emoticon Katty. You reminded me that I have 6 brand new toothbrushes that need to get used, before I forget I have them, and buy some more, lol.

I tossed 2 toothbrushes today.

tossing my own toothbrushes is never easy. I take so good care of them that when it is time to replace them, they are as good as new. And I don't like to toss things that are good! So I talk myself into keeping them for tackling those hard places in my home where only a toothbrush would reach.

But truth be told, I barely notice those places, less brush them clean! And I have 3 or 4 brushes already "in storage"!

So I was brave and tossed 2 today!

Yesterday, I put away the clean laundry, gathered the recycling and put it where it belongs, washed the towels spread across the laundry room floor, and this morning my husband was thanking everyone for how nice it looked in there! I didn't tell him it looks so bright because someone tore the curtain off the window and I haven't found all the pieces of the rod yet, so the sun now comes straight in and brightens up the room!

I understand your pain, 99% of the things I got rid of were my husband's...every once in awhile, he'd hover at the garage door flinching as though he were in pain...have about 20-25 more boxes, just full of PAPER and OLD MAGAZINES and CATALOGS from the last 30 years to get rid of...oooohhhhh, it was frustrating opening a box and realizing the whole thing really just needed to be recycled!!! The sides of the garage are nicely organized; in the middle is a HUGE pile of stuff to go down to the dumpster Tuesday afternoon. (We have a large piece of furniture I'm taking to work in the back of the truck until I go to work on Tuesday.)
Have a few boxes in the house to put in various places, that were never put away when we moved here 14 months ago!

Sorry for the rant, I'm feeling liberated from all the CLUTTER I've lived with for the two years of our marriage!

3 pairs torn undies, 4 pairs torn socks, don't understand why my DH can't do this himself, lol. Tried to throw away the pair of torn shorts, but he pulled them back out the trash and stuck them in the washer, lol. Died hard pack rat. I even promised I'd let him get 2 new pairs, didn't work. But I'll get them yet.

I replaced the toybox with a wagon just a little smaller. That way we could pull it around behind us to collect toys, and it was more of a game. I picked up the big toys that didn't go in the toybox (wagon), and they got the little ones. I had 4 at one time interested in toys so the toy monster was a real problem, and keeping everything in one room was also impossible.

it counts! Weed is the clutter in your garden!

My daughter used to do the same as your Sarah, but I learnt that if I took away some of her toys for a week or two, when I gave them back to her, she would play a lot with them and not get bored. I rotated the "hidden toys". That way I limited the number of toys around, and I saw she enjoyed them more. I never took away her very favorite toys, though(you know, those one or two things she's always playing with)

This morning I did a 5 min weed pull along one side of the deck. Then I put the pile of weeds out for pick up. Does this count? Wasn't a lot, but I'm hoping it I do this sporadically for the rest of the week, I might get it done.

Also I threw out 2 old umbrella stand.

Also still working on my bills, which has cut down on my desk clutter.

Charyse, maybe if youlimit the area that she plays in by redefining the space. In my old house, when I had my 3 yo nephew, I moved the sofa about 4 feet from the wall and put his toy bin behind it against the wall. When he dumped his toys, as he loved to do, they were all in that area and not all over the livingroom. It also made it easier for HIM to pick them up.

Didn't start on the garage today, but I did manage to get my kitchen and living room in some sort of order! Big problem is my toddler's toys in the living room...I pick them up each night after she goes to bed and she makes a mess playing with them the next day!! :) We're working on putting our things away, but it's a work in progress!

that is possibly one of the biggest problems with recycling: finding a place to keep the stuff. it piles up quickly! It really makes you become aware of how much waste we produce! I wish in my country we had a recycling system. We basically put everything together in one bag and it all goes to the city dump.

Oh, btw, 2 towels!
I don't have a problem with clothes and some other stuff because some people pass home by home asking for things. If they can't wear them or use them, they sell them and buy food. I have a lady that comes at least once a month, so I put clothes and shoes in bag for her to pick. There's a little girl too, she must be 11 or 12.

I am part of the Zero Waste Team, a group here who is trying to reduce our waste to zero. WE hold events sometimes for the community, to teach about composting and other ways of recycling. For one of the events, I was in charge of the children's area, and we had a couple of crafts for them to do, using old materials. I was collecting toilet paper rolls for another event, but we haven't had one for a while. My husband has been annoyed about the big bag of toilet paper rolls, and wanting to throw them away. Yesterday, though, I gave them all, including the ones still in my bathroom!, to someone who was looking for craft items for 5 & 6 yo's. She came by and picked them up, and they are Gone! Now I need to work on the rest of the stack/pile, but I shall not do it today, as today is Sunday and God's day.

I am choosing my garage to start on...I like the idea of a little bit at a time...my garage is overwhelming, there is a narrow path between the door to the kitchen and the big garage door. So I am going to dedicate 10 minutes a day to my garage and see how far I can get. I know there are many things that my hubby has cluttered in there that he will never miss, he is also quite the packrat!

This morning my livingroom was filled with transients, lol (my 21yr old brought home about 5 of his friends, and I found them asleep on my furniture and floors when I got up). So instead of working in there, I let them get their sleep and cleared out a ton of paperback books from my youngest sons room. They are all packed and ready to donate to the library on my next trip into town.

of course it is okay!. It is what fits your situation, after all.It has to work for you.

My washing machine has a button to save water when I have half a load, so I can do it well every day, although once or twice a week I have nothing to wash. This is mostly for bigger families.

But I noticed that if I tried to do one load a day ironing was easier, and I didn't have to fold and put away so many clothes at a time so I didn't procrastinate doing so. Also, I do not have that big bulk sitting on my kitchen floor, which is where my washer is!

I hope it is okay to wait until there is a full load. We have a water shortage here so we have to use minimal water. That will probably be a load every three days.

Guess what Sandy? Your next Flylady lesson is "Laundry: A Load A Day". It is our new habit for the month. At first I thought that was excessive being just 2 of us in my home. But a load a day is what keeps me from ironing which is what I most hate in the house!

Caught up with the washing and ironing - all put away. Happiness is a clear laundry. Pity it doesn't last long :)

I went to the mall today, where there was a recycling "celebration" There were tables out there with plenty of information about recycling. I was about to get some good info about my worm bin, and will follow up on why it didn't work. I found out that my favorite place to recycle paper is now accepting plastics & aluminum, which I also recycle at the curb. They said they will recycle the lids for the bottles, like soft drink covers and water bottle covers! Nobody knew of a place to recycle fabric that is completely worn out, though, or more than plastics #1 & 2. emoticon There is a local place that will re-fill my ink cartridges, and give me 10% off as an educator discount emoticon And while there, I was able to stock up on enough pencils and pens for this upcoming school year! I seldom buy pencils anymore, as we can easily get free ones as give-aways from many different places. And now places are beginning to give away pens, also, so we are stocking up on those and using them, also. My son's favorite pen is one that Monsignor gave him at Christmas time! You know, instead of posting this here, I should be posting it as my blog . . . Hmm. I'll think about that! Anyway, instead of decluttering, I learbned about ways to declutter today.

Threw out some plastics, take aways, that I thought might come in useful, but never did.

Tossed another old blanket, a torn backpack, sons worn out clothes, packed several used ink cartridges to send to school (they get cash back for use on playground equipment), last years uniforms and another back pack, still in good shape, to pass on to another child. They collect these the week before school to pass on to low income families.

Because the charity is at the other end of the town next door, I usually go like once every one or two months, unless I have a big supply of things. One way I would decide how often to go is how full the box is. Another is I go when I'm running errands on that part of town, so it won't be an extra trip.

you are both very creative! Hope you find the space for your charity box! How often did you drop it off at the charity?

Like Cynthia, I used to have a big box for a charity here. Everyone knew what the box was for, and instead of giving me their items and overloading my bedroom or desk or lap, they put them in the box. Well, we rearranged things, and now there is no longer room for the box, and my bedroom, desk, area around desk, and lap are getting overloaded again. emoticon I want my box back but haven't found a place for it. I need to get rid of more things so I can have a place to put a box to get rid of things. Hmmmmm.
