It appears that all of us have been taking breaks this week.. I just downloaded my pedometer information to see what I've done... and YIKES! NOTHING!! Must be the weather!

The month is almost over. I think we will finish the Island Hopping Challenge and come up with something different for the month of November. Any suggestions of what you would like to do?

Westie Fans!

Ok, I just got back from my walk, so here are my miles for the week:

Mon.5/21: 4 mi. walk
Tues. 5/22: 5.75 mi. (Turbo Jam)
Wed. 5/23: 5.75 mi. (Turbo Jam)
Fri 5/25: 5 mi. (Conservative estimate for 10 hours at
the fair)
Sun. 5/26: 5 mi. walk

TOTAL: 20.5

No wonder my poor feet hurt so much! That's the most mileage I've put on them in a long time.

Hi Beth - I have to admit that I have joined the Westie team under false pretenses - my Ailie is a Cairn Terrier/Miniature Schnauzer mix, but when I first joined SparkPeople, Becky saw one of my photos and thought Ailie was a Westie. SO, I am now calling her my Faux Westie and trying (without much success) to keep her trimmed and neat (instead of her usual scruffy self) so that she can pass as an ugly Westie with very large ears.

So far we have 105.71 miles posted for our first Island Hopping Challenge. The information I got about the island was different than the miles I get from staying on the highways. We are almost completely around the island already. Check out the map I created named ISLAND HOPPING CHALLENGE 9/20 under my user name REBECKY44. I just mapped the miles out and we are almost at Pearl Harbor!

I think we should tackle the Big Island next, Hawaii. What do you think? LOL There's a town named "Captain Cook". Captain Cook was my hubby's Great-great-great-great(4x) Grandfather. Captain Cook's daughter married Richard's Great-great-great (3x)Grandfather. The funny thing with that is ... our daughter married a Hawaiian. She said that she kept that part of her family history a secret from them until they got to know her better. Captain Cook was not very popular among the Hawaiians! LOL

Hi Julie!! Glad to have you here! LOL We could walk 227 .. but it wouldn't be as much fun! This way we are doing it together as a TEAM!

So glad your feet are feeling better! It's makes a huged difference to get the right shoes.

I was just gathering up the miles to work on doing the map up so we could see how far we've gone, so I'm glad you got this week's miles in.

Hi Becky (and all others)! Can I still join your challenge? I bought new walking shoes the other day and my feet don't burn and tingle anymore when I walk. I got Dr. Scholl's in wide width and it makes all the difference in the world! I converted my kickboxing minutes (what a great chart) and walked 3x so far. I was really busy for 3 days last week, so didn't get in as much exercise as usual.

Sept. 14: 4 mi. (walked)
Sept. 15: 4.25 mi. (kickboxing)
Sept. 17: 4 mi. (walked)
Sept. 20: 4 mi. (walked)
TOTAL: 16.25

Becky, I thought when you first invited me that we EACH had to walk 227 miles around Oahu and I thought, "Wow, those gals must really walk a lot!" That would be 6.5 miles every day for 30 days!

We've traveled 66.35 miles around the Island of Oahu! Wow! We're doing great!

If you are wearing a pedometer all day, I think it would be ok to count all your steps for the day if you wanted to. The purpose of the challenge is just to get "moving".

Both places are really the similar, but I am only keeping track of the Challenge miles. The Sept Log is really for your benefit to have someplace to log your minutes, steps and miles. If you want to go back and make an adjustment to the miles 'moved' in the "Challenge" so far, please feel free to make those changes.

This is supposed to be fun and to get us moving. It's my first time to work up a 'Challenge' so there are a lot of things to think about in making it work right. Maybe by the time we finish Oahu and move to the next island we can get all the kinks worked out! LOL

AND... don't forget to mark off your Spark People "Other Goals" so you can earn those valuable Spark Points!

Is it clear as "mud"? LOL

I have a question for this challenge I have only been counting the miles that I walk with Bella at a fast pace without stopping, I don't count the long leisure walks where I let her sniff everything because these aren't really cardio since they are stop and go right?

Also do you want us to keep posting our miles she here and in the September Log miles entry?

So far this team has walked almost 20 miles! 19.44! WooHoo! There is only 207.56 to go.

We need help from the rest of the team! We could walk Oahu in a week if we had the whole team participating!

I think we should count step miles. There is a link to a conversion chart on the original post for other activities. I personally like to Spin, and when I spin for 50-60 min I go 14 to 17 miles. That converts to about 2.5-4.0 miles if I were walking depending on the intensity.

I wear my pedometer all day because I am shooting for 10,000 daily steps. You can also use your accumulated daily steps. When walking Buddy I always wear my pedometer and add those steps in my Fitness tracker.

However you can get your step miles... let's add them up!

It's not an exact science, have fun with it. The idea is to just get moving. Be sure to mark it in your Spark Fitness so you can get points for it too!

Are you counting pedometer steppings in this challenge along with the walking? or miles from WATP's DVD?

Let's walk around the Islands of Hawaii! First challenge: to walk around Oahu which is 227 miles.

We will begin at Diamond Head heading for H-72. By joining together we can add our miles up and see how many Islands we can conquer! It should be fun!

Just check in with the Team at least once a week and post your total walking miles. I will post the accumulated miles to indicate where we are. You can also keep track of your personal totals by using Spark People's Fitness Map!

SO COME ON TEAM! This will be fun! What better place to be than Hawaii this time of year? Don't forget to bring your favorite partner along! Dogs are allowed on this trip!

Those who would prefer to bike ride or use any other activity to count for walked miles -- there is a conversion chart that can be used to convert those "activity" miles to "walked" miles.
