Today was the first day I came close to reaching my goal of 10000 steps per day. Most of the week I've only been hitting between 300-2000 steps. Today I was over 9000! Yippee!

What did you all do today?

I am really struggling with my love for soda. It is almost like an addiction for me. I cannot start drinking it or it becomes a habit again. I have stooped drinking it for years at times and then I will start again. Very frustrating!! Hi my name is Melinda and I am a Sodaholic:( Very upsetting!! I try and find other types of liquids but none really satisfy me. Oh well I just am going to have to stop completely and know that for me one is to many

I know what you are talking about all too well, Gayle. I struggle not to raid the fridge. My life is extremley lonely and I am poor as well. It is so tough. I do a lot of walking during the day. In the evenings that is when it is the hardest. Nothing on tv and who wants to watch tv all night long. I don`t have friends in my life nor family except my daughter. She is too busy so I really don`t talk to her much nor see her much. For me it is God, will power and I don`t know what else but I hang on to a thread everyday. My connection to people is right here.

I'm not doing well...get too tired and then eat, or for company. I know these are common 'reasons'. I'm at about 190, didn't weigh myself this morning, but I'm definitely higher than when I first signed up on SP and not happy about that. How do you not eat too much/wrong stuff when the times you DO are when your defenses are down?

Most of my weight loss is due to walking 2 hours a day and walking down 9 floors and sometimes walking up. Of course the elevator is there and I do use it when I have some heavy stuff.

Feel like I'm back in my comfort zone after those 6 days away from Spark People. I knew tracking foods eaten and exercise done was a great way of keeping myself in order. I really missed it while I was gone, was so exhausted yesterday it was done half-heartedly, but today it was like pulling on a comfortable old sweater. I LOVE tracking, hahah. emoticon

Hi all, I was planning to take a day away from exercise after two very energetic days of packing and sorting stuff from my old house ready to bring over to where I'm living now. Knees were protesting and I dont think there was a muscle that didn't hurt. What I didn't count on was my exercise addicted (??? who would ever think that would happen!) body protesting, so out I went in the rain and the mud complete with two unenthusiastic dogs for a 45 minute walk through bushland. After 15 minutes or so even the dogs began to enjoy themselves, having warmed up along the way. We all returned home tired but warm and happy, and with me feeling very pleased I'd made the effort.

Our office at work is being reconfigured, so I spent most of the day cleaning out and tossing old stuff. We have to be out of our current space next week, then some "homeless" time while the crew works their magic, then move back in. At least I'm not sitting at my desk all day!

I put in four hours of packing, sorting and tidying stuff I've left sit in my old house for 9 months. This is day two of my determined effort to be done with the past and facing the future with confidence. Tired, ready for bed and its only 9.15pm, but very satisfied with my day. Meals were enjoyable and easy too. emoticon

I did not do that good yesterday - eatinge to much in the evening. Now that I work away from hoe the day is no problem - I am so busy working that I have to force myself to eat when itīs time... but when I come home at night it is not that easy anymore.

Had a bit of a chaotic day yesterday. Roof needs replacing, so the guy in charge of the job was up and down the ladder all day, and also replaced my water damaged front outside light with a new safe one. Friends in and out continually all day, so had no time to actually plan what I was eating beforehand. I made the easy muffin mix up (makes 4 batches of muffins), and made up one batch of the basic mix into apple walnut muffins which friends enjoyed getting into. I ate one only and was happy with that. I can see that mix recipe (from SP recipes) is going to be a permanent thing from now on cos it takes almost no time to make up into wonderful hot muffins when friends arrive for coffee. I ended up guessing what I was eating would be about right and just went with my choices. Result was that I was within my calorie limits, but carbs and sodium were both well over my levels while protein and fat were way down.

On the positive side, I did manage to stick to the calorie allowance, and I learned a few things along the way. Went to bed feeling a little down about it but woke this morning remembering what a friend-filled day would have involved for the 'old' me.

Worst I did was that apple muffin (without butter or cream cheese), a 6 inch chicken fillet sub from Subway, several cups of peppermint tea with artificiall sweetener and 2 coffees with a little skim milk in each. Before it would have been deep fried battered fish and chips, or McDonalds burger/s, sundae, chai latte (large everything), no doubt followed by afternoon tea of cream cakes and chocolate.

Think I'm finally managing to adapt to situations without either having to think too much about it or feeling deprived, and that feels soooo good!

Chris.
Hopefully emoticon = emoticon lol.

Considering my daughter munched on popcorn and sweets and made a chocolate cookie - I did weel , because I did not eat any of that. I did eat some leftover minced meat after dinner but as it stopped with that I will not consider it as bingeing...

My day just keeps getting better! 20 pointsfrom the wheel, then I was invited to McDonalds round dinner time by a good neighbour of mine. She planned to eat there, I was determined not to. She ordered a large serving of fries, I ordered peppermint tea, cos that was what I felt like, not into junk food any longer. She ate the fries and ordered a big burger, so I decided to order something else too. What did I order? Exactly what I was longing for - another large peppermint tea! Even the smell of the burgers cooking when I walked thru the door made me feel ill. Think I've moved on from fast food to Spark food, and dare I say it...I'm lovin' it!

Hi....everyone is doing so great here!! I weigh in tomorrow and and can't wait. It's been hard for me not to jump on that scale beacuse it is what I usually do when I try before to lose weight. This time I am determined to not let the scale rule my efoorts. I am proud that I ate healthy this week and walked for 10 minutes each day even when I didn't feel like it. Hope my efforts pay off tomorrow.
Have a wonderful day everyone!!

Today started out sort of bad, the students where I was subbing were a little on the rude side today, and that makes for a long day.

However, after I got home took a 20 minute nap, went to Curves did my thing, then went to the bike path and walked 2 miles in 36 minutes, record time. Was so pumped after I got done and just made the rest of the day better.

id like to wish you both the best of luck - you with your weight loss betty, and tish, with your dating and being able to juggle your food intake with enjoying eating out with someone.

i know that thing about cooking for one - packaged and take-away foods vs. taking the time to cook for yourself. sometimes it just seems too easy to eat the less healthy option cos it involves less work. i seem to have a recurring problem with that, but this time hope to beat it for once and for all.

when i start yearning for something i know i shouldn't eat, i go straight to spark recipes and browse the options there. i find i'm so absorbed in the delicious recipes, specially desserts, that i lose interest each time in whatever it was i was wanting.

Chris...

I LOVE to cook. When I divorced, I suffered...because I really DO NOT care for prepackaged foods at ALL. I had to re-learn how to cook for one, without taking my entire evening. I'm getting better at it. Trying to find a balance between cooking reasonably and healthily, but not taking so long it's frustrating.

My problem is...now I'm dating, and OH MY GOSH, it's too easy to overeat when we're together!

Keep up the good work! :)

tish

well, partly, but i'm just amazed how much nicer the home cooked meals i've eaten over the past few days are to take-away foods or to similar meals made using shortcut packets etc. for example i would never bother making my own fried rice thinking it wasn't going to be as good as i'd buy from a chinese take-away restaurant. today though i cooked 'dirty rice' from a recipe i found on Spark People. it used ingredients i already had at home, was quick and simple to prepare, only required one pot, and yet it was way more enjoyable and healthier than the stuff i'd have bought if not for Spark People and my new healthy lifestyle.

i have to admit to becoming a lil slack as far as meal preparation is concerned over the past months and have now rediscovered the joy of cooking something from scratch, which is an unexpected side benefit of wanting to lose the weight i've put on.

just another of the many reasons i love the spark people website.

Chris...

I have to say, that after I start eating healthy, it doesn't take long to really *prefer* the taste of healthy, fresh food. Is that what you mean? :)

today i went to the sports store and bought myself a really good pair of cross trainer shoes, a balance ball and a resistance band. made me feel healthier just knowing i was now committed to using them all. today was my strengthening exercise day, so used my new toys in them, then went for an hour long walk. much easier in good shoes i have to say.

making dirty rice for dinner tonight which ill have with some pita crisps (both recipes are from SP members), with some grapes for dessert. have to say i find im enjoying my meals much more and as an added bonus they're not only good for me but are gonna help me to lose weight.

wondering if everyone else has found the same thing re enjoying meals more...

You are so right, Chris! Deprivation NEVER makes a successful diet...that's for sure! There are "NO" bad foods, just "BAD" amounts! You did well.

Hi all....Nice to see that everyone seems to be on the right track. I had 500 calories left yesterday and didn't quite stay perfect becasue I ate some cake. It was a special occaision thoguh with family here to visit and even though I ate the cake it was a one time thing and today I am back on my plan.
I think to stay on any healthy plan we have to let ourselves have something special once in a while. Since I don't usually eat cake I told myself it was okay and it was .
Now on to eating right again and keeping up with my exercise. I can't wait to get weighed on Wednesday....I can feel that I lost. Normally I would be jumping on the scale all the time but I am trying not to do that now. I also got my board to put my ecouraging pictures on and a book to start journalling. Hope everyone has a wonderful day!!! emoticon

1. sunday is my one 'no exercise' day.
2. meal plan was yummy and no trouble sticking to it.
3. drank my 8 glasses of water easily.
4. even braved the scales for the first time in 11 months! not good news, put on heaps but i'm back on track again now, hopefully never to make the mistake of thinking i can do it myself with no help.
5. feeling good to know i'm making a difference in my life.

Great job, Lei! This last week, I "bootcamped" and burned (really close to) 5000 calories in 5 days. Not trying to keep it up, just trying to give my plan a quick boost. :)

I'm pleased I perservered to the end!

Great job on your daily walking!

:D

I've been sticking to my plan

Exercise 45-60 minutes daily except for my one off day
Stuck to my calorie range except for my one off day
(ate pizza and felt sick all night!)
I've been getting at least 8 hours of sleep each night

I walked three miles on the treadmill
(I'm getting tired of not being able to do any strength training. I think I injured my shoulder and it's just not getting any better)

Stayed within my calorie range
Got almost eight hours of sleep

I walked 4 miles on the bike path at the edge of town through the country side. It was beautiful, peaceful, quiet, sun out, temps in the 50's, and trees getting ready to bloom their new leaves. Just a really nice day.

"A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned - this is the sum of good government."

(This is for yesterday)

I didn't get to walk, but I volunteered at the Women's Shelter, which makes me very happy!

Oh, and I stayed on my food plan (although I didn't get to log it). :)

Hello, team!! HUZZAH!

I thought maybe we might give a...well...ummmm....let's call it an "accountability forum"! A challenge to you to stop in today, tomorrow and EVERYDAY and tell everyone how you did! Did you stay on your food plan? Did you work out today? Did you get your 8 hours sleep and your 8 glasses of water?

Just reply to this post, like such:

1) I met my food goals!
2) I walked for 40 minutes!
3) I drank 8 glasses of water today!

or whatever *positive* thing you can say about your day!

Having to show up and be accountable is a *great* way to keep your motivation up.

I'll be watching for you! :)
