There are so many Christians struggling today, hurting, physically needing surgery or better medical care and so many are having their faith shaken. It is very hard to watch these people. And we know that others who do not believe have stress too, but it may not seem like it. I pray for them. But you need to take care of yourself. And on that note, maybe you could come up with some goals that help you look after you. Whether it is setting 30 minutes aside to read a good book after a nice long hot bath...whatever suits your style, make ME TIME a priority. You are a priority. People depend on you but you have to be kind to yourself before others can truly have all of you when they need it. Come up with a Self-Care Plan of something you will do daily that is relaxing and caring for your body, mind and soul. And if you care to share them, great! If not, that is also okay. :)

Gentle hugs,
Sheri

I do know, Sheri. It's just that some days are harder than others. Today - not so good. Tomorrow - hopefully much better.

Imagine how those without God must struggle when they don't know they do have somebody to turn to who is always there? Kind of sad for them, huh? HUGS

I have and am. Thank you. If I didn't have my faith I can't imagine how I would survive. God will get me through this. It's just painful right now.

have you tried to seek help through a pastor, your family doctor etc.? I don't know where you live, but there are ALWAYS places you can get help for free if you just do the searching in the phone book and phone various agencies who can pass you onto the right ones for you. Work at it and search for it and you'll get it.

Oh, my. I'm still working on 'letting go.' Not doing too well at that right now.

For me, my goals are setting up my routine. I do very well when I have a routine to follow. specific days to do specific chores etc. Top priority from now on is SparkPeople before FaceBook. I'm getting tired of FB anyway and SparkPeople is so much more upbeat, encouraging and motivating, and most of all, it doesn't FREEZE up!!! lol. So I have a big calendar that I'm going to write everything that needs to be done for October, on in various colours, where each colour has a different priority...high priority, that it must be done, medium, it should get done and low, it can wait.

This week I am going to continue to focus on 'letting go' of those things I can't control and only serve to increase my anxiety. Last week I did really well and want to maintain that focus.

My main goal is to focus on forgiveness and to try to use coping skills when it comes to unhelpful family members.

I went out to dinner with my DH. We have not had one single night out alone all summer - grandkids or kids have been with us constantly. Now I love all my kids and their children - but I need time with DH. And we have faced some exceptional difficulties this summer with our children and grandchildren - including a severe accident just over a week ago (see my blogs). I needed time. Quiet time. Enjoyable and relaxing time. So we took it. It was so nice. Of course, the difficulties didn't disappear when we got home, but I sure feel better able to face them tonight. Me time. We all need it. And that is going to be my goal for a few weeks - me time!

My goal for this weekend is to be minful of what I eat and drink. Lately I've been using food as a way to comfort & distract myself from all the stress in my life. It does not help and only makes me feel worst. So this weekend I will be mindful and keep track of not just what I put in my mouth, but how I feel at the time.

You have your goals down, in black and white and it sounds like they are level-headed ones as well. I wish you well and know that you will achieve them because you know how important it is to stick with what works for you. :)

This is a great thread. Thank you for taking the time to think of it and post it.

Weight loss/health - Get to and maintain a healthy weight so I have energy to devote to things I value.

Spiritual Walk - Align my life with my values, which means putting my abilities and spending my energy on things that matter more to me.

Personal Life - Devote my time to my family and to mentally healthy activities. Change spending habits and save money so I can have more freedom.

Social life and relationship - Get some involvement in something so that I have a social life.

Home - We have a good situation for while my wife is in school for 3 more years. Then, get to a community that's more our style.

Financial - Eventually get our lives and our income in balance so that work is less of an all-consuming priority

Thanks again, this is really helpful in getting started on changing my priorities in life!

...the last full measure of devotion...

The will to win is nothing without the will to prepare.

I'm impressed and very proud of those who have set goals. And you don't have to use every goal that I put there...they are just ideas. You may have a goal that is not listed there...please put it here too if you want. You are doing great. Putting goals in black and white clears up the ramble of ideas and thoughts for goals in our minds. WELL DONE!

Thank you for this thread. It's good to take a minute and think about this. So here it goes:

Weight loss/health - start losing again to achieve my final goal, and to do that I will keep going to the gym regularly and eating wisely. Take my meds, see doctors for maintenance and prevention, stay away from substances. Take care good of myself.

Spiritual Walk - I guess to find magic in everyday life through art, literature, nature.

Personal Life - Develop hobbies/interests/activities. Save enough money to visit my sister, go to my friends wedding and have some fun.

Social life and relationship - I really need to work on this. I don't really even know where to start...

Home - I live with my mother and this is fine, the apartment I have in her house is fine as well, for now anyway.

Financial - I applied for disability recently so my goal is to get that, even if I am turned down at first. In the meantime, complete the certificate program that I will be starting through DVR and ultimately get a better, part-time, job. Oh yes, and get out of debt!

This is really thought provoking; but, here it goes.

Weight loss/Nutrition goals - to continue to eat healthy and eliminate my poor eating habits, exchanging them for healthier choices - FOREVER! The weight will come off slowly - hopefully another 20 pounds or so.

Spiritual walk - continue to become the woman God wants me to be; to serve Him and trust more.

Personal/Social life - spend more time with those people I love. Like myself more.

Relationship - not to take my marriage for granted. Spend the next 30 years or more with my husband. We celebrated our 34th anniversary this year - dated for four years before that.

Financial - become debt free.

Home - this old farm house needs a lot of work. It will take a long time, but we have the time. Now, if we could just get the money to do some of the major stuff :-)!

Work - I love my job but not all the people I work with. There are a lot of people that I work with who are not 'healthy' minded in terms of how they treat others. I need to avoid them because they are harmful to me.

Finally, I need to continue to work daily at letting those things go that I can't control and taking full responsibility for those things I can control. I dwell on those things that are painful and harmful to my health, life and soul.

I think that's it...who is next? Janice

Hi Everyone!! Hi Sheri-love the new photo!!

My goals
1. Health-keep that blood sugar under control(get it below 6.1 once and for all) and manage my blood pressure.
2. Appearance-continue to Zumba, weight train walk etc until I look as good as I feel. My tummy continues to improve(I am pretty sure that gluten and I don't get along)
3. Work-to help my students realize that they are ultimately responsible for their learning and their success
4. Spiritual-to continue my studies and to keep my heart open even to the people that try my soul.
5. Social Life-to have some time for all the people that I adore
6. Home-to get it organized and decluttered once and for all
7. Financial-to keep paying down our debt(especially since working three jobs should be helping the financial issues)

That's about it for now-time to get moving!!

What are your goals for weight loss, nutrition, career, your spiritual life, personal life, social life etc.? Post them here and let us encourage each other. This thread was inspired by a member from another team. Thank you Dennis.

I'll start:
My weight loss goals are to continue to walk and do the little strength I can until we figure out my back conditions altogether.
Nutrition-wise I don't worry. With hypoglycemia I eat very well. Nutrition has never been a problem. My weight is 35 medical conditions and the medications for them.

For my spiritual walk, I'm still trying to find a ride to the only church in the city that offers what I believe in.

In my personal life, I want to get my apartment organized and get the extra furniture gone I was holding for my parents. They don't want it now so I can Freecycle it.

My social life I'm starting to volunteer at the local Canadian Mental Health Association again. I volunteer on the www in various places.

Relationship - don't really know yet. I have a few good close friends and then I have my acquaintances. I'm happy with that. My long-term goal is finding an apartment in the city I grew up in where my parents and my brother (and his family) still are while maintaining my independence.

Financially, I am on a disability pension and have a lady who manages my money etc., so that is not a worry for me.

I really want to get my apartment organized. I injured my back - permanently - while moving furniture but when my bronchitis is gone, I plan on emptying ALL dressers etc. and moving things around the way I want so I can get the clutter away.

So those are my goals. Who's next? To quote THE PERSON:

COMMUNICATION would be very instrumental for a successful team. Sharing your goals and/or how you plan to achieve them and of course, giving God all the glory for your accomplishments.
