W – Walk, run, and just get up and move
*** The only way we’re going to shed those pounds is to take action. This means we have to get our heart rate up and keep it there for at least 20 minutes. You will earn 100 points for the first 20 minutes of cardio each day. All additional cardio minutes will earn you 1 point each. The time you spend doing strength training should not be added into this portion.
*** Strength training helps boost your metabolism while strengthening your muscles. If you complete at least 5 different strength training moves (2 sets with at least 15 reps per set), you will earn 50 points.
*** There is a catch – If you do not complete cardio and/or strength training at least 5 days (since it’s a longer week), you will not earn any of your points for this section. And don’t forget, both your cardio and ST must be listed in your fitness tracker.

O – Out with the bad and in with the good
*** Forget about those foods that are full of fat and sugar and get in the stuff that’s good for you. Your goal is to eat at least 3 servings of fruits and vegetables each day. List them in your Food Tracker (and make sure your tracker is visible),and you will earn 25 points for each day you succeed.

R – Rehydrate
*** One of the best ways to flush your system out is to drink at least 8-8 oz glasses of water everyday. If you’re just now getting into this habit, prepare for extra bathroom breaks as your body adjusts to the change in liquid intake. I highly recommend grabbing a reusable bottle that holds at least 16 oz and take it with you everywhere. You’ll be amazed at how much easier it is to get the water in when you have it right there on hand at all times. Each day that you get in your 64 oz, you will earn 25 points. And don’t forget, the only thing you can add to your water and still have it count here is a splash of citrus juice.

K – Keep up posted
*** Your teammates love to hear about your day and how it went. It’s amazing how reading about someone else’s day can help keep you motivated, especially if their day was successful. For each day that you post a daily blog, you will earn 25 points.
Don’t forget that on Friday (the 9th) or Saturday (the 10th) you are required to post a Weekly Update Blog. This blog must include a recap of your week, including strengths and weaknesses, as well as what you want to focus on in the coming week. The WUB is worth 100 points rather than the 25… you will either earn it or lose it (see note above).

INDIVIDUAL BONUS
*** If you take at least 15 minutes each day for yourself to relax and clear your head by doing a non-fitness activity, you will earn 50 points. Post what you did each day on your challenge tracker.

W – Walk, run, and just get up and move
*** The only way we’re going to shed those pounds is to take action. This means we have to get our heart rate up and keep it there for at least 20 minutes. You will earn 100 points for the first 20 minutes of cardio each day. All additional cardio minutes will earn you 1 point each. The time you spend doing strength training should not be added into this portion.
*** Strength training helps boost your metabolism while strengthening your muscles. If you complete at least 5 different strength training moves (2 sets with at least 15 reps per set), you will earn 50 points.
*** There is a catch – If you do not complete cardio and/or strength training at least 5 days (since it’s a longer week), you will not earn any of your points for this section. And don’t forget, both your cardio and ST must be listed in your fitness tracker.

O – Out with the bad and in with the good
*** Forget about those foods that are full of fat and sugar and get in the stuff that’s good for you. Your goal is to eat at least 3 servings of fruits and vegetables each day. List them in your Food Tracker (and make sure your tracker is visible),and you will earn 25 points for each day you succeed.

R – Rehydrate
*** One of the best ways to flush your system out is to drink at least 8-8 oz glasses of water everyday. If you’re just now getting into this habit, prepare for extra bathroom breaks as your body adjusts to the change in liquid intake. I highly recommend grabbing a reusable bottle that holds at least 16 oz and take it with you everywhere. You’ll be amazed at how much easier it is to get the water in when you have it right there on hand at all times. Each day that you get in your 64 oz, you will earn 25 points. And don’t forget, the only thing you can add to your water and still have it count here is a splash of citrus juice.

K – Keep up posted
*** Your teammates love to hear about your day and how it went. It’s amazing how reading about someone else’s day can help keep you motivated, especially if their day was successful. For each day that you post a daily blog, you will earn 25 points.
Don’t forget that on Friday (the 9th) or Saturday (the 10th) you are required to post a Weekly Update Blog. This blog must include a recap of your week, including strengths and weaknesses, as well as what you want to focus on in the coming week. The WUB is worth 100 points rather than the 25… you will either earn it or lose it (see note above).

INDIVIDUAL BONUS
*** If you take at least 15 minutes each day for yourself to relax and clear your head by doing a non-fitness activity, you will earn 50 points. Post what you did each day on your challenge tracker.

W – Walk, run, and just get up and move
*** The only way we’re going to shed those pounds is to take action. This means we have to get our heart rate up and keep it there for at least 20 minutes. You will earn 100 points for the first 20 minutes of cardio each day. All additional cardio minutes will earn you 1 point each. The time you spend doing strength training should not be added into this portion.
*** Strength training helps boost your metabolism while strengthening your muscles. If you complete at least 5 different strength training moves (2 sets with at least 15 reps per set), you will earn 50 points.
*** There is a catch – If you do not complete cardio and/or strength training at least 5 days (since it’s a longer week), you will not earn any of your points for this section. And don’t forget, both your cardio and ST must be listed in your fitness tracker.

O – Out with the bad and in with the good
*** Forget about those foods that are full of fat and sugar and get in the stuff that’s good for you. Your goal is to eat at least 3 servings of fruits and vegetables each day. List them in your Food Tracker (and make sure your tracker is visible),and you will earn 25 points for each day you succeed.

R – Rehydrate
*** One of the best ways to flush your system out is to drink at least 8-8 oz glasses of water everyday. If you’re just now getting into this habit, prepare for extra bathroom breaks as your body adjusts to the change in liquid intake. I highly recommend grabbing a reusable bottle that holds at least 16 oz and take it with you everywhere. You’ll be amazed at how much easier it is to get the water in when you have it right there on hand at all times. Each day that you get in your 64 oz, you will earn 25 points. And don’t forget, the only thing you can add to your water and still have it count here is a splash of citrus juice.

K – Keep up posted
*** Your teammates love to hear about your day and how it went. It’s amazing how reading about someone else’s day can help keep you motivated, especially if their day was successful. For each day that you post a daily blog, you will earn 25 points.
Don’t forget that on Friday (the 9th) or Saturday (the 10th) you are required to post a Weekly Update Blog. This blog must include a recap of your week, including strengths and weaknesses, as well as what you want to focus on in the coming week. The WUB is worth 100 points rather than the 25… you will either earn it or lose it (see note above).

INDIVIDUAL BONUS
*** If you take at least 15 minutes each day for yourself to relax and clear your head by doing a non-fitness activity, you will earn 50 points. Post what you did each day on your challenge tracker.

*** One of the best ways to flush your system out is to drink at least 8-8 oz glasses of water everyday. If you’re just now getting into this habit, prepare for extra bathroom breaks as your body adjusts to the change in liquid intake. I highly recommend grabbing a reusable bottle that holds at least 16 oz and take it with you everywhere. You’ll be amazed at how much easier it is to get the water in when you have it right there on hand at all times. Each day that you get in your 64 oz, you will earn 25 points. And don’t forget, the only thing you can add to your water and still have it count here is a splash of citrus juice.

Welcome to a new week, a new month, and a new challenge! The M2W Fall Challenges are going to focus more on getting healthy than anything else. There will be bonus portions for things like blogging and family time periodically, but the majority of the challenge will be focused on where we all need to have it – on losing the weight! Before we get to the challenge for Week 1, there are some things I need to point out.

First off, yoga and pilates will not count as cardio and/or strength training. According to SP, as well as many other sites where I’ve looked into this, there are only two types of yoga that are even considered legitimate cardio. In order to keep this simple, no yoga will count as cardio. Both yoga and pilates focus on stretching your muscles and getting your body and mind relaxed and in balance. If you list them as cardio or strength they will not count in the tallying of points. In addition, as stated in the rules, all cardio must be deliberate. Workouts you get in as part of your job or everyday routine will not count. Whether you are on your feet all day long and moving as a postal carrier, fitness instructor, or a mom chasing a toddler around while cleaning house, it doesn’t matter. You have to make an effort during your free time to lose the weight in order for the minutes to count – and make sure you both list them in your fitness tracker and on your challenge post. Please keep the description on your challenge post brief.

Second, we are all here to get ourselves healthier. That starts by getting off our booties and getting moving. The fall weather will soon be upon us, allowing many of us to get outdoors for fitness again. YAY! If you aren’t going to willingly do cardio and/or strength training at least 3 days each week, please let me know now. That will be a requirement for this set of challenges. If something happens medically that prevents you from being able to work out at least 3 days a week, please let me know and we’ll make other arrangements at that time based on the circumstances. With kids going back to school, I understand there will be illnesses going around within our families and that makes exercising difficult. Those are the kinds of things that will be worked around.

Third, please stick to the format provided when posting points. The days are already broken up on the layout I provide so please don’t break it up even more. When posting the challenge and tracking form, I do so in a specific order and layout for a reason – to make it go more smoothly as I’m updating points to the team spreadsheet. Adding additional spaces between lines and days makes it more difficult to get the points updated and thus makes it take longer for me to get the standings posted for you.

Last, the Weekly Update Blog is not optional, it is a requirement. The information was stated in the rules that you agreed to by signing up for the challenge. Failure to post a Weekly Update Blog once during the month will result in a 100 point deduction for you (and in turn, for your team). Failure to post a Weekly Update Blog twice during a month will result in elimination from the challenge for the remainder of the month. Failure to be eliminated from a challenge two months in a row will mean that you may not participate as a member of our veggie teams during the third month. Things are going to happen and you may forget. Please make a reminder for yourself in some way so that you are not eliminated unnecessarily.

Now that the not-so-fun stuff is out of the way, let’s get to the challenge. Week 1 will run Thursday, September 1st through Saturday, September 10th. There isn’t much point in writing a challenge that will only last 3 days so the first week will be a long one. No Weekly Update Blog will be required until the 9th or 10th. This week we are going to WORK hard for our points.

emoticon W – Walk, run, and just get up and move
*** The only way we’re going to shed those pounds is to take action. This means we have to get our heart rate up and keep it there for at least 20 minutes. You will earn 100 points for the first 20 minutes of cardio each day. All additional cardio minutes will earn you 1 point each. The time you spend doing strength training should not be added into this portion.
*** Strength training helps boost your metabolism while strengthening your muscles. If you complete at least 5 different strength training moves (2 sets with at least 15 reps per set), you will earn 50 points.
*** There is a catch – If you do not complete cardio and/or strength training at least 5 days (since it’s a longer week), you will not earn any of your points for this section. And don’t forget, both your cardio and ST must be listed in your fitness tracker.

emoticon O – Out with the bad and in with the good
*** Forget about those foods that are full of fat and sugar and get in the stuff that’s good for you. Your goal is to eat at least 3 servings of fruits and vegetables each day. List them in your Food Tracker (and make sure your tracker is visible),and you will earn 25 points for each day you succeed.

emoticon R – Rehydrate
*** One of the best ways to flush your system out is to drink at least 8-8 oz glasses of water everyday. If you’re just now getting into this habit, prepare for extra bathroom breaks as your body adjusts to the change in liquid intake. I highly recommend grabbing a reusable bottle that holds at least 16 oz and take it with you everywhere. You’ll be amazed at how much easier it is to get the water in when you have it right there on hand at all times. Each day that you get in your 64 oz, you will earn 25 points. And don’t forget, the only thing you can add to your water and still have it count here is a splash of citrus juice.

emoticon K – Keep up posted
*** Your teammates love to hear about your day and how it went. It’s amazing how reading about someone else’s day can help keep you motivated, especially if their day was successful. For each day that you post a daily blog, you will earn 25 points.
Don’t forget that on Friday (the 9th) or Saturday (the 10th) you are required to post a Weekly Update Blog. This blog must include a recap of your week, including strengths and weaknesses, as well as what you want to focus on in the coming week. The WUB is worth 100 points rather than the 25… you will either earn it or lose it (see note above).

*** If you take at least 15 minutes each day for yourself to relax and clear your head by doing a non-fitness activity, you will earn 50 points. Post what you did each day on your challenge tracker.
