I have found that taking the natural supplement MELATONIN has helped me when I cannot sleep. It dissolves under your tongue and typically and are asleep within a half hour. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about it.
One thing I do that has worked for me as a Christian is to open my Hymn book and sing a Hymn out loud before I close my eyes to sleep.

My sleeping is off the wall there are days like last night that I do not sleep at all because I am flat out not tired and can not get to sleep, then there are days that I sleep for 14+ hours because I am way over tired. My main reason my sleeping is so off is because I am a night owl and can't get to sleep till midnight most night which is ok if I do not work in the morning but if I work then it sucks because my alarm goes off at 4 so I get very little sleep. Most weeks that is ok because I only work 1-2 days but some weeks it sucks because I if I work 6 of the 7 days I am exhausted by the end of the 3rd 12 hour shift and can't get cought up usally till the next week. There is not a whole lot I can do about it other then find a job that is 3rd shift or has more of a set schedual then what I have.

If you find that you are overtired, perhaps you should talk to your doctor. There can be many reasons that people feel tired all the time. I know, because I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Insomnia, Low Thyroid and if my iron levels are low I am even more tired. I take a natural supplement called Melatonin to help me sleep and it has no side effects etc. But I am going to suggest, if you haven't yet done so, to have a chat with your doctor and see if perhaps a sleep study would find out why you are so tired. Your stress MANAGEment technique is a great one. I noticed my spelling mistake in the title too late to fix it :)

For Thursday my parents are coming for a visit which can be stressful depending on their moods. I typically use my Mindfulness training to remain positive and do my deep breathing; things they won't notice me doing. And seeing as I will be in the back seat, I can also doodle in a notebook while they talk up front - but that is only if they are not in a good mood. I think they will be fine and we will have a lot of laughs!

My choice is walk away from the situation for a few minutes and try again fresh. Or sleep which ever works best. Most of the time I am stressed because I am over tired.

If we plan ahead for the stressful moments that inevitably come our way on a daily basis, we will be less set back by it and have on hand some ideas on how to de-stress.
So pick 2 or 3 ideas and post them so that you are prepared should your stress level rise for one reason or another.

Some ideas include:
Deep breathing - in through the nose, out through the mouth for 5 minutes
Go for a quick walk
Take 5 minutes to meditate or pray
Call a friend or a crisis line
Write it out in a journal or notebook
If you sit at a desk, try some stretches
Listen to some relaxing music

So, what will you do today to manage your stress?
