think I could read that many books in 1 month even if I read from sun up to sun down. You must be fast readers~~Evelyn Woods type readers LOL

My September book list:

1) "Iran the Coming Crisis", Mark Hitchcock, gives a close up look at Iran and how what's happening with that country today fits into Bible Prophecy. I thought it was interesting but then I'm into Bible Prophecy.

2) "The Grace and Truth paradox", Randy Alcorn, it's a small book that presents the differences between Grace & Truth and shows how, although they are very very different, we have to have both in our lives in order to live a Christ Like Life.

(This is what I call a "drop off book." After I read it I wrote a note in the front of it that told the finder the book was theirs and that I hoped God blessed their reading of it. If you've never done this before it's a great way to witness to someone. You don't know who the person is who will find it but God does. And, won't it be exciting to meet that person in heaven!!)

That's all for me for this month :o)

WOW!!!! ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!

I thought I was an "avid" reader. No way that I can consider myself that now that I've seen that some of you read 15-28 books in one month. If I'm reading fiction I can read one in 3-5 days and if Non-fiction it takes longer because I slow way down to catch more of the details.

God Bless,
Cyndy emoticon

GGMom--you have to remember that I was off work for the entire month of August due to back surgery. It slowed me down physically, but energized me in reading. I am always a reader, though. I don't enjoy TV very much, I'd rather read.

These are the books I have read this past month. I am in the middle of packing and moving so I don't think I will get much more reading done before the end of the month. I enjoy reading christian books that help me grow spiritually more than anything else. (Pardon me for not remembering the Author on some of these books)

Thanks! I'll check out that thread re: The Shack. I have a number of friends who are therapists and they seem very impressed with the book. However, they did say that it did stretch their view of God...I'm not sure if that comment was good or bad. I'm sure that I will find out. Great comment, by the way, on the fact that the book is fiction and to keep our Bibles handy! It's what we should measure ALL of our life by- even our reading. Many blessings! Gail

Hi Gail, thanks for sharing your list. I have read both of those series; I think that I have read just about everything that Blackstock has written except the last two books in her last series. I'll have to look into that Sara Mitchell book.

We have a thread under Book Discussions call The Shack, to read or not to read which gives the different views of the book. If you are interested in reading it, remember that it is fiction and keep your Bible handy. God bless, Kim

I am looking over the books that I have read this past month and realize that I have been on a Terri Blackstock binge! I didn't get much reading done due to travel...which I find weird! Usually I get a tone of reading done on the plane.

Everyone that I have been talking to has asked me if I have read "The Shack." Have any of you read that one yet?

That's okay, Ginger, I probably didn't make it clear. This is for the list of books that you have read over the month. The What are you reading list has really turned into a before, during and after thread! Not a problem! Kim

Redeeming Love is one of my all time favorites! It is such an emotional read that I don't re-read it very often.
Another great book by Francine Rivers is "Scarlet Letter."
The book I just finished is "The Power of a Woman's Words" by Sharon Jaynes. 5 stars

Just finished "Redeeming Love" by Francine Rivers.

5 STARS

I could not put it down and did not want it to end.

It's a fictional re-telling of Hosea. "Angel" is a prostitute and "Michael Hosea" falls in love with her and marries her. You will fall in love with Micheal and your heart will ache with Angel's pain.

MUST READ!

I'm just going to list all the books I read in July, without the genre and with only a few ratings, most of them verbal rather than numeric. To tell the truth, some of them have run together in my mind, since I didn't keep a permanent record of all of them. I'll do better for August. Oh, and I'm not including things like cookbooks, ballet instruction, humor, secular mysteries, classics, etc.

- Terri Blackstock - Shadow of Doubt - great. Newpointe 911 series. Made me want to read more in the series.
- Gayle Roper - Fatal Deduction - top-notch.
- Lori Copeland - Mother of Prevention.
- Jill Elizabeth Nelson - The Reluctant Burglar - very good.
-Lori Copeland - Hope - okay.
- Gayle Roper - Caught in the Act - top-notch.
- Dee Henderson - The Witness - pretty good.
- Gayle Roper - Emerald Windows - very good.
- Dee Henderson - Before I Wake - couldn't finish it - a bit tedious and stilted.
- Terri Blackstock - Private Justice - excellent. Newpointe 911 series.
- Angela Hunt - Doesn't She Look Natural - terrific. Made me want to read the next one.
- Kathryn Springer - A Treasure Worth Keeping - very good. Love Inspired Suspense series.
- Rene Gutteridge - Snitch - loved it!!!
- Linda Hall - Shadows in the Window - excellent.
- Neta Jackson - Yada Yada Prayer Group Gets Down (#2). Couldn't finish it. I found parts of it offensive, especially the portrayal of Ruth Garfield and the double standard about race issues.
- Linda Hall - Steal Away - didn't finish - too brooding and angst-ridden.
- Hannah Alexander - Hidden Motive - great! Love Inspired Suspense series.
- Jill Elizabeth Nelson - The Reluctant Runaway - very good.
- Tracey Bateman - Claire Knows Best - excellent. Very amusing, but with deep undercurrents.
- Kathryn Springer - The Prince Charming List - loved it!!! Again, amusing but not shallow.
- Rene Gutteridge - Scoop - top-notch! Even better than "Snitch."
- Tracey Bateman - Catch a Rising Star - couldn't finish. Heroine too ditzy, too much pop culture.
- Rene Gutteridge - The Splitting Storm - absolutely riveting. Another Gutteridge winner.

Cheers,
Phoebe

God bless, Kim

There is nothing more important in your life than your relationship with Christ.

Something is wrong when focus is, "how sin does not separate us from God," rather than, "how God separates us from sin."

Live today with all you've got for Jesus. Never give in and Never give up.

Well, I am starting this a day early! On this thread we will list the books that we have read over the past month so that we have a place to go where the imformation can be easily found, and build up those wish lists more easily!!!

Please include: Author, Title, genre, and one - five stars. If you have a one or two line comment, include that also.

God bless, Kim
