Nearly every decade of my life I have hit a point that my weight just had to go, and over my 60 years, I have been down and back up the scale at least 6 times, and each time I gained even more than I lost. I have also used at least 6 different strategies to get the weight off. This time I have decided this just has to be the LAST time, if I expect to live to see Grandchildren. I have two sons in their early 30's, and neither is even married yet, so I could be waiting a while since neither has a prospective girlfriend right now either. But even beyond that, my health has paid the price for all this weight, and I want to improve some of my health issues, and possibly leave a few behind with the lost weight too!

My journey begins with one step....and I am taking that step today!

I have problems with my knee. So walking regularly has been a challenge. I live just a few blocks from the beach. This Summer I want to walk to the beach with my son, play in the lake, and walk home. Maybe even play in the sand.

I would absolutely love to run on the beach!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't wait for Summer.

My closest motivation is my sister's wedding in October. I know I'm not going to be anywhere near my goal weight by then, but I'd like not to be a whale and have to wear something that just "fits me" rather than something I chose and looked good on me.

But more than the wedding, I just want to be healthy. I haven't been fit and healthy since I was a kid.

I am 37yrs old and need to loose 190lbs to reach a healthy weight per the weight charts; but honestly each bit I can loose will create a healthier me. I have plenty of health issues and aches; and simply know that if I don't do this now, I won't be around as long as I should be with my family. Life is my motivator, secondary to that once I reach my desired healthy weight, I will never again be too big for seats in stadiums, rides at amusement parks, clothes I want to wear; and will be able to volunteer in ways I have always dreamed.

I have a red dress that's a few sizes too small, and I'd really like to be able to wear it for my daughter's high school graduation in June.

That's getting right into the nitty-gritty of it all Playtash. Well put.

I had to think long and hard about this topic because I've always been big and I always feel like I would like to experience being "smaller". However, that wouldn't be altogether true. At this point in my life I am 306lbs and I'm only 26. I have no husband (great bf though) and no kids and I have no energy. I sit down all day at work but I can't stay up past 11 without serious nap before hand. I'm too big to wear my sexy highheel, heck, I can't even fit into my "fat" jeans anymore. Now everytime I stand up for a long time my back hurts or sit down for a long time my knees hurt. I tried to blame it on so many other things but point blank its because of my size. After I lost 80lbs two years ago I felt great and wanted to do things. Since then I've gained it all back and then some and its hard to look in the mirror. Not because I hate the body that is in front of me but because I hate how lazy I had to have been to get this way.

My motivation is my life. I want to feel better. I want to look better. I don't want to have to go back and forth to the doctor because of size related issues. My motivation is my want, no need, to be active and experience things. I went to Europe and couldn't even enjoy it because my friends wanted to walk everywhere in London and Amsterdam. And this past June I went to Aruba and I was too tired to enjoy walking on the beach and too fat to take my bathing suite cover off. I need change and I'm motivated by all of you to stick with it

AH Motivation. I love moneystretchers comment about amusement park rides. It made me think, we plan on taking the kids to disney. HELL I wouldn't be able to get on a ride, I don't go to fairs and such but I want to. So thanks for the new motivation!!!
THE BIG motivation for the end result: EUROPE!!!. I have never been and hubby and I will be celebrating our 10th anniversary in Oct 2010 so that is 15 mos away. I don't expect to be 130lbs by then(to dream) but I want to be in a size 16 or at least shop in a regular store. That is a high goal and if I can get myself exercising (yikes) I know I can do it. I decided July would be my launch to healthy eating and then Aug 1st i would move forward and accelerate.
So my motivation: things with the kiddos and something special with hubby.

Well said Moneystretcher. One motivation I have is not wanting to experience the same problems my mom and grandmother had. Both were in need of an amputation before they died. I'd like to see my grandchild grow into adulthood. I'd like to be able to walk around and do things.

You see all sort of formulas of how much of weightloss is diet and how much is exercise. Well how much is Motivation? Motivation is what gets us out of bed each day, it is what helps us say no to that Krispy Kreme donut someone brought to work. It gets up past the "oh, this one time won't hurt, live a little". Or Aunt Annie's homemade apple pie she made from scratch, (you don't want to hurt her feelings do you).

Motivation gives you something to say to those who try to sabatoge your efforts. It puts things in perspective and it helps us to choose what is best for us over what is easiest.

What Motivates You?

We need to share what motivates us with others. It will make us more determined. If we share our motivations with people here at spark, with our friends, with our team mates, and on the message boards not only will we become more committed, but we will help others do so to.

My biggest motivation is my relationship with God, I want to know that I am doing the best that I can at taking care of the body he gave me and not take his gifts for granted. It will make our relationship stronger, I need him.

I want to live to see my 4 year old grow up. (my mom died at 47 and I'm 44)

I want to be a good example of a healthy lifestyle for my daughter.

I want to be able to do more activities with my husband and children, more than just watch T.V. and eat out.

I have a thousand things I can't physically do right now that I want to, I am slowly reclaiming them one by one. I can now go up my steps normally, my knee is strong enough to hold my weight.

So when someone comes at me with that donut or piece of pie I can just say, " Thank you for thinking of me, but watching my son grow up is more important to me right now". If they scoff, I can just smile and walk away, my son is worth more than a debate. If they follow I repeat, " my son is more important".

Whenever I am in an unexpected situation, I can ask myself, what is the best choice for me, so I can watch my son grow up?

If I don't feel like exercising, what is the best choice for me, so I can watch my son grow up. Is my son worth this effort?

Without motivation, we get discouraged easily. We need to find and share what motivates us.

So, I am asking. What motivates you?
