Two of our four have microchips. I don't know what kind they are, but they're through "Home Again". Our little female that we lost in September also was chipped. Our first westie, Bailey was microchipped by the rescue group that we adopted him from. We had Gracie Lou chipped when she was under for a dental (she's the one that passed away), Shayla is also chipped, we had her done when she received her shots. Tuffy's not chipped yet, we were doing it one at a time to spread out the cost. We have since adopted Kaylee and we'll have her chipped too at some point. We've never had to use them, thank goodness. All of ours also have a dog tag with our phone number on it, their rabies tag and their resuce group's tags. I know someone who had a dog that had their chip fall down into their leg! So they can move around.

Baylee also has a microchip, but since I wasn't there when it happened I try not to think about it (her breeder had it done). She's a big baby, too, just like Abby!

Abby had to get microchipped before we took her into Canada from the States. It was awful. The vet said that the chip was only the size of a grain of rice, but that's pretty doggone big for a little puppy! She screamed and cried when she got it, I started crying, and the vet acted as if we were both insane. It was an AVID chip, and we have never had to use it. As if I'd ever let her out of my sight...

Oh... poor thing. Buddy didn't get his until he was being neutered so he didn't have to feel it being placed.

I have all four of mine chipped. Abbey has two. She had to be chipped before I brought her home from the UK. And of course the chip doesn't work here. So she got a second one, and she peed on the vet tech when they did it.

I had Buddy tagged (or chipped) when I had him neutered. His chip is through Avid.

No

I think I will wait yet, the technology is not ready yet I think.....they need to work on it a bit more before I will spend the large sum of money it would take to do it.

Microchips: It would appear that microchipping your pets to be one of the best tools for recovering a lost beloved pet in the twenty-first century.

Here is a link to help us discuss this subject as a team:
www.canismajor.com/dog/microchp.html

I was wondering if you have or haven't microchipped your pets.

If so - Why?
If not - Why not?
If so - When did you have it done?
If not - Do you plan on having it done?
If so - Who is the manufacturer of the chip (if you know)?
If so - Have you ever had to rely on the chip to rescue or find your pet?
