Even though SparkPeople doesn't give you credit for calories burned during strength training, for the sake of the 7000 calorie challenge, you can use the following chart. It includes weight lifting and calisthenics (push-ups, sit-ups, etc.). I noticed that I forgot to add the hour I spent playing my guitar last Thursday! LOL

i looked it up before why strength training isn't counted and they said because everyone has different bodies and use different size weights etc. and so it wouldn't be an accurate count as to how many calories were burned. you get credit for the minutes but not the calories burned. i wish there was a way for us to individually measure it so we can get credit.

Recently I posted that I thought calories had been added in to my calendar for strength training. I don't have any idea what I was looking at but....Oh no they weren't! I thought I had been given too many today so I was double checking and nothing was there for strength training. I wish I could say I had been drinking when I looked the first time but, last I checked, water doesn't have those side affects! Linda

linda,
when someone makes a new post we get an e-mail but when we update our info everyday we are doing it by editing and edits aren't counted as posts so there aren't e-mails for those. you have to scroll down to see the undates every day. it took me awhile to learn all the sp stuff too !! and there is always something new to learn on here !!!

I am glad you guys are still out here. I haven't been getting any emails about updates so I wasn't sure. Beth and RPrincess --congratulations on finishing in less than half the time! I'll catch you guys on this challenge in July when I only have Hadleigh 3 days a week. I just can't seem to get it done. I'm sure I'm burning calories with lifting, rocking, and all the moving I'm doing ... but I'm just not sure how many.

You may all have known this but I just figured it out. The fitness tracker adds calories in for strength training when calories burned are calculated. I only had the ah-ha moment because my cardio was the exact same today and yesterday and the calories were different.

Debra, Thanks for the hint! I have a bad habit of only looking at what is on the screen and not scrolling so I probably miss about half of everything on a computer unless I know there is something else there. Maybe that little ugly face we couldn't figure out is what we get when we go over calories? Hope everyone is doing well. I got home from my son's late last night and am still trying to convince myself to do at least thirty minutes of exercise. I am afraid if I stop now I will never get started again! emoticon Actually, I just noticed there are some meaner looking ones they could use. Have a great day!

Well, that is just the coolest thing I've ever seen! I even got a little gold star on the days I ate enough calories! You'd think with all those fitness minutes that I'd be a size 6 by now! Guess I'm fighting "mentalpause," as my friend calls it.

if anyone forgets to come add in your calories burned there is an easy way to catch up. go to your start page and scroll down to the bottom of the MY TOOLS column and click the My SparkSummary Calendar button. this will take you to your calendar that has your fitness minutes and the calories burned for each day. this is another of SP's great tools. it has what you've done each day including your calories eaten and your daily sparkpoints. so if there is anyone you'd like to ask to join in the challenge they can start anytime and go back and add in their calories burned from their calendar.

Okay I'll up the total for myself. Just for those wondering, it's super hot outside now in the mid 40's (that in the 110F) and it's going to get hotter, so being stuck inside and bored there only thing is rowing. Going for a nice walk, forget it, not until September. Even at night it only cools down to 35C (95F). Snow, yes snow is so nice, I'm dreaming of snow.

Julie,
You must have been reading my mind. I woke up thinking there is no way on earth that I can do this without making myself sick. I thought about throwing in the towel without even starting but decided what the heck. I am going to give it a try and give it my best. So if you hear on the news that there was a crazy lady pushing an empty cart up and down the isles of a grocery store while drinking gallons of water you'll know who it is. Just so you can follow my strange train of thought, cart pushing is on the list:) I am going to try just tracking things I do for exercise but may have too change that mind set shortly. Do you have a way that you usually track strength training exercises? Thanks for the boost! emoticon

Hey, Linda! Did you know that to burn 7000 calories in 30 days, you only have to work off 240 calories a day? And I have found just what you need in order to be a success at this challenge. The following link describes 20 everyday activities and the number of calories each burns; even while watching TV or dusting the house! So, start counting! You can do this!

I'm up to giving it a try. Most of my cardio comes from playing bagpipes anyway. Believe me, 30 minutes playing them will definitely make you sweat! I'll do my best to keep up. I may have to post a few days worth at one time, so if it looks like I'm behind, don't worry, I'll catch up!
