Great Article. I think another thing that has helped me past the negative thoughts within is my faith. I think my faith in God has really helped me focus on whats important and who made me. It makes things so much bigger and more exciting than focusing on small issues with self esteem on the things I lack outside. Often I think if people start looking within, they'll find they have so much more to offer themselves and others around them. Faith in God has definately given me hope that there is so much more to life than what I see in my own circumstances and that things can change if I have faith.

Self image includes:

What you think you look like physically
How your personality comes across
What kind of person you think you are
What you think others think of you
How much you like yourself or you think others like you
The personal status you believe you have

Connection to Self Esteem

If you have a poor self opinion your self esteem will be low. Self Esteem focuses on how you feel about yourself. Image is about how you see yourself and how you believe others see you. They are, as you can see, closely connected.

You may believe how you see yourself is how others see you. This cannot be true. Your view of yourself is shaped by your unique thoughts and beliefs and you will have a distorted view. You will see yourself in a positive or negative way and both will be biased. You may have a negative view of yourself and if so you are probably highly critical of yourself.
Wondering what to do to Improve your Self Image?

List things you like about yourself - include appearance, personality and skills

Change negative thoughts to positive thoughts by

focusing on the positive ones and trying to forget the negative things that happen to you

Take up an exercise program - you will feel better and look better! more about self image and exercise

Remember good things people have said about you and note them down if you want

Make any changes you think would help you for example clothes, appearance, hair style, behaviour in certain situations

Accept things about yourself that are true and learn to think about them in a positive way

Take yourself less seriously and lighten up!

Accept criticism in a constructive way so you can improve and develop

Don't be limited by your internal image, step outside of it and break free, it doesn't have to control you or keep you down. Acting differently will change how others see you and will also help to change your own attitude towards yourself and your abilities

Take up challenges positively and surprise yourself!
