I really don't know what triggers the night sweats for me. I have been craving sweets a lot lately, and am late with my period (negative pregnancy test), first time I'm this late. I still feel like I'm having my usual PMS issues, just for a prolonged period of time. It's very hard to control the munchies.

Mom of Six, I have to answer that same questionaire! I always put yes, but write in "perimenopause" next to it. LOL!! I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't even look at it!

I've been paying attention to what my triggers are and I found out just being horizontal does it for me. emoticon (that's a hotflash) emoticon

Interesting to read all the threads here. I suffer terribly too with the night sweats. Funny thing: at work I have to answer a tuberculosis questionaire annually. Since I take hydrocortisone daily, they don't give me the usual TB test. One of the questions is: Do you have night sweats? I answer "no" since my night sweats have to do with perimenopause, but I hate that question every year. I'm 44, yes, I have night sweats.

OH yeah Elisa is full of information. HRT is out, too much breast cancer in my family. But it is getting cold at night (16* last night) so that makes them "waves of warmth" rather than hot flashes LOL!

Dear Debby,
There are lot's of things to try but some are expensive, some require doctor's prescriptions, and the most common Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) have some risks you may not want to take. I would start with your Dr. or nurse practitioner. There are some good resources on SP. I suggest you send a Sparkmail to Elisadenk as she has been tracking alot of it.
Good luck.

I've heard that drinking water almost instantly stops them; have not tried that yet since I don't really have them badly yet (may be I'll be spared; my mother said she had no hot flashes at all! Lucky her). emoticon

Not sure what triggers mine, but I was told to put peppermint oil (pure oil not extract) behind my ears. Haven't tried it yet I need to get some more but I will.

Not everyone has a trigger, just as those who do don't all have the same one(s).

I have noticed a link with sugar and salt giving me night sweats. I would also add stress!

Reserves cupboard to be cleared then.
It is when I add sugar that I notice it.
Not the normal in my meals stuff. But when I nibble for the world

Hi RENEWNAN, and welcome to the team:)

And yes sugar can cause added night sweats, so can other foods.

Eating meat can also cause it as well as does caffeine I know sorry to say that caffeine does it also.

I've had some women tell me that there not giving up caffeine just to reduce there night sweats.
So I guess it just depends on what your really willing to give up to have a restful nights sleep:)

I definitely find that they're worse if I eat, and especially if I overeat, sugar.

Just seems to be that at a certain time of the month I want to eat for the world and if I do I sweat like nothing else

WELCOME TO THE TEAM Renewnan!

Just living causes night sweats for me. I have tried everything (except HRT - too much breast cancer in my family), but I try to go through it with a sense of humor.

It will be interesting to see what everyone one has noticed about triggers.

Does anyone else think there are things they do, or eat which trigger night sweats?

I am beginning to wonder if perhaps to much sugar intake causes mine.
When I have a bad bout of the nibbles, sweet stuff of course, I seem to have a rather uncomfortable, sweaty night.

Thanks for your comments in advance
