My oldest granddaughter is graduating from high school tomorrow night, and I've been busy painting wooden letters for a party that a friend is hosting for three graduates. The letters are 18 inches tall and are the first initial of each girl's name. I have painted them in the school colors of their future universities, and guests will use a silver Sharpie marker to sign the letters instead of using a guest book.
So... I'm waiting for paint to dry!

Christmas is over and with it all my projects I was hurrying to finish. Now I've started 3 new ones.

I'm knitting a SHAWL-COWL like the one I just finished for my friend Lori. Today is her birthday, and we had planned to spend it together. However, I have a flu of some sort, and will be going to the doctor instead.

I'm crocheting a BLANKET SWEATER for my sister in red, white, and blue. She's very patriotic and wants something to cover her arms when she is reading in bed. This should be just the thing.

I'm designing and knitting a pair of specialized socks for my daughter who has a disability. Her feet are different sizes and she has some edema. Regular socks won't fit right. I've taken her measurements, picked out the yarn for the first pair, and am knitting the gauge swatch now.

I made 10 decorative Charlie Brown brooms... 5 red rose and 5 gold poinsettia. Injured my hand in the process. The scissors decided to cut the palm of my hand instead of the ribbon. uuugh

Thanks for your support, PandaBear42! There are 5 lessons in all, with 10 videos total. So with the lessons coming every 5 days, this course won't last too long. Hopefully I can keep up with the projects.

I've had to water plants outside today and take care of some paperwork, so I haven't started the color mixing charts yet. I'm anxious to play with my new Dr. Ph. Martin's watercolor set. The colors look luscious and vibrant!

My new project is that I started a new online class today. It is taught by the lettering artist Joanne Sharpe, and it's titled "Whimsical Watercolors Garden Party."

Today there were two videos to watch -- one about the supplies that we'll be using, and the other about using our watercolors to make color charts of how the various paints mix to form new colors. The next lesson will be posted in 5 days, so we have until then to finish our color charts. I have a lot of things going on around the house this week, but I am planning to take time to go through these lessons as they are presented. We have "forever" access to the lessons, but getting behind on my classes makes me less likely to ever complete them.

Carmen helped so much. She immediately saw that the shoulders needed to be taken up instead of gathering too much along the bodice front. I'm ready for the Ball on Sunday! I'll have someone take a picture.

Our Red Hat Chapter is hosting a Victorian Luncheon on June 4, and more than 100 ladies will attend. For our gowns, one woman bought used wedding dresses on Goodwill online, dyed them, and altered each for the members of our chapter. They are absolutely gorgeous when dyed as the lace is a different color than the satin.

Anyway, this woman has cancer and is having fluid drained from her body. She has such a fighting spirit. So, I'm finishing up the alteration.

Well, my old unfinished project has now become my new project again. I found one of my old journals where I had been creating a small drawing everyday, so on Friday while I was at the hospital for my friend's surgery, I did another sketch. I didn't have time (or take time) to do a sketch on Saturday or today, but I feel like I'm ready to start taking time to work in it at least a few times a week again.

The UFO Knitting Night was great. They made sure all of us had prizes to take home. I got some gorgeous variagated green roving. We had a yarn swap and I was able to get enough yarn to knit a complete sweater...also green. I didn't stay up all night, and the air mattress I borrowed from my neighbor was very comfortable....good sleep. The morning was homemade blueberry waffles and I had a good walk with one of the gals to see the town.

I'm so excited about today. So, today my Craft of Choice is KNITTING.

I am meeting a good friend at 2 pm for a late lunch at a knitting shop called Ewe & I. Yes, the knitting shop has a cafe inside with soup of the dy and a biscuit for $3.50. Then at 4 pm the UFO Knitting Knight begins! A demo class, pizza, meeting other knitters, swapping stash, and I-don't-know-what-else.

UFOs, Here I come!

I'm really into knitting these days. I'm knitting a sheep (about 13 inches high, I think), gonna start some socks, and am working up to designing my first do-it-yourself sweater. Oh, yes, and I'm going to knit "A Week in the Life of a Knitter's Cat" (7 scarves) in honor of my cat Sweetheart.

Finished my peplum (new term for me--it 's an extension like an apron to a sweater) on my Knit to Flatter sweater. It's blocking, so no picture yet.

That means time to start something new. I started a set of scarves "A Week in the Life of a Knitter's Cat?--seven different patterns on a cat theme with seven different colors.

Also, started knitting my sheep from the wool I've been carding and spinning for over a year now. Yes, I said a SHEEP MADE OUT OF RAW SHEEP'S WOOL".

Both projects should be fun.

I'm loving it! The technique works like a charm. Got the first 3 exercises finished and decided to start working on my shapes. Didn't get too far...and then had a car accident, left home for the Conference over the weekend, and now have jury duty. Won't be weaving much this week!

I am so pleased with it! The hardest part for me is getting everything set with the warp. Some of the threads always get crossed over one another, and then the shed (open space that you put the shuttle through) isn't clean. I did find some crossed threads this time....but the exciting thing for me is that I FOUND THEM before tying the ends on. The shed is so very clear. Best time yet!

My loom is warped. I've got the end stitching done and am making some plain weave as the first practice exercise. There are 6 practice exercises in Theo Moorman's book I'm using to learn how to do my napkin. It's called inlay weaving if anyone wants to look it up.

My weaving teacher gave me some samples she wove that are inlay weaving. Pretty impressive! It's like a cross between regular weaving and tapestry. You do it all on the loom, not in and out like tapestry. I also made a grid on my picture. Now to copy that over and figure out how to inlay it on the 5 inches of warp I've put on. I want to make a pocket pouch for my SmartPhone with this pattern. My pockets aren't big enough for my phone, and I either forget it or drop it. Neither works.

Where do you live, Panda? 20 degrees! Oh no. We have temps in the 40s at night here in western Washington state, but no more frosts.

Thank you for asking Pattipal...Springs is doing fine. he is in my living room with me in a crate and he is wide awake. i think he has a slight temp, but could be from the inoculations he also received. i can pet him and everything, but he is feral and i'm careful around him. he made up with me last summer (2015), but no one else.

when the weather warms up in the next day or so and he feels not so warm he will go back outside. it is going to get into the 20 degrees some where tonight.

How's the kitty doing, PANDA? I really appreciate those who feed and neuter feral cats. I have a friend who worked with the Humane Society here to trap and neuter the neighborhood kitties.

I used to love doing cross-stitching but was never really good at it. I have a couple of kits I may try while watching TV. I picked them up at a yard sale and they are really cute. The napkin project sounds interesting. I've never tried anything like that.

F8CONE8..i love it when things come together and get them finished. Ah, the excitement of starting a new kit. yes, i agree we do need a new kit once in awhile.

Improvingme...have a safe and fun trip. yep, i would rather do crafting first, but....

Patti...your napkin project looks and sounds interesting...hope it works out for you...your tatting project sounds complicated oh, both of your projects sound complicated to me. can't wait to see pictures of the finished projects.

no cross stitching for me today...had to get up early and try and catch my feral kitty so he could get a little snip job. he has been around for over a year now and has made up with me, but no one else. he is home resting quietly and doing well after his small operation. he's in a crate in my living room with me as he is in no shape to be outside tonight as it is raining out and he would probably become food for another wild animal as he is still trying to sleep the anesthesia off.

keep working on those projects.

All of a sudden (it seems) TWO big projects are looming. They both have to be DONE by the middle of June. My napkin-inspired project is ready to be warped. I think I have the method--at least I know how to prepare the warp. Still fuzzy on how I get the pattern done. Long way from done. Here's the picture of what I'm trying to create. I'm going to make a pouch to carry my SmartPhone.

The other project is the Reenactment of 1855 tatting. I got books and started practicing. Still nothing to show. I'm going to have to learn more about vintage patterns.

Oh well, I love a challenge....just not two at the same time!

I've never had the patience to do a counted cross-stitch piece, but I have been lucky over the years to be the recipient of lovely gifts stitched by my mother, my sister and one of my daughters! I think it's great that you are stitching the Eiffel Tower, PandaBear42, and can enjoy it in place of an actual trip to Paris. Watching travel shows on TV is the closest I'll get to most of those countries, but having a finished piece like you are making can be a long-time reminder of these faraway places, instead.

Good for you to finish more projects, F8CONE8! And we crafters just have to have another new kit to start soon!

I will miss my drawing class this Friday because I'm going on a trip, but I need to get started on -- and finish -- some homework assignments before the class on April 22. I'd prefer to work on art projects when I get home rather than unpack right away, anyway!

I love it when a project starts to come together. Right now I am trying to finish some UFO's. Yesterday I finished a bag and a mini quilt. Unfortunately I just bought another little kit I can't wait to start.

Patti...that is cute.

i have been trying to do a little counted cross stitch every morning. it is of the Eiffel Tower at night. i had started this about 6 years ago and haven't gotten much done on it until lately when i am trying to work on it most mornings for about 1 hour or less. it is boring right now because all i have been working on is the dark sky, but i'm starting to see the top part of the Eiffel Tower taking shape in the outline of the sky. this will be an on going project for some time.

this makes me think of the country song i hear on the radio saying something about not seeing the northern lights (which i have seen several years ago. they were so bright red and very large that night
that it looked like the mountain i live on was on fire). and it also mentions about never seeing the Eiffel Tower at night...this is my seeing the Eiffel Tower ever in my life.

Here's the back I crocheted for my littlest great-granddaughter who turned 1 on Wednesday. The center is a plastic drink mix jar that I just happened to save.

That sounds SO interesting, IMPROVINGME.

I don't think I've told this Team about the course I'm taking. It's called "Draping and Drafting". We are taking measurements of our bodies and making a "sloper" (a cloth shell to use for creating a sewing pattern). It's anFold School. 8-week Tuesday night class. Very interesting and I know most of the class from my own classes at Arbutus

I'll be starting a new six-weeks art course on Friday from the same art instructor I took from two months ago. Looking forward to learning her techniques to mix graphite drawing with mixed media.

I'm busy crocheting. My littlest great-granddaughter is one year old today. I'm making her a clown bank with bright colors. It's made of a plastic bottle--supposed to be a 1-pound coffee jar. I don't drink coffee but had a plastic drink mix jar I'd saved because it was an interesting shape.
