I am feeling very alone on this team - feeling that the journaling I have done this past while has been helpful to me but will not continue as a team of one - if anyone ever comes to this team and wants someone to talk with, share their path with, please message me on my page and I will return to support and encourage you if I am able at that time. God Bless you everyone!

Dec 23 - Saturday and quiet day ...gradually building up treadmill minutes one or two per week - so 11 yesterday at 2.2mph - but legs are so numb I had trouble getting up the stairs afterward.

Praise the Lord I don't have the horrible pain levels that others describe - just weird numbness and feet feel like they have something on the bottom of them that is stiff and crumbly... feel cold to touch part of the time and poor color but Dr says circulation is good. They swell as the day progresses - ! do well with hour laying down mid afternoon with them elevated - esp if right after exercise machine of the day. Hands are having more numbness with each passing week - but again thankful that not much pain. Left one has some arthritis like stiffness and ache when cold especially.

Wk 3 Dec 15-22 Neuropathy is more pervasive the last week - Thankfully I do not have much pain - just numb and lack of feeling unless I an touched or press on any of feet or lower legs. Noticing more numbness in hands and some on face that puzzles me.

Dec 16 - feeling thankful that I could pace myself and alternate walking and sitting and prepared a very nice family dinner for my family of me, hubby and daughter and the young man she has been dating - we met him for the first time today. I worked for two days but was able to have a lovely table, served nice beef roast, roasted veggies, raw veggies, fruit salad , mashed potatoes and gravy and appitizers and dessert..I could still do it even though I had to plan carefully and rest often in the process - so thankful for being able to still do this for daughter. Will need to rest extra tomorrow and probably use the cane more for a few days but...I DID IT!!!

Dec.17 - Thankful it is Sunday and a day of rest - I am doing well - actually the legs worked pretty well today - did have some bad leg cramps last night - Had a little higher level of sugar and salt than ususal but was pleased that scales did not go up nor was I swollen -

Dec 19 - status quo - got back on the stationary bike today - foods doing OK - pain levels ok Got in nap - weather is not affecting me so much this season - maybe because I am staying in house and not trying to be out in changing temps much.

Week 2 Dec 8-14
12/08 Neuropathy seems status quo - frustrated that weight is not moving downward
12/09 Legs shakey today - not painful, just don't trust them feet definitely more numb and puffy
12/10 Feeling positive today except for weight being up and may be congestive failure since am really puffy. My need to go back to afternoon nap of at least a half hour with feet up.

12/13 A little puzzled at some fleeting areas of numbness on my face = mainly around mouth.... not related to times of eating or of the day - just notice that weird feeling of touching my face and not feel like it belongs to me ... I have had this off and on for a few years but seems more consistent lately and notice it especially when I go to put on the CPAP mask at night .

12/14More numb in my legs - no reason that I can figure out - discouraged to see this seem- ing to detteririate progress and slowing my life even further but also thankful I can still drive short distances, can walk the grocery store. Thankful they are not painful unless pressed on so will keep up the good fight

Dec 4 - travel day to Dr appointment - good report and no more appoinments!!!Yeah.
Dec 5 - recuperation day from travel - so am doing OK - did well on 8 minutes on treadmill!! Stairs are scary due to non-trustworthy legs. but I work hard to maintain the strength for them so I am able to do laundry etc on lower floor of our home.
Dec 6 Good day considering not much rest last night - pain levels in good control - and cold weather is not bothering since I don't have to be out in it!
Dec 7 - Good day - moving around in home fairly comfortable - stairs hurt!!! treadmill OK but stayed at 8 minutes since feeling wobbly and hubby not home to check on me.

A good day - scales down - hoping to see that # two more days so I can claim it!
Walked well this morning - no cane needed at church!! I carry a folding cane and use at end of service after sitting too long.
Then did groc. store - walked every aisle holding to cart when needed - flat safe place to walk!
Tomorrow is back to the city for Dr appointment - 3.5 hour ride each direction - will wear support hose for trip seems to help with swelling and therefore less pain on the way over but increases pain on the way home - but figure protection against blood clots is worth the effort.

Dec 2 - Neuropathy check in - Did a lot of walking on level areas - most was on cement floors/sidewalks - Some muscle cramping this evening - hope it is not an indication of the night -

Definitely more dependent on cane when in public areas - finding it is for balance more even on flat surfaces and the need to have it when I am standing and talking with friends very long. Sure makes me feel old and decrepit!!! But also am thankful I am still able to drive very short time and be independent for activities like today's Christmas Bazzars so hubby does not have to go with. Appreciating these special events recognizing I may not be able to do them a year from now the way this is progressing.

Seemed to do well though with careful pacing and sitting down frequently. I am thankful for this day!!!

Dec 1 - New month - neuropathy is Frustrting - thankfully not much pain - just numbness and lack of balance because of it - muscles weakening s arthritis in knee nd hip are decreasing ability to walk as many steps. Low carb diet is getting easier to manage but still makes me angry to have to give up more of my favorite foods and not seeing scales budge.

Only two more days in November and scales just will not budge more than a half a pound - but my efforts keep being consistent!! Finally feeling back on top of pain levels - couple good nights of sleep and even after lots of walking yesterday for me, legs working well for me today.

Checking in and smiling because I am feeling better - will stop the advil at 2 days.
Today was good day of church and when we go to town we also do grocery store and when I go in , I go up and down every aisle because I have the groc cart to hold on to and it is about 1200 steps on my pedometer ... the cement floor is not the best surface but it is smooth and safe and in warm dry area - lots of plusses!!!
Praying it is a good week and the scales go down the steps numbers go up and the JOY levels in my heart and home begin to register the beginning of the Christmas season.

Second day of taking some Tylenol - I don't see much improvement in pain levels and stiffness and depression. not sure what I am needing - just tired of all the work and making no progress so am ranting and venting.
Tomorrow is a new day and I will begin Advent decorations and plans and I have always loved this season so hoping to see a happier day and a lower scale # and able to be a little more mobile with less stiffness, numbness and PAIN!

Daily check in with the team is important to me - even if it is small team - I learn so much from other's daily lives so will ceck in and let you know how I am doing.
This is Thanksgiving Day - we traveled [hubby driving] 2.5 hours to daughter's home - I wore support panty hose as I have found compression helps my legs stay more co-ordinated and keeps swelling down in travel. Hubby stops at the halfway point for me to get out of car and walk around just a little with my cane so I keep some movement ability or I would not be able to walk by the time we get there. I also took Tylenol ahead of time to keep pain in control for me - I am blessed to not have huge pain like so many with this disease - Double checked to make sure I was getting full dosage of supplements Magnesium, Vit D, Alpha Lipoic Acid and others for general health. I carefully kept portion control and sugar free, gluten free and Low carb foods and drank lots of water. Then the same long road home with rest stop again midway. It has been good - I did extra stair flight there and purposefully got up and walked around in the house with cane for flexibility and so pain would not get a hold on me.
Very tired and prayerfully will rest well tonight.

Pain is my life now...it is all I know. I do not leave home very often....once or twice every two weeks and if I am going to drive I cannot take my morning dose of gabapentin, glipizide, or Tylenol 4. My pain level is too high to skip my pain meds very often and of course the glipizide is very important for my diabetes.

I have been trying to figure out my pain and numbness connections --- today I pinpointed when I was up and doing too much too long and my lower back spasm made my right leg hard to move and ache ... the next few hours continued to be weak on that leg and more numb all the way up leg [not just foot and outer part of lower leg] than usual. after sitting for a while and then taking afternoon nap all seems back to yesterdays' level. I noted it by date and event and will keep a record to show Dr next visit. I need to get in more consistent walking efforts than I have had this week - must not slow down on efforts to improve strength and stamina.

Editted on Monday 7/18 - noticing something continuing in R leg -- seems more achy but also more sensation... praying that means more nerves might be going to heal???? I increased supplement of alpho-lipoic-acid to t twice day on the 15th...wondering if that could be helping?

I am doing OK today - the storms keep coming and going and keeping my stiffness and pain levels up bit - had to take Tylenol for bedtime last night and turned the electric mattress pad back on lower legs. The puppy liked it too and nestled in next to my legs. I thought I slept well but CPAP says not - hmmmmm.

Was surprised to get call from Dr office for me to see a new specialist in September for all my neuropathy questions. Local doctor suggested it but I didn't expect to hear back so soon. The insurance works better when it is direct call from the Dr rather than me saying he asked for it.. Should be interesting to get another one stirring in the questions. It is an extra incentive for me to be sure to et my exercises in and no plying hooky.

Irene, you are an encourager! Your comment to not dwell on our goofs echoed my dear friend - I got a little scrape on the car bumper this week - no falt of my own but I blamed myself and Dear husband does get upset with little dings in the car... so I was fussing and my dear friend told me to remember I was 67 and have never caused a wreck, never done any major damage and am a very safe efficient driver...Life happens!!! So I smile and move forward.

and yes, I do keep a well rounded health picture in mind...I just seem to concentrate on one area at a time. and this month the other things are more "routine" while I concentrate on study and learning diet methods and facts and efforts. Doing well and happy with progress and the month is already 1/3 gone!!! Where does time fly?

You are on the right (and POWerful) track, but don't put all your efforts on "losing weight." While it's important (and life-saving), there are other things that can and do help. Reach out to others in your family, neighborhood, online, or even at your grocery store, etc., ask about them and share your own goals, efforts, etc.

A positive attitude can be extremely beneficial. Let me know how it goes. I DO CARE!

New member - doing well today - ready to learn and approach this problem from new and improved angle of new Dr and new friends and new efforts to lose weight s a means of maintaining my mobility and not losing any more of it. Also am blessed that I don't have much pain with mine - just numbness and the carazy "bee stinging me feeling" in my toes and feet.

Good advice, Deb. Also, try massaging your legs and make sure your feet are warm when you go to bed. Let us know how it works.

Also, if I sit too long, it makes the pain worse in my legs and feet. Just get up and mosey every so often. You don't have to run a marathon, just a little stroll to keep the circulation going. Try it, you might like it. emoticon emoticon

Do you take any medicine for your neuropathy? Lyrica or Neurontin (Gabapentin)? Your dosage may need to be adjusted. Talk to your Dr. emoticon

Good Morning Everyone,
Well I went to a new dr. to see if they could find out where my neuropathy is coming from. I had very high hopes, but as usual there is no known cause. I will wind up in a wheel chair eventully. but hopefully later not sooner. Dont loose faith. One day at a time. I'm praying for you.

today is a bad day. I have been having alot of strong pain issues. I have been having pain shooting up my legs and in my arms. I am at work, but sitting at my desk is like torture. I get off in a little over an hour and i am so glad i can go home. I took my celebrex, but i have a strong longing for my tylenol 3 at home. maybe a lidocaine patch as well. I have to keep a heating pad on my knees to help my arthritis.

My husband swears by soaking your feet in ice water. He said that this was the only way he could make his feet stop burning and tingling. Me, I use a heating pad. I also have a prescription for Lidocaine gel that I rub on my toes, which numbs them, and makes going to sleep easier. I've also found that if I take Vit. B Complex, along with the Gabapentin/Neurontin, that I have a lot less tingling. Try different things to see if any of them help.

You've made some excellent points, Sandur123. I have made myself so unpopular with the Dr's office, that I can feel them cringe, when I call or come in. Chronic pain can make life miserable. Add to that, diabetes, peripheral neuropathy, and other chronic illnesses, and you have a recipe for depression. When the medicine you take, given to you by your Dr. in the hopes of making you more comfortable, just ends up making things worse, you know that you sometimes have to take things into your own hands.

I suffer from obstructive sleep apnea, as well as urinary incontinence (caused by multiple sclerosis) and have a real problem just getting enough sleep. I have 3 herniated discs in my neck & back, which cause severe pain, so I see a pain specialist. They gave my a low dose of Lortab to take the edge off the pain & to help me sleep. Turns out that: 1. It doesn't really help me sleep any better, and 2. It actually over-relaxes my ability to breathe, making my CPAP machine leak & whistle, which wakes me up as well. I decided to try stopping the Lortab, and for the last 4 nights, I have actually slept better. The level of pain hasn't changed. It is the same as it was before the Lortab, and it isn't any different than while I was taking it as well. So, I am going to tell the Dr. this and see if there isn't another direction we can go in.

Bottom line... Dr.s have the medical knowledge and training, but only you can know what is going on with your own body. Tell them. Tell them how you feel, about your pain, your depression, your symptoms, your experiences. They won't know unless you tell them everything. I know. Sometimes, some Dr.s only want to discuss one problem per appointment. Mine is that way. You have to be persistent, and go in as often as you can afford to, in order to get everything out. It may just be that there are conflicts with your medication, or your dosage is too high or low. It is well worth investing the time and money into making your life a little more comfortable.

Hi MORMONNOMORE2, I can sympathize with you. We go and see the doctor asking for relief for a pain, and they can't find anything so they just brush us off. We have pain , that is why we are there.

I suffered with chronic headaches. They would literally last for over a month straight. Every single day my head would hurt, and some days it was almost debilitating. I complained and complained to my doctor. AT one point I went to the emergency and they gave me a couple of shots for the pain and told me that as i had had them for over a month at this point the chance of it being a brain bleed or tumor was unlikely as I would have been dead by then. Gee thanks for that. The headaches continued. FInally my doctor sent me for a CT Scan. It came back negative.

In this time I'm also dealing with my injury that constantly hurts me. At some point I had to stop the OTC NSAIDS I was taking due to a confliction with a prescription medication. WOuldn't you know it the headaches stopped. SO I started checking, do you know that long term use of NSAIDS can cause headaches...... Here what my doctor is telling me to take is what was causing the headaches (not to mentions also the ulcers and not to mention skin rashes), and nobody related the headaches to the NSAIDS.

I can also understand your depression. I have many days where I am angry and frustrated to the point of tears because of my situation. Its hard when you are not well due to an injury or disease to not feel depressed and unhappy. I find it very cathartic to talk to others (even by email) and et things off my chest . It helps. Do talk to your doctor if you haven't already about how you feel and be persistent, we all know that our doctors are very busy people but they need to make time for us too, not just all of their other patients.

I will go to my doctor every week if i have to, if I am in pain and what he's telling me isn't helping I will return again and again, until he looks into it further. Be persistent, be a pain, keep on them to dig deeper and find the root of the pain.

Hope the doctors can sort out your pains, depression and diabetes and get things evened out for you so its not such and uphill battle.

Sorry to hear that. I think we all do when there seems to be no relief in sight. Talk to your Dr. Get help. Go to a support group meeting. Think about something else. Get help.

Doesn't it drive you bonkers when you have a complaint and the dr says 'its nothing'? Have you been to the ophthalmologist recently? Sometimes an eye exam can show what is going on inside the head. If nothing else, it may give you a sense of comfort. Worrying about our symptoms goes with the territory and is no fun.

Had a lovely weekend and am glad to be back home. The IVIG that I take for the neuropathy is scheduled for tomorrow. Doc says it may help alleviate some of the tremors I'm having too. Stopped and brought home a watermelon grown locally not too far from here. Ours aren't yet big enough or ripe. A cup of chunks only has 43 calories and 11 carbs. Made a lovely breakfast, adding in a scrambled egg for protein.

Hope a few more members will come by soon. We may be a small group, but have something to offer to others with similar issues.

Happy summer solstice. Today is the day!

Other people taking high doses of B vitamins, like super B complex, have had similar reactions. I got it because of a lack of energy, causing me to sleep a lot, but now I suspect that the fact that Metanx, which is basically B vitamins, makes it have a nerve calming effect.

Good to see you~! Actually, Deb, my dr prescribed the Metanx a few months back. It has had the same result for me so - as long as I'm not on my feet a lot - there must be something to it.

Wishing all a happy Friday tomorrow.

emoticon Lots going on, but I'm pushing through.

Has anyone tried using Metanx? My Neuro prescribed it for me in addition to neurontin, and 90% of my neuropathy pins & needle have been calmed. That is, unless I'm on my feet too much. It really helps me sleep, because I'm not fighting my feet all night long. From what I've read on the medicine, that has been the common results of the combination.
