I'm not into blogging that much, either. I like your idea of the fitness journal. I have some old copies of Prevention magazine that I haven't thrown out, and I bet there are some good pictures and motivational headlines in those that would be good to use in a fitness journal.

How satisfying that must be! One of my cousins finds so much relaxation and joy by journaling in hers.

Thank you, Pat, for explaining the belly bands. Some things just don't work out, so it's good that you've switched to jewelry.

Sandy, your afghans are beautiful! And the explanation about the temperature blankets is so interesting.

I just love reading about all the different crafts that our members are working on, and ones I've known nothing about until reading it here.

Here are three of the five afghans I made for friends who have been helping me - grocery shopping, laundry, taking out the trash, driving me to doctor appointments, etc. Actually, I'm still working on number five.

some one asked about belly bands. It is a custom from the Africans custom. They make them from string and different beads. Some of these beads they say have different spirituality quality. I have done research on them and decided not to Presue the project. Some say it is linked to spiritism. They are made for girls and stay throughout their lives. Even thur pregnancy. Not too sure about slaves wearing them. đŸ˜µBut they are beautiful. I attempted to make one but it keep falling out of place. I took that is a sign not to make it. Instead I'll make jewelry.

For 3-4 years I've been considering making a temperature blanket, but just haven't done it. This year I mentioned it to a friend & she had never heard of it before. We decided to make one this year even though we are getting a late start. She went to Michaels & bought the yarn over the weekend. Now I have no excuse. We are doing rows of single stitch & using 10 colors for the blankets. We are making them so they fit across a queen size bed.

Made several hundred scarves & hats for the homeless earlier this winter. Now I'm crocheting five afghans for thank you gifts to the people who have been so helpful by shopping, laundry, taking out the trash, etc. One of my helpers is also a crocheter so I wil get her a gift card to Michaels instead. I will post pictures of the afghans later.

I hear you about all those decisions to make! I'm trying to loosen up my artwork a bit more by pushing myself to not think too long about one thing. Just to do it. (I'm not real successful with that yet, truth be told.)

Yesterday I stenciled white paint on the small pages, and I was suprised to find that while the black ink stayed in place, the brown ink bled through the white acrylic paint. They are both watercolor inks, so I didn't expect them to react differently. I like the result, though! That's one of the reasons I decided to play around with these various art supplies that I don't use much, or have never used before -- to learn how best to apply them to paper and how they react with other media.

That is super. I'm still working on my new bullet journal. I have most of the pages cut and the covers but now I can't decide on the binding or if I am going to cover in cloth or collage or ?

I need to finish binding the booklet with the blue and green inks this week. I started on the brown and black ink pages, but then didn't like the direction they were going, so for the past three days I've been collaging.
For several years I've had an ongoing drive to tear out and save those return postcard inserts that are in magazines. As you can imagine, I have far more than I'll ever need, but I keep saving them anyway. (Yes, a bit OCD around here.) So I'm back to collaging those little postcards, front and back, to bind into small booklets.
This morning I realized that I might be able to salvage the black and brown ink pages by stenciling some white paint on them. So I'll try that before i totally give up on those small pages that I've already done.

Decisions decisions.... I cut up some watercolor paper (the inexpensive kind) to make a new journal with. I also want to add some lined paper for writing. The pages will be 3X4.5 inches so I can easily carry it in my purse.

Meanwhile I am working on my vision board. I'm not rushing it.... I have my goals laid out but I want them in my face.

I finished binding the book for Week 1 this morning before I left town, so now I need to go in and work on the third page for the book for Week 2. I am still playing with the Dr. Ph. Martin Radiant Concentrated Watercolors. Last week the first seven colors were the yellow, orange, reds and pinks, and this next book will be the next five bottles -- shades of greens, blues, and a purple.

So far I have not put any text on the pages. Haven't decided whether I'll leave them blank or use some of the Tim Holtz stick-on words that I bought last year. I still need to make a title page and then probably use the last page to write what type of waterpaper and what colors of the inks I used. Or -- I could forever leave the whole book blank...

This year I've decided to get more familiar with my art supplies by working on one small piece of paper each day. At the end of the week these will be bound into a book.
For week one I played with the Dr. Ph. Martin's Radient Concentrated Water Color inks on 2 1/2" x 4" watercolor sheets. I haven't finished binding the first week's book yet, but I've got the pages glued for a One Pad Binding.

I stayed up late last night working on a project to facilitate for the assisted living group that I volunteer with each month. Not sure what happened to the rest of the ladies, but today we had only one participant. She enjoyed having all the attention to herself, and she completed two handmade cards that she was pleased with. When I started to leave she came up to me and gave me a big hug -- for the first time in over a year. That made my day!

Now I need to start making some small books to give to the other nine members of my Drink & Draw group. We will meet next on Thursday, December 20, so I need to get working on them!

I used to do clay pieces and I loved it but I am way too busy these days with other activities. The art center i belong to has a kiln and is very inexpensive to use. I may be inspired to try again. Thank you!

Thank you. I have been having so much fun working in clay that I invested in my own pottery wheel. I still have to go to the Art Center to fire pieces but I'm working on a new kiln here in the near future.

Isabel, these are beautiful jewelery stands! I'm so glad I can finally see them now that I have reliable internet service again.

I have taken only one course in ceramics, and I wasn't a stellar learner. But the experience surely did give me an appreciation for those of you who are good at it!

Yes I did throw them. I'm doing it in two pieces right now and then fitting them together. I'm not that experienced in throwing yet but I am trying to figure out how to throw them as one piece. It has been so much fun learning how to work with clay.

Since I retired I began taking some classes at the Clay Studio at our Art Center. It has been so much fun. I'm working on making jewelry stands .... was hoping that they turn out well enough to make nice Christmas presents and I think that they will pass.

My oldest granddaughter is graduating from high school this year, and I will be hosting a dinner for her after the ceremonies. I have bought some card stock, heavy string and small clothes pins to make some triangle banners that say "Congratuations" and other sentiments for decorations. I actually have not started working on them yet, but I thought maybe if I wrote it down on this message thread it would help me to get going on them!

Here is the cross. I painted it, sanded it, used Cricut for the cross in the middle and the "faith" part and put some turquoise do-dads on it. I have two more like it and will do in different colors.

I am working on a cross. I got some wooden crosses on sale at Hobby Lobby. I am using my Cricut to put some faux leather in the middle and some glitter vinyl over that. I will embellish with some other things.

On Tuesday I volunteered at the assisted living facility again, and three residents painted birds. One man chose a cardinal photo to paint, one lady chose a hummingbird, and another lady chose a painted bunting. I ended up drawing the painting bunting for that lady, and my volunteer partner and I helped mix paints and make suggestions about colors to use. It was quite an ambitious project, but they had said previously that they wanted to paint birds. I think they were pleased with their finished pictures. They are so sweet and appreciative that we are there to help them paint, so it's always a very satisfying day for me.

I haven't taken time to work on very many crafts lately, outside of the crafts I lead at the nursing home or the crafts I take part in during my monthly Drink & Draw session with friends. Last night, though, I spent about an hour or so practicing a Gothicized Italic handwriting before I lettered a card and envelope for my 14-year-old grandson. He has always admired my calligraphy, so I wanted to letter something special for him on the Confirmation card I got for him. When I saw his smile today as he opened it, I knew it was worth the extra effort I took to write out his name and a short message in this stately handwriting style.

I took lessons in this grand style from Sheila Waters, one of the foremost calligraphers in the world, in the 1970s. Her letterforms are stunning -- and I still need a lot of practice!

That sounds like a fun project. Well, yes we did tie dye our t-shirts. The outcomes were OK but I think much more dye was needed. Seems that I have been focusing on my sewing more this month. I'm almost done with my winter solstice quilt that I started last year. I also made a Christmas pinwheel quilt which came out really nice. I have a ton of fabric to use up!

I love the idea of making everyone a little memory book and as I clean I have lots of mementos to add to them.

Did you get together with your friend to tie dye? If so, were you pleased with the results?

On Wednesday I started cutting papers and scoring postcards to make little notebooks for my drawing group friends. I had purchased postcards (all in a horizontal format) of the various ceramic tiles and patterns used to decorate the Alhambra in Spain, and I folded them in half. I found some printed marble papers at JoAnn's and used that for the first cover page, and then put in six pages of white paper. In the center of each notebook I used a graph paper that had squares on one side and lines on another, so the notebooks ended up with 16 pages.

For the bindings I just punched 5 holes in the middle and used a regular running stitch down the spine. I finished the 10 little notebooks yesterday morning and placed them all under a stack of heavy books to flatten them.

This is an easy, satisfying little project to do (most time spent cutting the pages) and it ends up a useful item for friends to draw in or jot down things to remember. Over the years I have filled many of these little booklets with quotes, notes from lectures, sketches, lists of movies I want to see -- you name it!

Although I purchased these postcards especially for my art group, I usually pick up free advertising postcards at art galleries, coffee houses, hotels, etc. and use them. I don't try to cover up whatever is written on the back side. Occasionally I've collaged a little something on the fronts of the postcards, although this time I just left them as they were.

So today my project is to wrap Christmas gifts!

We have a beading store here in Tucson that specializes in teaching different kinds of beading techniques. The owner is fond of Kumihimo and teaches it both on the foam disc and the traditional Japanese marudai. She has also written two books. I am looking forward to expanding my skills but I really like the basic braiding.

That's good to get a jump start on your Christmas decorations!

I had to look up kumihimo braiding because I didn't know what it was. I saw some beautiful images online, and it looks really interesting. How did you learn that, CatLady 1955? Did you take lessons somewhere or teach yourself? From the photos I saw, I don't think I could ever figure it out!

It's hard to keep up with all our projects when we have other obligations. I'm surprised to read you use wool yarn to make dish cloths. Do they make better scrubbers when the cotton is mixed with wool, or what is the benefit to using the cotton wool vs just a cotton yarn? Obviously, I don't know much about knitting supplies!
