I wish that we lived closer to areas that had such fun events. emoticon

I haven't heard anything around here, but I may keep an eye out. Those are pretty big deals! Time-wise, we get pretty crunched, but who knows??

Strings58 - you should do a little research, check and see what kinds of goings-on are happening in your area. Not only do fans do the CSTS thing every year, they put on shindigs, attend conventions (there's an annual Browncoats Ball that's held at a different place every year), and sometimes have viewing parties (I remember getting a blanket e-mail from someone in NYC, who was showing a few episodes on his/her rooftop - how awesome would that have been?!?). The fans are friendly and welcoming and just a wonderful group of people.

I am also jealous, Mr and I are trying to be super choosy about what we do this summer (save up for steamcon III) and our nearest CSTS event is in Portland. For us that's two hours to get there and then city driving is always shiny- or wait- no, the other thing. Still, it's in august- we may yet change our minds and head up there for it.
We had so much fun the last time we went! Great costumes (not on us), great vibe, and icing on the cake we won one of the best prizes! Instead of gift cards for stores in Portland that we'd never use, we got a London props store framed and sealed bill of the bank heist money used in Serenity. So pretty!
I'll never forget that evening- I might have squealed, . . but you couldn't hold me to it.

It sounds like so much fun! I am jealous. I do have some Marion Call cds and got a long podcast once. I can imagine how great it was to actually hear her in person.

Did anyone else attend a fundraiser this year? This is my third year in a row, and I still enjoy it.

My closest CSTS event is held at the Arlington Brewhouse in Virginia on both Friday and Saturday nights.

Friday night is pretty low key (for this group emoticon ). We screen the movie (of course) and have a silent auction (I won some good prints). They always have other things available for purchase (t-shirts, magnets, buttons, this year they had some oatie fruity bars, etc.), and they held a raffle and did a trivia contest.

Because it's on Saturday and in the afternoon (as opposed to Friday night), the crowd was rowdier (in a good way), and we have more events. We still had stuff for purchase, did the silent auction (I won some different, amazing prints - I'm really going to have to save up for a serious number of frames), and did the raffle. We always have a costume contest and not only screen SERENITY but also "Dr. Horrible".

If you've never seen "Dr. Horrible" on a big screen with a whole bunch of people who also love it, you are missing out. It's definitely a sing-a-long, and it's a wonderful feeling being in a room with others who really enjoy it and know it so well.

Last year we had belly dancers (they were good); this year we had an amazing performance by Marian Call. I highly recommend going to see her if she's anywhere in your neck of the woods. She's fun and entertaining, and I found myself laughing and singing along (even though I'd never heard of her before that day). The fact that she's from Anchorage (my old stomping ground and where I return to celebrate every other Thanksgiving) is just an added bonus. Check her out sometime:

So, to wrap up, a fun time was had by all, and the Mid-Atlantic Browncoats did a great job.

If you've never been to a CSTS event, try to attend one. You can come dressed or not (I'm not one who wears outfits), and while it's a fundraiser, it's also an affordable chance to get together with others and celebrate all that is "Firefly".
