This challenge supposedly ended last week, when I had no time to post my responses. But there has been no new challenge posted in my SparkTeam, so I am treating this one as if it was still open.

Holiday Mantra: Holidays are fun. Getting shape is fun. There is NO reason not to combine the two activities.

emoticon

1) Reviewed trackers and blogs from week 1 on SparkPeople.(10 points)

Yes, I reviewed them. It is very educational to go back and see where I was back then.

2) Made a list of your strengths and weaknesses that you have discovered in your first month here. (10 points)
[Bonus 10 points if you blog your list]

emoticon

STRENGTHS:

a. I am a vegetarian who likes eating a variety of healthy foods, including lots of fruits and vegetables.

b. Given my own inclinations, I don't tend to overeat so long as I stay away from sweets.

c. I enjoy and revel in exercise, especially biking. It is usually not too difficult to get my cardiovascular activity into my day, because I know how good it makes me feel. Weight lifting is equally good for reshaping who I am.

d. I've already come a huge way. I am almost three-quarters of the way to my goal.

e. I am willing to share my success, and have inspired a number of others to begin their own weight loss journeys.

f. I am in this for the long-term. I want life-long health and well-being. I want to avoid all the illnesses and health problems that have plagued my other friends my age. I want to be one of those super-fit seniors that I see jogging along the parkway when I grow up.

emoticon

WEAKNESSES:

a. I really like sweets, and if I don't watch myself I can and do binge on them.

b. The weather is getting colder and it is harder to go out there and jog or bike. I need to figure out how to afford a short-term gym membership, or do a lot of fitness DVDs from the library.

c. I have to watch myself to make sure I get enough calories and protein.

emoticon

3) Weighed the pros and cons of continuing through the holidays instead of starting over in January. (10 points)
[Bonus 10 points if you blog your list]

PROS:

a. I will look HOT in my holiday photos.

b. I will look awesome at holiday parties, wearing tight and cute little dresses.

c. I will feel so much better during the holiday season if I continue to love my body and treat it right.

d. If I continue through the holiday season, I can reap the benefits of good health and lower stress during what is a very stressful time of year.

e. I want to look fabulous in the spring weather. I want to wear mini-skirts, and I don't want to wait to have to do so.

CONS:

There are no real cons to continuing during the holidays, but I do note that I plan to have Christmas and Thanksgiving be mostly off-diet. I will still eat small portions, and eat more of the healthy stuff than the unhealthy stuff, but I will try everything including dessert. Two days off during the holiday season will not kill me, especially if I eat ultra-sensibly and lighter on calories during the rest of the weeks prior to those two days.

emoticon

4) Create a Visual Collage of what motivates you. Base it around a specific goal, mantra, feeling or whatever helps you hang to your determination. (50 points)
[Bonus 50 points if you take a picture of your collage and post it for everyone to see]

This is not a collage so much as a single picture:

[Picture of Senior Woman Jogging -- you can see it in my blog]

This lady is who I want to be, twenty or thirty years from now. I want to be healthy and fit throughout my life from this point forward.

Holiday Mantra: I can do this, even during the holidays!

1) Reviewed trackers and blogs from week 1 on SparkPeople.(10 points) COMPLETE

General: I worked to understand the site and use all the components.

Nutrition: I went over my calories during the first couple of days when I was tracking after eating. Then I started planning my food before eating and have stayed on or below my calories all of the time.

Fitness: I was not doing much/anything for fitness.

Community: I joined 3 teams, but did not contribute much during the first week.

2) Made a list of your strengths and weaknesses that you have discovered in your first month here. (10 points)
[Bonus 10 points if you blog your list]

Strengths:
a. I am very good at planning and tracking my nutrition. I track everything and don't cheat.
b. I am internally competitive with myself, so the challenges work well for me.
c. I like to learn, so all of the articles and blogs are really helpful.

Weaknesses:
a. I find lots of excuses to not exercise or go to the health club.
b. I am a very private person when it comes to my weight, so it was difficult to share info/experiences.
c. I tend to overeat on proteins and undereat on fats.

COMPLETE

3) Weighed the pros and cons of continuing through the holidays instead of starting over in January. (10 points)
[Bonus 10 points if you blog your list]
PROS
a. I won't be 10 or more lbs heavier in January and thus won't have to lose the extra weight.
b. I'll be proud of myself for accomplishing a very difficult task.
c. I'll have lost weight by following my nutrition and exercise plans, so in January I'll be lighter.

CONS
a. I'll miss out on all the wonderful food that is present at every party, etc. during the holidays
b. I'll miss out on eating some of the cookies I bake for others at Christmas.

COMPLETE

Hi Cookiedog, I was actually thinking about all these factors when your challenge came up! It must be that 1 month date in all our minds!! I've made a start and I hope to add to the challenge as the week goes on.
