Okay, Day 1 of the Zone: 2

I managed breakfast and snack right on the money. However, I over-carbed lunch and decided to compensate with a bit of extra protein at dinner (which you aren't really meant to do) so my total day numbers are good.

I have been snagging recipes off the zone diet website, and I made a barley risotto, i believe the original is sundried tomatoes and asparagus, but I traded the asparagus for green beans. It was really good!

So, I was playing with my numbers and ratios and such like that, and I realized something. If you are looking at the pie charts supplied on the Sparkpeople nutrition info, your carbs will always come out a little higher than 40% (and therefore your fats/proteins each lower than 30%) because we subtract fiber on the zone, but the pie does not. Therefore numbers like 44:28:28 would work fine (you can look at my food plan during most of last week for examples)

For anyone psychotic like me, who wants to refigure the numbers, there are 4 calories in each gram of protein or carbohydrate and 9 calories in each gram of fat. Enjoy.

Happy St. Patricks Day! Watch out for that green beer, unless you are intending to also have quite a few green egg whites to accompany it. This is the starting point for our zone challenge.

Each day, feel free to post how many and which meals you ate in the zone, any great meals or recipes, and any difficulties with following the zone. Feel free also to generally discuss how you feel about trying to eat on the zone.
