That's adorable!! I have never seen a Westie sit up like that!! What did he do with his tail? LOL!! And he really loves watching Lassie! Wow!!

Well, today I got some cleaner for Buddy's recently staining beard. It was funny... I put it on him... then we went outside where he immediately had his nose to the ground in the back yard! So much for a clean beard! You can't take the "Earth-Dog" out of Westies!

PS His beard actually is looking better since using this product once! It's called Crystal Eyes. It's like Angel Eyes only by Four Paws. I hope it will work. I hate seeing his beard stained. It just started since summer. I think because he has been so hot and drooling.

Ha!!! I think Jack is a hoot! My Westie, Maggie, likes to go down to the lake, dig a hole in our "beach" as it is, and pee in it like a cat!!!!
Weird----but I love her, love her, lover her!! You can see her pic and my 2 other dogs on my Spark Page.

julie you are so wonderful taking in every animal and rescuing everyone else's too. i think it would be easier to build the neighbor a fence to keep the german shepherd in than to have to keep carrying the poor thing. they shouldn't have it if they are leaving it out in the cold knowing it is crippled and can't take care of itself.
it's good ailie isn't afraid of the weather... especially since she likes to walk in the rain !! i would hate for mine to keep jumping in the bathtub all the time like that german shepherd does.

Debra: That blog was hilarious. The funny thing is, the dog I "rescued" yesterday is also terrified of storms and especially fireworks. We found her down in front of our house on Jan. 2 completely soaked and so crippled up from the cold and wet that she could barely make it back up the big hill to her own house. (And yes, I carried that wet, smelly German Shepherd up 8 steps to her doghouse on the front porch.) I hope they get a small dog next time. LOL

The evil doxies and Ailie aren't afraid of thunder OR firecrackers, though Ailie IS afraid of everything else!

my sister has a huge dog that she adopted from t-town paws. he was rescued in a drug bust. he was one of 8 puppies. none of the other puppies looked like him though. the vet said he is part chow because of the blue tongue. he was fully trained before adoption so he would have a better chance of adoption. they have always spoiled him rotten and and they do carry him thru the drive thru and get him an ice cream cone very often. my brother in law had stomach cancer and when he was so sick from his treatments capone would stagger when he staggered, throw up when he threw up and just be as sick as he was everytime. he would go over to jim and put his paw on his knee when he was sick and try to make him feel better. he also sleeps in the bed with them, hogging it of course.

LOL That's funny! Buddy doesn't do it with DH because I don't think DH knows where the kitchen is!! When I go on vacation and leave him alone to fend for himself, I have to leave a trail of beer bottles so he will be able find it! LOL

Jolie likes to sit in the kitchen when her daddy is in there, which is a pain as our kitchen is really small. She doesn't do that when I'm in there and I thought it was because I was a better disciplinarian. Turns out, I just "drop" fewer things on the kitchen floor!

it was me becky who said kirby does the snap with his mouth when he wants something. if his water bowl is empty he'll go stand by the sink and bark. when my dh gives him a bite of food when he is finished eating and he dosen't think it was big enough, he'll keep sitting there until someone comes back over to the bar and gives him another treat. kirby also pouts when he dosen't get his way. he will whine when he wants eli to get up out of the bed when he is on the night shift. he starts it at about 11:00 when he thinks it's time for him to get up. when i am setting the bar when i put a plate down where eli sits kirby and la la la will run over into the living room and jump in the chair with eli and bark that it is time for him to go eat. when joseph is running in the yard with kirby and la la la they tug at his shoe and pants, but they don't do that to me.
i guess they all have their little things they do.

Buddy has this cute little habit when he wants to play... he will grab a hold of the bottom of your pant leg and walk along with you while holding on, or if you are on the floor he will grab the edge of your shirt sleeve and tug. Sometimes when he does this Sully, my 2 yr old grandson, gets scared and thinks Buddy is biting him... of course he really isn't, but the perception is there.

You are really lucky. Gidget had several bad experiences with my niece's son (he had some issues!) when she was little and has been cautious every since then. She loves the kids but gets nervous when they become really active. When she has had enough she just sort of disappears. She is also admittedly spoiled and will also pout (if dogs indeed pout) if she feels like she has not received her fair share of attention. At any rate, I hope he rests up from his sleepover soon and gives up the whining soon.

No, I don't think Buddy is jealous. He loves seeing the grand kids arrive! I've never known a dog quite like Buddy and how good he is with the kids. The breeder had grand kids who use to pick the puppies up when they were really little. Apparently, they did a good job, because Buddy loves kids!

It sounds like we all have special "stained-glass" windows. They work hard to do that!

Gidget rubs on the carpet when she wants to have a bath or when she wants to wipe her face--nice! We use to have a cat that did the walls and did end up having to paint after I could no longer scrub the walls any more.

Janis--I love humor of any kind and would never know that you were tired. I tend to stay in a bit of a fog and have been there so long I now think it is normal!

Becky,
My daughter's dog is a big talker and snaps his mouth without making noise a lot when he is trying to tell us something. Gidget did it when she was little but has since stopped. She talks by STARING at what she wants and responding to questions. She will occasionally when we don't catch on to what she wants OR try to ignore what she wants.

Do you think Buddy could be jealous of the grandkids being there more? Gidget loves to see them come and is just like a grandparent...by the time they leave she loves to see them go and plots down for a nap. Hope he is feeling better!

Linda

Buddy doesn't do that, but he does drag himself across the carpeting in the mornings! It's the funniest sight! Then he rubs his face like the cat!

He also, snaps his mouth at us, instead of barking, when he wants something. Didn't someone say their Westies do that too?

The worse thing is that he has began to whine. Don't know why that is happening, but I am putting my foot down on that bizarre habit right now! I hate whiners!

Does anybody have the Westie rub on the wall above the back of their couch? Jolie likes to sit on the highest point she can find in the house. One of these days I'm going to have to repaint the front room.

Our windows are obscurred with nose prints from Westie level on down. They are quite the snoopy girls and watch whenever the neighbors do anything and heaven forbid someone walking a dog past our house! The Aussies are definitely more territorial though.

Yesterday, while we were on our way home, I was taking pictures out of the truck window. When I looked at them later I had to delete more than one because I couldn't see anything but nose prints on the pickup window!

Linda, we do have drapes on our windows, but I only close them when the sun is shining too hot or the weather outside is too cold. Maybe I should call them Goldilocks drapes. (Sorry for the sick joke, but I am still tired from our trip)

I remember our westie use to leave nose prints on the patio door as well. She also wold love to chase the cattle on the ranch nearby us. If she wasn't on the lead she would have taken off. She would sit with her whole body quivering looking at the cattle.

Debra, If I let Gidget out without a leash she would run like the wind until she stopped to sniff and I caught her OR until she got tired and came back with big sad I didn't mean it eyes. I am definitely not the alpha dog as she doesn't do that stuff with my husband. The two Westies (my daughter's and G) have escaped a couple of times and G is definitely the ring leader. And she look so innocent!

Beth--Thanks--prance is the word that my brain fog kept me from finding!! G runs in circles when she get really excite or when she can get someone or something to chase her.

Janis, Your windows sound beautiful! I have this issue with pretty windows like that in that I don't ever want to put curtains on them. Do you have little nose prints running across the bottom of them? We have them at G level in the house and all over the car windows most of the time.

If I miss Bella during the day I can find her laying in the sun coming thru the atrium windows. She will also stand at the door of the atrium and beg to go out and lay in the sun, panting the whole time. When she comes in she runs straight to the cold floor tiles.

She also prances when she brings something back. When I let her outside and don't put her on the leash she goes crazy and runs at lighting speed in a large circle until she wears herself out then shes ready to go back in, every once in a while she will do the circle race inside - I guess she gets bored.

after kirby & la la la come back inside kirby will either lay inside the fireplace (it's never had a fire built in it)or on the tile floor. la la la lays under the daybed between 2 air conditioning vents. if kirby is really hot he'll go downstairs in the basement and lay on his belly.

we have always called laying between the 2 westies being a westie sandwich too. there is nothing more comforting than snuggling between 2 westies..... well except when they start snoring !!

Our house has floor to ceiling windows in the living room. Lucy is the sun goddess and I can always find her on the east side in the morning and the south side in the afternoon. Sometimes, she goes straight from her kennel to the windows without going potty. I think she can hold it all day.

On the other hand, while Maggie does hang out near the windows, she does get too warm quicker than Lucy. But, from the time she was a tiny puppy, she would also sit on the floor register to get cool from the air conditioner.

When I sit on the couch in the evenings, just put a Westie on my lap and I am out like a light. It's just like holding a baby. They are great heaters. There are times when I have two Westies, two Aussies and a cat or two!

I finally did a google on the sun thing. I learned that they love the warmth of the sun:) It did indicate that you need to regulate them because they will overdo it and get too hot.

You are so right about the heat. There is nothing like a Westie snuggle when you can't get warm. My body does not regulate correctly and there are times when I just can't get warm and others when I can't get cool. At any rate, when I am cold there is nothing like becoming a Westie sandwich between Gidget and my daughter's Westie. emoticon

My Westie use to like to lay right on the heating grate in my kitchen. She also liked to lay in the sun even though she was panting the whole time, she seem to love the heat. Westies like the heat, another plus to get one or two or three over here, there is a lot of heat.

Haven't noticed the the jumpy steps but both Jolie and my late Louis love(d) the sun. Weird. When Jolie is inside and it's hot outside, she likes to lay on the tile floor. But put her outside and she's in the sun.

la la la runs. she is fast as lightning and catches my son when they running in the yard. kirby runs differently with both of his back legs at the same time like a rabbit. but like your gidget when they are bring back a toy they do the happy trot look what i've got ya thing. it's so cute. kirby has to give dh a toy when he gets home. he runs to the toy basket and trots to him the door to greet him when he gets in. then he does his happy dance , tail waggin and butt twisting and then jumps in his lap when he sits down and presents him with his toy.
they seem to have different walks for different things
la la la is a sun goddess. she would lay in the sun all day if you let her. she don't care what degree it is. i did see on Dogs 101 on animal planet that westies are prone to sunburn on their ears but la la la has never had that problem. she certainly has no lack of vitamin d either !!!

Gidget always Gallops when she is happy and I am wondering if this is a Gidget thing or a Westie thing. When she runs after the ball she runs but, when she brings it back, she does more of trot/gallop look at me jumpy step. Now that should go in the dictionary beside poor descriptions!

Also, does anyone else have a dog that insists on sunning themselves no matter how hot it is? She will go sit in the sun when it is 95. My hubby says she must have been reading all the hype about vitamin D deficiency. It probably does mean something but I am not sure what.
