My goal for this week is to work on drills for at least 30 minutes a day, 5 days this week. 2010 is my year of the solo; and I haven't been dancing because my execution is no longer representative of how I'd like to show myself. Only one way to fix all that: practice practice practice, and then DANCE!

I joined a gym this week, and last night I used the empty classroom (with the lovely hardwood floors and mirrors lining one wall) to move around for a while. It was perfect--no interruptions, no excuses and no one to get in front of me while I'm checking my form in the mirror! Like a home studio that I don't have to clean :).

Come join me in the May 2010 15 minute cleaning challenge! Because we need all the support we can get :).

Agreed. I didn't eat dinner tonight until I logged all my previous meals in to make sure I didn't necessarily go over my calories. I will try my best to continue with this as long as I can.

Good luck to you.

Hello, I'm new to this team, but I love the art of Belly Dancing. I picked it up after I had my first child, but shortly had to drop it after being pregnant with my second and third. I'm done having children now, and am ready to kick-start my routine again, but now I'm a little rusty. I practice with Suhaila Salimpour as often as I can, because, as you can imagine, my life is busy. I cram a million things into one day, and here I go again.

My goal this week is to devote 30 minutes a day to my belly dancing exercises. I hope to make it an unmovable and timed activity in my life. emoticon

My goal this week is to stay on top of logging my nutrition and fitness activities. The only time I successfully lost weight was when I diligently kept track of what I ate. If I can squeeze in the time to keep up with monitoring my diet and make it a regular part of my routine, I think I can lose the pounds by my target date.

I hope to practice the choreographed dance for class enough this week that it will be more a part of body memory than conscious thought. That way I won't go the wrong way on my grape vine again! That, and when my teacher adds more to the dance next week I won't feel overwhelmed.

Being conscious of what you are doing is tough. My hardest times are on weekends when I tend to go out to eat or to friend's houses. If I am outside my house it is MUCH harder to track calories. It's amazing how many calories are in a few tropical mixed drinks or a fish taco. I'd love some ideas - besides staying at home of course. I'm right on track until Friday rolls around...

And if anyone knows of any good classes in the Inland Empire (SoCal) please let me know. I'm looking to get back into dancing after a few years off. I've been dancing on and off for 12 years.

Don't believe the hype. -Public Enemy

So what's your plan for being mor conscious? Are you tracking what you eat and then writing down the life events as they happen to you? Are you using some sort of checklist? Have you narrowed your focus to what exactly you want to be conscious of?

Back on track!!!

I've been feeling like a loser for the past few weeks and this morning as I journaled and asked questions ... I discovered it's because all my long time "tapes" in my head are gone. I spent 45-days focusing on my long time list of goals for menu planning and I've mastered everyone of them.

Now, I see that it's just a matter of me knowing that I'm practicing and gaining experience. That as I do those 2, my self-confidence that I'm going to be doing it will increase. And as it does, I'm going to be free to start letting go of my weight loss life pattern and move on to living my life at long last!

BABE you are already there!! You signed up for SP and Weight Watchers!! all you wanted was to get moving and you are. It's a healthy pattern you've made ... and just know, it's all about practicing over and over again each time we pick ourselves up. As we become more comfortable with our new habit, it slowly isn't in our line of sight because it's our life style.

That is so true!! I just read yesterday that it takes ~12 weeks to really see the changes strength exercises do .. I figure it's because of the flab on my body.

My goal changed in 2006 when they diagnosed me with pre-diabetes and metabolic syndrome. I went from just focusing on less calories to switching out the unhealthy foods and ingredients like TRANS FAT and HFCS. Took me some time to practice it .. now, it's automatic for me.

I plan on losing 1-1.5#s a week -- that will give my body plenty of time to re-adjust. I don't have to change out my exercise regime -- just have to switch out the exercises I do that particular day.

Like if I do ABS, I select a couple to do and then do a different set the next time.

And you are so right! I find that I get moody and have no energy when I don't exercise. And when I do exercise in the morning, I'm able to do more and not want to sit down in front of the TV set.

This is just my goal for this week. When I plateau, I will amp up the activity level. It is at a minimum, at this point because my first goal was simply to get moving and that's what I'm doing and I'm happy with the success I am having, though it is not a dramatic visual change, there is a notable emotional and personally physical change. I feel different and I think this is a great start.

I'm not here for fad-minded goals. I'm here for realistic, long-term goals. It's not so much about the poundage on the scales as it is about toning and taking the opportunity to make healthier eating choices. The pounds will drop because I'm trying to build more muscle, which will burn the fat and define my body underneath it all. :) I feel incredible and it will only get better. ~tj~

So losing 2#s a week is your goal? What are your plans for when you plateau ... we always plateau because our body needs time to make adjustments to the exercise and healthier foods we are eating. Usually lasts 2 weeks.

Though this week is nearly over, my goals are to drop, at least, another two pounds. I can feel my body burning, as I've increased my activity level and decreased my daily calories. We shall see! :)

I've set up my Feb. focus goals already and have begun to move out on them:

G1: get back into my exercise regime (by xmas I had stopped completely) - M/W..Strength; T/Th..AQ; F..Dance; Sa..SW ... anything else is gravy!

G2: Practice Practice Practice Meal Planning .. I have 7 tasks I will be focusing on in Feb. (I spent Jan. focusing on this goal 24/7 and finally worked thru the barriers -- I'm using Dr. Phil's WEIGHT LOSS SOLUTIONS -- been focused on his program since 9/03 and it's working!)

G3: Practice MINDFUL SPENDING.

I find that having 3 goals for the month allows me to focus my energies and to achieve them.

My biggest goal is to survive the weekend, noting what I've eaten, getting my water in, and getting in my exercise. I need to make better choices and not overeat. Last weekend, my first weekend, was really hard, but I pulled through. ~tj~

Reached my goal November 2009!

A friend and I have started meeting at the gym 3 days a week. Tuesdays is water aerobics, Wed is cardio & strength training, Thursday is yoga class. I want to start using at least one of my many dvd's (and not just watching the performance parts LOL) on my not-gym days. I think I'm going to go back to basic and start with my Gypsy Caravan Tribal Techinque 1 dvd :)

Now that my birthday is almost over, I can get back to eating right and drinking lots of water. I also need to make sure I get my exercise in on Thursday and Friday. Today was a bust because of grocery shopping (and hubby interrupting my yoga).
