OCTOBER 11th 15,000 CARDIO MINUTE TEAM UPDATE

As of 10:40 AM Oct. 11th we have fallen off pace to reach our goal of 15,000 minutes this month by 165 minutes. We currently have 4674 minutes and are on pace to finish with 14,489 minutes. This is 511 minutes short of our goal. For those of you who are logging in those minutes - great job. For those who are waiting for a sign that you should get involved - this is it.

This team can reach this goal. Let's do it!

OCTOBER 10th 15,000 CARDIO MINUTE TEAM UPDATE

At 11:15 PM Oct. 9th we are on pace to log in 15,497 minutes this month. Six people have already passed the 500 minute mark - two of them have more than 600 minutes. All six of these people are on pace to surpass last months individual high mark of 1778 minutes. I love the way this team steps up to a challenge! Keep it up!!!

Congratulations to JEEPMAMA and FIT4SUMMER for being the first 2 team members to break the 500 cardio minutes mark this month. Great work!

OCTOBER 8th 15,000 CARDIO MINUTE TEAM UPDATE

Through the first 7 days we have accumulated 3570 total minutes and are 183 minutes ahead of the pace that we'll need to keep to reach our goal. If we keep this pace we will eclipse our goal by about 800 minutes!!! There are 19 people participating in this challenge.

seems ok to me to count the sledgehammer time as weights. Just remember that each member can only count strength training a MAX. of 3x per week, so if you're doing regular training in addition to this then you might be over the MAX.

OCTOBER 5 15,000 Cardio Minute Team Challenge Update

As a team we currently have 19 teammates participating in this challenge (Any takers to be #20?) Through the first 5 days we are 78 minutes ahead of the pace that we'll need to keep to reach our goal. Some of you had a fantastic weekend. Your extra efforts really gave us a bump! Keep up the good work - 15,000 here we come!!!

P.S. - As for DAI479's question, "Can my 12 pound sledgehammer 14 minute routine be called weight training??" It seems reasonable to me to count it as either cardio or strength training - depending on what sort of challenge it is to him psyically. Thoughts?

OCTOBER 2 UPDATE ON 15,000 CARDIO MINUTES TEAM GOAL
We started slow on October 1st - ending the day about 250 minutes off the pace needed to reach our goal. October 2nd we closed that gap significantly. At the end of the day we had a total of 944 minutes, leaving us just 56 minutes off pace. If you know some of our teammates who are not currently on board yet encourage and invite them to join us.

See you at the top,
Mike

I had fully intended to start last night, but it just didn't happen for me. So I'm going to give it a try tonight & see where I get after I go to the gym.

YEAH I can do it! I checked out the strength training exercises and SP has bands on there so its all good. I'm in! Thanks for changing it up so we can all pick and choose what we would like to do. NOW I have to get my routine logged in on myfittness so I can track it. :)

I have to remember to stop and think.

Sherry - I'm going to start using them tonight! I talked to my husband at lunch about it & he agrees with me that I just don't have the time replace part of my cardio at the gym with weight lifting right now. So I'm going to stick with cardio at the gym at lunch M-F and do the SP strenghth training 3x per week at home. Since we went out to lunch today, I'll have to do both tonight but I'll have plenty of time since I usually get home around 4:30 and don't have any kid stuff to deliver children to tonight.

So I'm going to make it a team goal for October to do SP strength training and people can count their gym lifting in that too.

I love using the SP strength training program. If you have and want to use weights you can, if you don't there are plenty of other exercises to do. I just started doing them again today. I am starting out slow since its been so long since I have done any strength training.

I'm really enjoying using the SP meal plan... having a little difficulites this week as I didn't make it to the grocery store this weekend, so I'm making due as close to the plan as possible.

This has got me to thinking... maybe instead of the weight lifting, we should do the SP Strength Training. You can customize a program with the equipment your do/don't have, how much time you have to spend on it, and which days of the week you want to do it. Most of the exercise are more of the toning type and are pretty simple to do, I use to do them while watching tv at night. What do ya'll think? Take a look at it & let me konw! emoticon

Ok no biggie. I know its not the same as weight lifting but I just wanted to check.
Will the weight challenge and cardio challenge be seperate or will you combine it? I plan on sticking with this program to see if I get any real results from it. Lifting acctual weights is not for me this time around. Not saying I don;t enjoy it but just wanting to see if the crunchless abs sculpting program is all its set out to be since I paid for it.
The personal cardio goal will remain the same at 1200 min for me. Its enough to be a challenge but not something that is going to be too much in a short period of time.

On to October! :)

my opinion is that weights must be used to count it since we're calling it weight training. Anyone else got an opinion?

I have a question for what qualifies for weight training. I'm not using weights just the bands to sculpt and that is resistance training. Would it still count as weight training for you all on the October challenge?

I am going to do my best to do my part for the month of October. I wasn't doing much this month because of my dad passing away and some other family problems, but I plan on giving it my all starting tomorrow! Sorry I wasn't much help with September! :(

I'm open to strenght training but the problem is that right now, all my exercise is on my treadmill. (although I do chase my 2 year old granddaughter around the park occasionally). Do you have any ideas on what kind of strength training could I do from home?

p.s. why is it that I'm only exercising my lower body but I'm losing weight in my upper body? That was the only good part about being over weight, that I was less pear shaped! lol

I just read an article about Strength training vs. Cardio, so I think next month we should have both a Strength training AND a Cardio Goal for the team. Here's the article: www.fitnessandresults.com/articles/s
tr
ength_vs_cardio.php

Now I'm not thinking of setting up a strength training list or anything crazy like that, but simply have something like "3x per week" type thing or should it be a "once per day" type thing? I don't know how often to put this one down for.

Also, for our Cardio... we're really struggling this month to get anywhere near our goal. So, since I'm wanting to add Strength Training time... we should really reduce our Cardio time.

Suggestions welcome for both! please please....
