Good for you to fit in a run, must not have been easy with everything else in your day.
Great to feel great when getting the chance to exercise !!

If you are a runner, it doesn't matter how far or how fast. It doesn't matter if today is your first day or if you've been running for twenty years. There is no test to pass, no license to earn, no membership card to get. You just run." J Bingham

THURSDAY
Easy Run
Distance: 3 miles
Location: Maine
Intervals:
:30/:20

Mile Splits: 10:39 / 10:46 / 10:56

Notes: This was a long day that started with a 6:40 am flight to Maine, after about 4 hours of sleep (plus some sleep on the plane). I was pretty tired, but did feel better after the exercise. We were in Maine for my FIL's Memorial Service, so this turned out to be my only opportunity to run while we were there.

Auto-pilot runs are valuable for maintenance until you have the conditions to train mindfully like you want to

Best wishes for you family get together, a sad occasion but also a bonding and family-building one

Easy Run

Intervals:
:30/:20

Mile Splits: 10:18 / 10:18 / 10:11 / 10:11 / 9:54 / 9:56

Yes at times I like the two different states of mind that occur when you hi from running to walking . At other times I want to escape

Sounds like you made good choices . Great job,

SUNDAY
Medium Long Run
Distance: 8 miles (9 miles total)
Location: Gym Track
Intervals:
:20/:40 (1-6)
:20/:30 (7-8)

Mile Splits: 11:59 / 11:47 / 11:47 / 11:40 / 11:57 / 11:10 / 10:58 / 10:44

Notes: I had another short night last night, so I was a little tired today. I was tempted to postpone this run, but decided to just keep it very easy and see how far I could go. I wanted to run at least 90 minutes, which I did.

My biggest problem, however, was that my mind was all over the place. Monkey brain, I've heard it called. I just couldn't relax and focus on the run; all the stress and anxieties of the recent weeks were just racing around in my head. A few miles into the run, I decided to start focusing on my breathing -- that has helped me in the past to calm down an over active mind. And it definitely helped during the run segments. But I was also doing a lot of walking today, and my mind would start back up during the walk breaks.

So I started counting my steps as I walked and after a while just focused on the breath as I walked, very yoga like. Not matching inhales and exhales to a step pattern (which I was doing when I ran) but just "watching" them. After a while, my mind calmed down and I was able to relax into the run.

Once I did that, the run became much easier. It's interesting how that works. And I felt much less tired.

Catherine
