My salad bowl is also enormous and I don't care what people think of me at all!!! I had lunch with friends yesterday, and not only did I have this really BIG salad, I had also brought along my own dressing, tofu, fresh fruit and almonds to add to the salad! I just whipped out my little container and put what I had on top of this already big salad, and ate with gusto!!

Salad is my final meal of the day and I usually take my time and really enjoy the tastes of all the ingredients. It's interesting to think of flavors (at least for me it is). Makes that salad so enjoyable.

Flattening your salad with your belly now that's creative!

My bowl is rediculously huge. It's about the same size as the bowl on my stand mixer! I'm a salad stirrer and my huge stainless bowl is fun to stir and eat out of. Definitely fits the idea of crawling in to eat your way out!

I'm a closet salad eater at work. I jam a huge amount of salad into a gallon zip lock bag. If you put it between your stomach and the fridge and lean on it, it becomes very flat. When I get to work I use a regular bowl, but keep refilling it as it begins to empty.

Haha! I got a kick out of this thread!

Nice to know I'm not alone. I was almost embarrassed to sit down with my mixing bowl of veggies, lol.

I do not stick to the rule of three meals a day. It just doesn't work for me. I eat breakfast and then several small meals through out the day. I know Dr F talks about true hunger vs toxic hunger, but getting overly hungry, true or not, is a real danger zone for me. If the worst deviation you make on this diet is to eat more frequent, smaller meals, my personal opinion is that you'll be doing just fine.

Clearly my bowl isn't big enough according to this thread lol. I use a "soup" bowl - round as a dinner plate but dips in the middle for a nice spread and easier access without spilling salad over the edge as soon as I dip into it.

I'm unsure how to get any more than this into my body in one sitting. Really this bowl does not make a small salad! Once I add just 1/2 c beans I feel like I'm nearly force feeding myself. Otherwise I try to do my beans as a snack in homemade hummus.

**I'm unsure if you all experience this but my upper belly (I assume small intestines) stays firm and pokes out a good deal since starting ETL 11 days ago. I assume it's the ruffage, but boy, it's hard to suck in it. It's not dairy and can't be gluten LOL, so ..... it must me the fiber. Is it really wrong to split into 4 or 5 meals so I get enough, yet spread out teh ruffage?

Terry

I'm glad I found this thread in the archives... I just made a lunch salad for myself, and I was thinking, how in the HECK am I supposed to fit this onto a dinner plate? I can pile it on, but when I try to eat, it will end up on the floor. So I took out my medium mixing bowl, feeling pretty weird. But it worked really nicely. And glad that I'm not alone. It doesn't feel quite so weird anymore, LOL! I think I'm going to scour the thrift stores for pretty large-sized serving bowls... collect a set in similar color themes or something that will 'go with' my plates & dining room.

Today I just replaced my at work salad bowl/"tupperware." My oldie was about 10 cups (I didn't realize it was that big until I got home and looks at the bottom). My new one is just over 18 cups! Okay I might not fill it up every day, but I plan on getting close, and I don't have to crunch and cram my food to get it to shut. Yah!
You guys are the only ones that would understand my excitement!

When I am at home I use my big mixing bowl. That is about 12-14 cups I think. For work my container isn't big enough :(. I struggle to find a big one that will fit in the fridge at work or in my little cooler. So sad.

My hubby teased me once for eating my cereal out of a big "Jethro" bowl because the normal size ones were dirty. Hey, I measured the cereal! No Jethro cereal portions for me! LOL

Tara - I could have written that post. I am a recovering pasta addict too! I have been known to say that I could eat my way out of a large room full of pasta. HUGE bowls of pasta, with a side salad was my "go to" meal. Now I eat a HUGE bowl of salad sometimes with a little pasta thrown in. I too, have to be careful with pasta. I've switched to whole wheat at home and it makes all the difference.

I stay on my road and I don't change lanes.

Wow, I'm impressed by the number of 4-quart salad bowls! I got a kick out of the term "Jethro bowl." I guess I may be eating even more salad sometime in the future!

Oh absolutely, e!! If you don't have to climb in and eat your way back out then the bowl is too small emoticon

My salad bowl is an old serving bowl, I'd estimate it to be about 1.5 qt. It is 12 inches in diameter and 5 inches high. My salads are very filling, it's all I can do to eat that amount, my salads are mostly raw vegetables and beans, less than half is romaine lettuce.

Before last weekend, I ate salad out of the typical dinner-salad bowl. Dinky. And now useless.

So I'm taking the bowl I use to mix salads for family and guests as my salad bowl. I'm buying my DH one; everyone else may have to bring their own when they come visit, at least until I save enough $ to provide them!

I'm actually not at all embarassed to admit mine is probably at least 4 qts as well emoticon emoticon . It's a great conversation starter when I sit down to eat with visitors. I was on vacation with my father, and every evening he asked what I planned to do with that bowl and then he would time me to see how long it took me to get to the bottom. Quick aside...he started E2L today, and he's so excited about the prospect of healthy eating and living into his 70's. My sister just wrapped up her first 6 weeks and she's down 24 #s and feeling like a new person. I guess I'm not crazy after all??? emoticon

WILD4STARS: my hubby would playfully tease you that you're eating out of a "Jethro" bowl. (Remember the Beverly Hillbillies and Jethro's cereal bowl?) LOL

I'd guess my salad bowl for home to be 2 quarts, but I pile it high. My work bowl is not big enough and I need to find something else that is not glass, is portable, and is also big and will still fit in our tiny fridge at work. I'd guess it's 1.5 quarts, and I can't pile it high if I want to get a lid on it. I cram it as tight as I can, though.

This is going to be embarrassing! My salad bowl is 4 QUARTS!!

I like to use it because it has a dome shaped lid and room to shake it to evenly coat a small amount of salad dressing over the entire salad. My husband says my salads would feed a family of four and he's probably about right.

It's an old tupperware bowl that I don't think they make any more.

Lately my old salad bowl can't hold what I want to put in it. So I looked at the bottom of the bowl I'm using now--2.5 qts.! How big is your salad bowl?
