I have always been an animal lover. Just lost a 14 year old lab mix (my first born since I was married)and a 7 year old African Sulcata tortoise.

Currently have 4 cats, 2 dogs, 3 hens, 6 chicks, 1 bunny, 3 goats and 1 small pony....and a partridge in a pear tree (just kidding about the partridge).

When you are interested in something, you do it only when it's convenient. When you are COMMITTED to something, you accept no excuses, only results.

I do not have a pet at this time, I always had dogs while my son was growing up, all kinds pugs to boxers, and we loved them all, about 3 years ago, one of my dogs died, and I decided not to replace him, and I found that I just didn't seem to have time for the lone one, I of course fed her and bathed her, but not the attention she was used to, from me or the other dog, I came home from work one day, and she was sick, and dies before morning, I think from being ignored, so, I do plan on having a dog again, but only when I can have him in the house, and pay attention to it, well, if it is in the house, there is no way, I can ignore about it.

Family pets have always been a big plus for me. I grew up with dogs because my mother had allergies that happily went away when she had eye surgery. Were they really allergies I wonder? Well, anyway, it made us happy to have cats and dogs after that.
Currently we have a dog, Libby, who will be 12 years old in September. She is allergic to so much stuff that she is nearly a vegetarian! She can eat pork but no other meat, eats prescription dog food, takes meds twice a day, just survived liver cancer surgery in March and has had 2 knee operations! We love her dearly. Our cat Nutmeg is much less costly, eats only her cat food, has no interest in "people food" and will allow us to pet her when she wants attention. :~) We love her too.
As for pet sitters, we have had a few and have been very lucky with all but one. We take the dog with us whenever possible but the cat doesnot like riding in the car at all. *S*

Live Well, Laugh Often, Love Much.

I want to be an outrageous old woman, who never gets called an old lady. I want to become leaner and meaner, sharp edged and earth colored, till I just fade away from pure joy!

My family memebrs are dog people due to cat allergies by my DH and my yougest daughter. Currently we have one min-doxie, Madeline Suzanne, or Maddie. When she was a puppy she was naughty that is why I gave her a middle name. The kids were called by their middle names,so it was the same for Maddie Sue. She is getting older now and can't go with us when we move, so she'll go back to her original owner, our daughter in Texas. Maddie is a great mouser and weighs all of six pounds of smooth, silky black hair.
We also had Milo and he died in the Fall. He was our heftier version of a doxie and weighed 20 pounds. We do miss his steady companionship still.

And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father. Colossians 3:17

I am not a true 'pet' person. I had no pets growing up; we lived in town and my mother didn't like cats and dogs. She tried to accomodate my desire for a cat a few times but there was always some demise that happened and there they were: gone. (I think now that I took in strays and wanderers that weren't inclined to last long anywhere.)

When I married my DH some 35+ years ago I married into a pet (d0og) family. This is the first time in his life that he has been without a dog. We always lived on a ranch so the dogs we had were able to be outside (mostly) and run free. We always had 1+ ranch dogs and then a specific breed dog pet that was my DH's. He has had mostly boxers but also had a dalmatian and a poodle (from his childhood).

We moved to the Black Hills 5+ years ago with our boxer Zipper. Upon arrival to our 10 acres we learned that she was deaf. Due to that and the fact that a neighbor had a couple of traveling male dogs and the fact we have an abundance of mountain lions and my DH and I both work Mon-Fri, we had to keep her confined. She developed an inoperable tumor and we had to put her down just over 4 years ago. She was the love of our lives and our oldest granddaughters true love.

We are continually on the go and we both still work so we have opted not to have a dog until we land in the nursing home. I then hope to get a 'lap' dog in the persona of a miniature beagle.

I could write a book on the adventures and misadventures of our lives with pets! I miss her every day; as does my DH. This is the first time in his 50+ years that he has been without a dog.

For those of you that have dogs if you ever get a chance to read the "Hank, The Cow Dog" series please do so. It is a series of books for young readers. My DH is a SPED teacher and has used these books as applicable for some of his students. My DH, myself and our two 'then teenage' sons read the entire series. They are hysterical! I am buying them for our granddaughters who live on a ranch.

This post has been a bit long but filled with love!

My only pet is Sox, a grey tuxedo cat who owns ME. She started out her life nearly 13 years ago in a dumpster (or maybe just AROUND a dumpster) when my ex brought her home after an AA meeting until he found a home for her. I immediately fell in love with her.

At this moment, she's lying in what I call her "Penthouse" which is the bottom of a new micro-ave 'box.' As soon as I placed it on the floor, she claimed it. I may have to paint the walls and hang curtains. LOL

What a great question ! AS the wife of a veterinarian, needless to say our home is always filled with multiple animals in our family ! Currently we live with 4 cats of various ages and one dog, who is getting up in age herself.....we adopted all of them....most were former patients that the owners gave up for various reasons...but we fell in love with them and filled our home with their love ! emoticon emoticon

I have 4 parrots, or should I say they have us ... that's certainly their opinion anyway!

I have 2 cockatiels (normal grey male and lutino female). They don't talk but the male whistles. I get a real kick out of that wolf whistle when I stumble into the kitchen in the morning, bed-head and all emoticon

Our African Grey, Timneh, is called Kym (pronounced Kim but Mr. T got creative with the spelling). She has a huge vocabulary of sounds (microwave, telephone, noseblowing, coughing - my word can that bird cough when she wants to ... and speaks in sentences. She'll ask "were you talking to meeeee", "what are you doing?" (at which point I have this compulsion to answer her). As soon as she hears the car or the door open she starts to call "hello birdie - you're home!!!" and she has a very loud voice ... no sneaking in at our house. She presents a rather unique challenge as far as pets go and that is that she is very likely to outlive us both (her species can live to be 65-70, and she's only 12). We've had to set guardianship up for her should anything happen to us. Thankfully that's not a problem - both my son and daughter want her (now THAT could be a problem!)

And last but not least is my wonderful, sweet little Tuffy. He doesn't say people words but he speaks lovebird (he is one), cockatiel, and some African Grey (her natural sounds). He doesn't need to speak though ... he communicates his needs and wants (read-demands) very clearly as it is. He's my favourite and one of the lights of my life. I even took his name emoticon

My youngest "son" is a mostly Beagle named Sparky. He's seven years old. He is a character! He tries to run the show, and I'm trying to run him. Nobody ever told him that he's not in charge...

Somedays I really think that he's on the verge of being able to talk.

I wish I had a pet-sitter like you in our neighborhood! Our pet is our three year old puggle called Nellie. She is my first dog and I am still is a state of wonder on a daily basis. I could go on and on but since you mention the tail I will just say the communication she has with us is amazing! Once you learn to read that tail you discover quite a complex vocabulary. I love her dearly and she is very much a part of my healthy lifestyle.

Our baby is a lab/pointer mix who is 12 years old named Sadie. She rules the house for sure. She is developing a few medical problems so we really spoil her now.

I love cats too, but in the last several years I have become allergic to them. (Eyes water, and itch then swell and I sneeze like crazy) so we no longer have any cats around. Too bad because they make good mousers out here in the country.

I go by the name of PJ and live north of KC, MO. Winter in East Texas.

DH & I got married about 14 years ago and we decided we were too old for kids together, so we adopted a little dog instead, We had a little Yorkie for about 12 years who passed away last fall (he was 17 or 18) and just couldn't go too long without another baby in our lives. About 2 months ago we got a 2 year old Shihtzu that is crazy. He loves to play, have attention, jump on furniture and chew on shoes, (goodbye black leather sandals) go for walks, and is so fun. Just loves you no matter what.

We also have Gus, the tarantula, but he can't really count as a pet. He lives in an big fish bowl (no, he can't get out) and the grandkids like to watch him, but first good weather it's time for him to go live back in the wild!

I too have a Sophie - a standard poodle. We also have a cat, Hinge, named for the noise she makes. My daughter has five rats - they're all very sweet but I always manage to have one favorite. That is, there's usually one of the rats who takes a fancy to me. Right now it's Olive.
My daughter is enrolled in a vet tech training program that will give her an Associates Degree and she will be a registered vet tech. She's fostered a couple of animals, most recently yesterday when there was a bomb scare at school and each student took home an animal. We hosted Scruffy, some sort of wire-haired mutt, who had a wonderful time playing with Sophie.

The DH came with a cat. He's not bad other than he was played with rough so he thinks clawing and biting is part of the process. No thanks! Of course my pet peeve is the hair. I can't keep up with it and it tends to make me a big nuts. Otherwise, no other pets. Had dogs in the past and love them but not home enough to warrant having one. They need attention we're unable to provide. Maybe someday for Ava. :o)

My dog was originally intended to be my son's dog. He loves dogs and has had two or three. The dog lives at my house and is my dog although some children feel the dog is theirs.

She is my walking companion and my companion in general since my children are gone from the home. She is sitting in the doorway waiting for our walk.

My daughter takes her for a "sleepover" at times, but the dog really prefers to be home but she likes to explore another home for a while.

I have thought when she is gone that I will not get another dog, but don't know if I can live without an animal in the house. My poor dog is gray and getting old. We don't have a lot of years left and the thought of being without "someone" is difficult.

I have 3 cats and couldn't imagine life without any 1 of them. Altho that could happen at any time. My female Zoe will be 19 this summer. My next cat is a male, Zane Grey and he is 17. Almost had to put him down in March but he is doing quite well now (thank you God)! And then there is my baby Shai'tan who is 10. He is "my big fat boy".

What is a home without animals? Lonely around here. I do understand that not all people can have or want pets, but not around this place.

We have a standard black poodle, she is mine, a boxer, she is supposed to belong to the boy, but she is mine, and 3 Siamese cats who belong to whoever their favorite person is at any given moment. They sit high and watch the dogs from above with a look of total disgust on their faces. You know they know they are tooooo good for those lowly dirty dogs.

Fortunately when we travel we don't have to hire a sitter, because we have family close by that helps us out in this area.

I love animals too but my husband doesn't care for cats. I have had all types of animals all my life from cats, dogs, and birds. I have 3 dogs 1 inside and 2 outside, and 3 cockatiels. I had 5 cockatiels I gave one to a nurse we used to had and one died. We are always taking in strays.

We do not have a pet at this time. Years ago we adopted a shanoodle. She was the cutest dog and we loved her and spoiled her terribly. I took her to the groomer who also dog-sat when I had to be gone. She died over 10 years ago now due to kidney problems. I still miss her and one of these days I'll have another. But right now DH and I are on the go too much.

I have my 7 year old lab Abigail, which has one of those tails that are weapons when she's happy LOL. She's my baby and my pal. I've had dogs in the past before her, and each has been special. I would love to have a cat too, but one of my daughters is allergic to cats and although she doesn't live with me she's over here quite a bit and I don't want her to be miserable.

Luckily I have family who can sit my dog when I'm out of town, but not everyone has that resource and the service you provide is truly a wonderful one.

I have an incredible cat sitter: Bonnie of Paws Watch. I've used her for about 9 years now.

You give a very valuable service. My cats don't even act as though I've been gone because of Bonnie. And, I always give Bonnie a nice tip. She's worth it.

I have lots of adopted animals at my clients homes. They think I come over to their home to play with them and give them treats. LOL

I also cannot have dogs. Not only would my cats be in a constant hissy fit but by landlord won't allow dogs.

I have 3 felines: 1 male:Buddy-Buddie 2 femals: Sophie and Little Fritzi. They are my loves.

I have mentioned before that I have my own business. "PetPal" I have operated it for the last 10 years or so and it keeps me healthy. I have about 20 regular clients, about 3 to 4 a day. To be clear, it is a pet-sitting and dog walking business. Very simple to operate and I get lots of extras beyond my pay.

Of course I love cats and for some dern reason my cats will not let me have any dogs at home. Can't understand why not! But they rule my roost. I missed my dog terribly and decided that I'd share my love with other peoples animals. It's been a complete success from the word go.

My fee is large enough to pay for expenses:gas and dog treats, and a little extra for spending money. My dh left me in a very good shape financially so I don't really have to work. I simply love to do what I do.

Dogs are so expressive with their tails. Some of my "clients" have very strong tails and many a time I have come home with sore legs. LOL Another reason I love my business so is the exercise! Yes, there are bad weather days, but there are many great walking days too.

My cat clients are pretty easy to care for. They want a scratch behind the ear, a couple of specific type of cat treat-depending on the cat client-and their chow bowl and water kept high. Other than that they fend for themselves.

I've never offended my bunch at home with my business. They do give me several minutes of smelling at times. You know the kind: with the mouth open, LOL.

I also have never had an animal die in my care. Perhaps that is why I am in demand.

One of the best parts of my clients is they always tell it like it is. They never pretend to be your friend and bite you in the buttisimo. I truly wish my human "friends" would be this way. The complexities of being at the top of the food chain I guess.

Animals I believe are our biggest healers. They love you unconditionally and request very little in return.

How many animals do you have in your life?

If you can't stand the heat, get your head out of the oven!

Stop whining and start winning.

Stop complaining and start loving.
