There's a house for sale across the street!! Come on!

I have a practically a full gym downstairs. Step machine, rowing machine, full workout machine with wide fly & leg extensions, free weights, treadmill, exercise bike(s)! yada-yada-yada! My DH used to be a body builder... and I guess so was I for a time. Then my world came crashing down and I got fat! But I am NOT going to cry over this, because I am doing something about it now!

Yes, I used to take ballet, even progressed to Toe with a Tutu! Ha-ha! I had a dance instructor until I was 15. Did some gymnastics, but I was afraid to get hurt so that didn't last. I even did Modern Dance in High School... which I hated. Now I'm thankful if I can get up and down from the floor without help. LOL Funny don't ya think?

Too bad you don't live closer. I could come to your house instead of the gym! (Not that I go to the gym, but I could if you lived here!)

I got the same as Becky - Looking for Functional Training

Guess I'll have to go get a Pilates dvd now! BTW, what is a pilates machine? Sounds scary.

"For you, exercise serves a preventive, therapeutic purpose. You want to maintain a strong core, decrease pain, and stay active and limber as you age so that you can live a healthy, independent life." Wow! So true!

I'm impressed that you used to take ballet, Becky! I guess that's one way we're different - I've never been the graceful type. I took belly dancing in high school. Even danced for a few parties for $$! LOL. It was really great for whittling my waist, but I know I couldn't do those moves now! (Crack, snap...oh no!)

Are You Prepared to Reach Your Goals?

Quiz by Nicole Nichols, Health Educator
One of the reasons so many people fail to reach their goals--whether losing weight, exercising consistently or eating healthier--is because they fail to prepare. Anyone can set a goal, but it takes preparation, planning and motivation to see it through to the end. Take this assessment to find out if you're on the right track to reaching your goals!

Looking for a Mind-Body-Spirit Connection

Try these fitness classes: Any type of Yoga (Hatha, Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Bikram), Tai Chi, Yogilates (a combination of yoga and Pilates), Stretching and Flexibility classes, Budokon, Qigong, or Water Fitness. All of these classes require you to focus on the present moment and become more connected to your body. The movements are slower and more controlled, low-impact, and taught by certified instructors that can help you adapt each exercise or pose to your own level of fitness, allowing gradual progression. Taught in a non-competitive environment, students are encouraged to listen to their own body, not to overstretch or try to mimic other exercisers.

Workout vides to try:Taebo: The Power Within, Tai Chi Daily Practice with David Dorian-Ross, Qigong for Stress Relief, Budokon Beginning Practice with Cameron Shayne, Yoga for Beginners with Patricia Walden, Cathe Friederich's Stretch Max

I love water aerobics and I have always wanted to take a Tai Chi class. Very interesting quiz Becky. Thanks for getting me to take it.

I found this interesting and so, so true! I have a Pilates machine and love Pilates. I love my balance ball and BOSU too, and when I was a young girl I used to do ballet! All these things were true.

Today I am setting up my Pilates Machine again and begin using it again!

Looking for Functional Training

For you, exercise serves a preventive, therapeutic purpose. You want to maintain a strong core, decrease pain, and stay active and limber as you age so that you can live a healthy, independent life. You're more interested in maintaining long, lean muscles and good posture than running a marathon or benching heavy weights. There are many group fitness options for exercisers like you who want functional strength and an overall healthy body.

Try these fitness classes: Mat Pilates, Reformer Pilates, Ballet Workouts, Functional Training, BOSU, Abs classes, Core Strength, Yogilates, Balance Ball, or Balance Training. All Pilates classes focus on the core muscles (abs, obliques, hips, back), which help you balance and maintain good posture. Functional training classes mimic movements that you do in real life, helping you stay strong and limber, while BOSU, Abs, Core, and Balance classes all focus on the core, balance, posture, and proper body mechanics. Overall these types of classes tend to be low-impact and focus on balancing the body.

Workout videos to try: Balance Ball Beginner's Workout, Pilates Powerhouse, New York City Ballet Workout, Crunch Super SlimDown Pilates Yoga Blend, Stott Pilates Essential BOSU, Core Secrets

14 out of 16. I missed the bread one, too. Wasn't quite awake, so I interpreted "index" card as "playing" card. Dumb. I did get the peanut butter one right because I love peanut butter on my apple and I always measure out 2 TBLS. (well, *heaping* tablespoons if I'm going to be honest here...)

I'm with you on the peanut butter. I always eat 1 TBL, not 2, so I missed that one. I really debated over it because I know that the jar of PB lists 2 TBLs as a serving.

i got 11 of 16. said i had knowledge but need to read more on it. but i missed the ones related to size because i chose the wrong sizes. like peanut butter for example, i always just eat one tablespoon so i chose that. also i picked wrong size of yogurt. my juices i drink have 8 oz as the serving size not 6. so i know where i got them wrong. i bought a digital scale for Christmas to help me get the right food portions.

That's funny! Because I under estimated some of my sizes too! The slice of bread was a surprise to me... I thought the size of your palm... YIKES! It is the size of an "index card"... NO WONDER!!

13 out of 16, and on the 3 that I missed I underestimated the portion size. This quiz shows that I have a lot of knowledge, but the number on my scale says that I'm not always using it... Knowing and doing are so different!

I think that portion control is probably the #1 problem amongst all of us who are struggling to get our weight under control. You did GREAT!

I totally blew it on the dried fuit and juice questions as I don't do either of those. Also, I never would have counted a potato or beans as a vegetable serving since I think of them as a starch and protein, I guess it's due to being careful with my husband's diabetes. Very good information for me though-thanks for the quiz Becky!
