I meant in your age bracket not overall. Congratulations it was a great accomplishment, especially since you could still run today.
My son runs between 3 and 7 miles just about every day. Hasn't got a job yet so can't afford to enter the big challenges, but i appreciate everyone who runs, no matter at what pace. I was cheering around 1 PM, so the majority had passed long before. There was a steady stream of determined men and women still going past and those are the people I cheered on.

I wasn't in the top 5; I was 75th overall and 3rd in my age group. Technically, I finished ahead of everyone older than me, as the first two in the age group were listed at 57 and 55, while I'm 58. But there was a 66 year old 7 seconds behind me.

Still, the important achievement is that I'm not beat up and I can run a few easy miles today.

Now I'm thinking in terms of the recently announced Winter Warriors half on January 10.

I wondered how you'd do when I watched the marathon last Sunday. I ushered at Hochstein and could not get anywhere near it. I was early and stood and cheered on a lot of people on Plymouth Ave. I hope you were one of them. Good job finishing in the top 5.

I ran the half faster than I intended, but still 5 minutes off my Flower City pace. I was third in the age group, not bad for having to back off a bit on the last 3 miles because of the recovering foot.

I expect I'll be able to run the Finish Strong 15K in October as a race.

No, there will be no PR. The time to beat is 1:32:20, which is my Flower City chip time. It would be really, really stupid of me to try to run that fast at this point, particularly without a full training schedule leading up to the date.

At this point, I'm happy to be running four days a week. I don't want to put myself back on the injured reserve list. No PR is that important.

There is an off chance that I could place in my age group, if all the serious runners are in the full marathon.

Moby I was thinking of you last week when my son, who moved home from North Carolina a few weeks ago, starting running in 5K races. I never knew there were so many 5K races in Rochester.
I'm glad your stress fracture has healed. Good luck in the half marathon, and don't be so quick to dismiss a personal best score. You can do it!

12 days to the Rochester Marathon. I've had the stress fracture, spent 3 weeks in an air cast, spent more time worrying about re-injuring the foot, and started easing back into running on July 23.

At this time, it looks like I'll be able to run the Rochester Half Marathon. I won't turn in a PR. I will mostly hang with the 1:45 pace group; if things go exceedingly well, I might leave them about mile 10 and try to finish in 1:42 or so. That shouldn't be good enough to place in my age group, but at least I'll salvage a nice run out of the entry fee I paid for the marathon.

it's summer. Penfield fitness has half off summer membership. They've got lots of things to do that would spare your leg but keep up the fitness. In fact there are lots of cheap fitness clubs out there with machines. Mentioned Penfield fitness because they've got a trainer there who works at Star physical therapy. He's the greatest. You'd be set.

Yeah, I'm working on patience. Last Tuesday, the x-ray came back with a reading of probable stress fracture. Tomorrow I see a podiatrist and find out what I need to do about it. I'll talk about how long it will take, and how and when to come back; but my expectation is that I'll get confirmation that I can't participate in the 2014 Rochester Marathon. I won't be surprised if the verdict is I shouldn't even train for a half that soon.

Just have to see what the doctor says, and follow his advice.

Kevin I learned the hard way that you really do have to listen to the doctors and let your body recover properly before training again. Hope your injuries heal quickly and completely!

ugh. That's a shame. But it's only this year. Keep on training and there will be others. Probably more "others" than you're even interested in.

Dahlia,

A routine 4.6 mile tempo run aggravated an old foot injury on 5/15/ Since then, I've managed to do something dumb and set recovery back a couple of times. I won't be running the Corporate Challenge on Thursday, and being able to run for the start of HFM training on June 12 is in doubt.

Such is life. I'm becoming accustomed to thinking of summer as time to be on injured reserve. :(

Live and Moby,
I am going to have to go watch that race since now I know of at least three people in addition to my niece, who are going to run.
Moby, what did you do to your ankle? Did you post it and I missed seeing it?
Does physical therapy work? Do you have a sturdy ankle brace or would that put too much strain on your calf?

Good to see someone else is doing this! I had been thinking I was the only runner in Rochester who is also on SparkPeople.

I want to run the Rochester Marathon, but right now I have a scare with a bad foot. If all goes well, I start marathon training on June 12; if the foot keeps me from running longer than that, i don't know how I'll adapt. Trading down to the half isn't much of an option if I can't run enough to train for the 13.1 mile distance.

Hubby and I did the half marathon last year and will do the same this year! We didn't do great, but did finish in 2 hours and 44 minutes. This year we are shooting for 2 hours and 30 minutes. Obviously we don't run the whole thing! Last year we had to walk mile 10 in it's entirety, but this year I'll be in better shape and won't have to walk that one! Hubby just kind of goes along with whatever I do, but I think he could run alot more of the race than I could ever imagine doing!

Settling into a running routine between the half and the start of marathon training. Spoke with the coaches, and will be holding the long runs to 10 miles until formal training starts.

I'm going to trust the program here. The same folks got me to Flower City in good shape, which proved their advice is worth following.

I have been watching someone I know, who is training for a triathalon. In fact it is her third year in a row. Not sure what state it is in but the family centers its vacation around whatever the triathalon is. I am so proud of her. I do what I can but I could never achieve what both of you can do. emoticon

Sunday, September 21, 2014. The marathon starts at 7:30, the half starts at 7:45.

The marathon course runs from the city down East Ave and Fairport Road to the village of Fairport, then along the Erie Canal Trail back to Genesee Valley Park, and back north on the Riverway Trail to the Ford Street Bridge before finishing on Exchange Street and State Street.

I've signed up for training to do the marathon. Haven't registered for the actual race yet, but will do so soon.
