I like your response.I am also striving to learn new things. If you need help in understanding something, let me know.We could both learn from each other.

► Is the brain and intelligence one and the same thing, or seperate things?

SEPERATE - though related:
As I understand it, intelligence is about how fast information is processed in the brain, how quickly memory is accessed, how quickly lateral relationships are made, how fast new concepts are understood...

► Which is more important to the development of the intelligence, heredity, or the environment, or is it both or something else?

BOTH
I believe you inherit almost all of your frontal lobe (cognitive ability) from your mother, and most of your base instincts (sex drive, survival...:core brain) from your father, and the rest is a mixture.

But, using a computer analogy, even given the box to start with, it gets calibrated to the appropriate format depending on the initial conditions - feed it lots of information, it'll grow lots of connections to deal with the load; don't feed it, it cuts back on the standard (inherited) number of connections because the body seeks efficiency - gets rid of what it's not going to use.... SO..... a POTENTIALLY bright child not given an appropriate education, can become a relative dullard and a child with a low starting point has the ability to become outstanding at learning/understanding, IF they're stimulated enough. I believe around the first year is crucial, but recent research regarding brain plascity means that we're NEVER too old to change!

► What is the brain?
An electro-chemical network.

The above is ONLY an interested lay understanding - I'm into maths and have no formal physiological training, so please clear-up any flaws in my understanding. I hate being wrong, so continually strive to learn what's right!

The human brain has been the subject of scientific study, and some of its functions remains a mystery. Is the brain and intelligence one and the same thing, or seperate things?Which is more important to the development of the intelligence, heredity, or the environment, or is it both or something else?
What is the brain?
The Central Nervous System is divided into two parts-a group of nerve cells inside the head and a group of nerve cells inside the spinal cord.
The brain(under the skull) resembles a shelled walnut, only softer. The brain is composed of two major sections, the left and right cerebal hemisphere. Each hemisphere contains; the frontal lobe, the parietal lobe, the occipital lobe, and the temporal lobe. Also there are three fissures;the Longituclined fissure, sylvian fissure, and the ontral sulcus.
The brain function-the nervous system is composed of ther spinal cord, the brain stem,(which includes the medulla, pons, midbrain, and diencephalon), the cerebellum.
The fundemental block is the neuron(a nerve sell), and the communication within the brain is electrochemical. The link between the nerve cells is the synapse.
