Just a quick update as I have been zooming around all morning and none of it was sparking type activities. I'll have to come back on later for a proper update. Had a blast with strength training yesterday, as usual. Next week I start the twice a week program. Fortunately I was able to get scheduled for that. My trainer is in such high demand that I usually schedule a month in advance so I went ahead and scheduled till mid-June!

Cathy - Ugh, leprosy! Did Randy wash his hand for like a week afterward? lol. I would have regardless of my genetic background! My most recent social groups I met through meetup.com after sifting through over 200 meetup groups. People create meetups for the craziest reasons, but hey, whatever makes them happy! Yes, blog.... today, hmmmm, hopefully will get to it.

Amy - Sleep? I got 7 1/2 hrs last night after 2 consecutive nights of 5 hrs, ugh. I think the trick for me is to get my butt in bed before 10! Otherwise I pitter and patter around till midnight. :/

Talk to you all later!!!

Have a great Friday!

Hello Tulips,

It's always a pleasure to be on the same team with you Alex! I too have enjoyed being on this team! I'm sorry you have had a difficult month but glad that we helped you through it. I am honored to have you as one of my friends! I very much appreciate all of the support and encouragement all of you give out!! I will miss having you guys if we are not on the same team next month!

Pollywog got us up early this morning. Took a little nap later in the day. No rain today and the sun was shining. Can you say WOOHOO! lol I got the hummingbird feeder put out today. Man, it's no wonder they like the sugar water so much. 1 part sugar to 4 parts water. Yeesh! But then when you wings beat as fast as their does as well as their heart, they probably need the calories to burn. :-)

Did my ST tonight and tomorrow is yoga again. I doubt things will be dried up enough to where we can take Pollywog for her walk or to go for a hike but I'm hoping that I'll be wrong.

I will be posting my blog tomorrow. Just have a little left to write on it then I'll post it.

Alex - I'm glad you enjoyed getting outside and doing some gardening! I felt the same way when I first started gardening. I agree that there is just something about digging in the dirt and planting things that just makes you feel whole again. YAY for the temps & timing working out for you to not only get your walk in with your neighbor but to get some gardening done as well!! lol It pays to know people whom work for the NWS for so many years. About the armadillos, you probably didn't know that they carry leprosy?! We just thought it was an old wives tale. My hubby, Randy, petted one once. It was in front of the car where we were going to park in my FIL's driveway and he wouldn't move. So, Randy got out and he still didn't move so he petted it. He decided he didn't like that and decided to leave. Only after that did we find out that them carrying leprosy is true but only people from middle eastern descent are capable of contracting it. Randy said that the armadillo felt like a hairy basketball. lol I think it's great that you have such a full "social calendar"! It's great that you have found people that have similar interests as you. We don't frequent bars or churches either. Churches are way more predominant here with 22 churches for a town of 2, 500 people. We would like to be but we just haven't found anyone here that we can relate too. Not that there is anything wrong with being religious but we do live in the bible belt and most people here are very religious. That is pretty much the only thing they can seem to talk about here and we just aren't religious. I hope you were able to get to bed at a decent time tonight! That kind of sucks that they changed the system to where you have to sign a new contract for 2 - 1/2 hour sessions a week instead of a 1 hr deal. Oh well, what can you do abou it except go with the flow.

@Amy - I hope that were able to make sleep a priority again tonight and that you were able to continue your exercise streak.

Well, that's it for me tonight. Have a wonderful Friday and I'll talk to all of you tomorrow!!

Good morning teammates!

Wow, the 28th! I just want to mention how much I have enjoyed being on a team with all of you! This has been a very hard month for me and being on this team has helped me through, more than you all realize. I'm really not sure what I am going to write in my blog so just wanted to mention here that I appreciate all of you!

Well, yesterday was fabulous! I simply did not realize how much of a difference, getting outside and doing something like gardening would affect my life. I felt like I had woken up again. Bundling up and going out for a walk in the cold just doesn't seem to have the same impact as wearing shorts and digging in the dirt.

Cathy - I did luck out yesterday with the temps and with timing. I went out for a walk with my neighbor, after gardening, and we got back about 20 minutes before the sky opened up and poured it's heart out. Of course, my neighbor has been working for the National Weather Service for 22 years so yeah, I always know what the conditions will be and that we will always get back in time, lol. I have never seen an armadillo, except on TV! Very cool!!! And yes, I joke all the time about my "social calendar", lol. When I first moved out this way I had no friends for a long time because I don't frequent social places like bars and churches, both predominant in this area. So, now that I am quite the social butterfly, I find it very amusing... :D

Amy - Great job on the exercise streak and I really need to follow in your footsteps for making sleep a priority! It's funny because for both the 80* days we had neither were forecasted to be more than say 69*. We are expecting rain, rain, rain but it has been hit or miss, thankfully. It is super windy today. I am thinking tomorrow of going to a garden center and starting to make a plan. I am definitely ripping out the lilies since they are just basically feeding the deer who leave them as nice little nubby plants, lol. I did have a cookie and a half which put me over my limit but the limit is just there because you have to put something in there. I did an hour walk and a lot of gardening so not worrying about it. :)

Tonight my goal is to get to bed EARLY! The last two nights have been a 1230am shut eye which is not working for me. ;P

Training at the gym today so yea! Unfortunately they have changed their system so I have to sign a new contract for 2 - 1/2 hour sessions a week instead of 1x hr thing. It's okay but will eat more into my time. Ho hum... got to role with the changes.

Have a fabulous day!!!

Hello Tulips!

Feeling a bit better today after taking an iron supplement yesterday. I will be going to see my doctor in a little more than a month. She will most likely have some blood tests done so we will see then what the results are.

It rained off and on all day today. I will be glad when the sun comes out again and dries things up a bit. I haven't been on a hike for a few weeks now and miss it. I got my yoga in yesterday and today is my day off from exercising. Tomorrow is ST again and am changing up a couple of the exercises I do so that I can hopefully avoid a plateau.

Oops, I made mistake in mentioning the Antelope. I forgot to mention that was when we lived in Colorado. We lived on the outskirts of town near a reservoir where you would see Antelope often.

@Alex - Yeah, I might need a boat soon. ;-) The rivers here are overflowing and a couple of the reservoirs not far from here in northern Arkansas are concerned about the water levels. One of the reservoirs' water levels are so high that there is like only a hundred feet before the levels reach the top of the dam. Now I'm jealous about the temps you are getting up there. lol If we get out to Colorado this year like I'm hoping I will take pic's of the antelope if I see them. My mom has a few acres of land and she has wild turkeys that come in to her yard all of the time. We have them here too but you don't see them very often. We have lots of critters here besides deer and rabbits. We see armadillos all the time here. Last summer we saw 4 or 5 young armadillos all searching for bugs or whatever in the ground. We also have oppossums, skunks, raccoons, many different kinds of snakes and lots of other critters. LOL That is funny about the Buffalo! Hope you had a good time with your meet-up group and with your friend who came to visit you! Hope you didn't eat too many cookies. :-) You know I've never had a macaroon! Heard of them but have never had one. You are a social butterfly aren't you! ;-) I don't think it's unreasonable to want your "local" facebook friends to interact more offline! The only reason I have a facebook account is because everyone of the friends I have on facebook are in another state and we also have several fan pages for our business.

@Amy - It sounds like you had a good day with your students despite the heat and humidity. WOOHOO!! AWESOME!! WAY TO GO on your exercise streak!!!! LOL Shorty! No, Pollywog (Shorty) doesn't care too much about any of the critters that are on the other side of the fence anymore. She use to go crazy about the squirrels and the deer. When we were living with my in-laws while our basement was being built the people behind them owned a dairy farm. Polly and her sister use to go nuts when they'd see the cows on the other side of the fence. Alas, my little Pollywog is old enough now to where she doesn't care. Besides, after we had to put her sister down she changed... She tends to be nervous around other dogs and animals whereas before she use to have the attitude that she was this big, bad, mean dog that was the size of a Mastiff. Hope you were able to get some shuteye and that you are having a better day when you read this. :-)

Goodnight ladies and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Hi Tulips,

This really is going to be quick tonight, because I have to get a decent night's sleep - I exercised late last night and was still awake at 2 AM! Today was a good day, but a bit too warm for me. I don't like humidity and it was sticky in my classroom, making me "not such a happy camper." I managed to get through it with a smile though...my students have been really good and they worked hard today -they started their dinosaur reports.

I'm making an exercise streak for myself, five days in a row now! I only did a 1 mile Walk Away the Pounds tonight along with 10 minutes of yoga to relax me, so I could sleep better. I wanted to do the yoga in the morning before school to get myself in the right mood, but I was too tired this morning. I hope to feel more refreshed tomorrow morning.

Alex...wow, you really had a heat wave up there! Same today? I'm looking forward to gardening this weekend - it's supposed to be sunny and in the mid 60's -perfect IMO. How was your social evening with your group and friend? Hope you didn't eat too many cookies! Were they the coconut ones I saw you wrote about on your status a few days ago?

Cathy...I say wow to the antelope, too!!! Neat! Doesn't Pollywog emoticon go wild if they are in your yard? My two bark like crazy if they see something outside - be it a rabbit or people walking by on the street! I do love them though, even though they cause headaches sometimes. Sorry you've had so much rain and the flooding! I hope you are seeing sunshine soon!

Well, gotta get some shuteye! Have a terrific Thursday! I hope to get my blog written tomorrow night.

Cathy - Oh my goodness, shall I send a boat over? Eeps, that is a lot of water for it to be seeping in like that, ugh. It's been pouring here to but today, yea, is sunny outside so I am definitely getting out into my garden, no matter how soggy it is, lol. Antelope? Really? Wow, that has got to be a sight! Please do take pictures if you get a chance. I live near the city so the only thing we have is deer and the usual "flower loving" critters. The most exotic animals I see are when I pass the Buffalo at the zoo when I walk in the park. And even they get a bit nervous when I walk by since my freezer is full of bison...
emoticon

Amy - It got up close to 80 here too yesterday, or so I've been told but it was a busy day so again, no gardening. I did get hand tools but still have to pick up bigger tools like rakes and so forth. I am kind of waiting to see how things play out so I don't buy things I don't need. I just had a garden that is in front of my home, nothing huge. And I am not sure if someone else takes care of raking and so forth... we'll see. Oh and I wouldn't call it woods exactly that are near me... Just big areas where they can't build houses because of power lines, ravines and so forth so the deer just multiply like crazy! I'll have to snap some pictures...
emoticon

Well, I have to dash to the store for, um, cookie supplies, lol. I have a Joseph Campbell Meet-up group tonight and want to treat them to some macaroons that are (1) gluten free) and (2) actually fairly balanced in macro-nutrients, although VERY high calorically, lol. You can't have everything! I have a friend visiting later too but I am really, really, hoping I can get out and do something with my garden. Me and my social calendar, lol....

By the way, I just totally deactivated my facebook account and am FREE!!!! Woohoo!!! I prefer Spark anyway and want to actually force some of my "local" facebook friends to, I don't know, actually interact offline! Like is that unreasonable???

Hello Tulips,

Sorry for not getting on here to update you but we had problems with water coming up through the floor in a couple of spots yesterday and had to move some boxes out of the way of the water. We also had to put a bunch of towels down and keep shop vac'ing the floor every hour to keep the water from going into other parts of the basement. It's actually been a blessing in disguise that we haven't finished our basement. Things keep popping up that we need to solve and would have been much more expensive if our basement had been finished.

I at least got my ST in last night. I've been feeling so tired after exercising lately. I got to thinking about it and this happened about a year and a half ago like this. I had found out that I was anemic. So, I've started taking iron again. a lower dosage than last time, but I still have to be careful because last time I ended up with an obstruction in my lower bowel. I'm hoping that the iron will help me to start feeling a little better.

My back is feeling almost back to normal now. Having hubby massage it, taking it easy on certain exercises and putting mineral ice on it seems to have helped.

@Alex - I too am glad that we have an extra day to total our points after the end of the week's challenge. It really does make it much easier to get the points totaled. Thanks again for being the captain this month!! Glad you aren't made of sugar!! We'd miss you if you melted in the rain. :-p LOL Love your comment about the chickens and cows not observing Easter!! We have problems with dear and rabbits eating flowers and such around here too. If I ever get around to planting a a veggie garden I'll have to put up lots of fencing to keep all the critters out. It's funny I just remembered how after we put new grass down in our front yard the antelope would come and lay down in our yard in the very early hours of the morning until the sun came up. It took us a while to figure out why our grass was flattened. lol

@Amy - Yes, Pollywog definitely minds the thunderstorms!! She just pants and shakes terribly. No matter how much we hold her and try to console her it doesn't do any good! We've had a lot of flooding here. My FIL tried to come up here last night but couldn't because one road the river had flooded the bridge and the other road has one really low spot that had flooding. We never had much problems with any of our pets having accidents in the house until they got older. Thor, Pollywog's dad was having quite a few accidents in the house as he got older and got confused. We had to start taking him out every couple of hours which worked. It's hard telling why Max might have started having accidents in the house. It could be what you said. I can tell you love your fur babies a lot! :-) Glad you are feeling better. Glad you got to spend so much time gardening yesterday! Hope you can get your allergies under control soon.

Well I gotta go for now. Talk to you all later!

Good evening, Tulips!

Hope everyone had an enjoyable day! It was beautiful here again, but a bit too hot for this time of year - up to 80. I also didn't get to be outside at all, because I was back to school and didn't get home till 7:00 - stopped at the store on the way home. We didn't end up having dinner till 8. Yesterday though, I enjoyed the sunshine - I spent three and a half hours gardening, and yay! I was able to put it in my Fitness Tracker, and can put in 210 minutes in for the activity part of this week's challenge (I did 30 minutes of yoga, too.) For my gardening, I was weeding, raking, and pushing/dumping the wheelbarrow. We had all these dried leaves stuck in the bushes in the garden in the middle of our front yard. All the leaves from up the hill in our neighborhood blow into our yard over the late fall/winter, and they are so hard to get out. Then there are tons of green onions and thistles all over - plus we had some inside the middle of the bushes! I barely got half of the front gardens done, but I did enjoy myself being outside. We are so far behind, due to all the rain we've had this month.

My allergies seem to be getting somewhat better. I didn't have any problems in school until the afternoon when I started my dry coughing-and then it's just challenging to continue teaching, even after taking some sips of water. The worst time is now though with the sore throat back. I have been using the Neti pot to help with the congestion. I'm thinking that maybe I should see an allergist and look into getting shots.

Alex - thanks for sending me the info on the light. I will have to check it out, although I probably won't buy one till next fall (I shouldn't have any problem at this time of year.) It must be nice to live close enough to town to walk. I did that a lot my senior year of college when I lived off campus (very long ago!!!). LOL about the chickens and cows not caring about when the holiday is being observed!! I hope you get to experience more flowers in your gardens, and they aren't all eaten by the deer and rabbits. Do you have a lot of woods near you? We only have daffodils from bulbs - but a lot of perennials and grasses in our gardens.

Well, it's been quiet from everyone else lately, so I hope everyone is okay! Hopefully nice weather has arrived in your area and you are busy enjoying it! I think we are in for thunderstorms again tomorrow.

Have to go upstairs and do a short workout. Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Good Morning Tulips,

Wow, the 26th of April already! Time is just rolling along, isn't it?!

I did get a walk in yesterday. I walked to the hardware store and bought some garden hand tools, then to the farmers market for some butter and finally around the park (with the big waterfall) and home. Lovely walk for sure though I was a bit beat near the end. I wasn't walking super fast, perhaps it was just the extended time walking around. Oh how sad our ancient ancestors would be, lol. Of course, as soon as I got home I hopped into my car for a trip to the grocery store. ;)

This morning was my milk run. Since yesterday was Easter Observed according to the calendar, and the farm owners are mennonites, I decided to hold off till today even though I ran out of milk. Now that I think about it, I am sure it was just a normal day for them since the cows and chickens really don't care what is being observed! The observation is probably just for banks and schools, lol, what do I know...

Amy - We are quite a bit behind the rest of the country. I did notice yesterday that a willow tree had green on it though and the forsythias are doing their best to be yellow. Some flowers have been coming up from where people planted bulbs. In my garden, I have one pink flower that did not get eaten to the nub by the dear or rabbits. I planned on gardening yesterday but it was pouring down very heavily. The recipes are my personal cookie recipes that I am giving away because I no longer make them. Well, there are one or two that I am not giving away because I can substitute and make those.

Sunlamp: yes, I spark and sunbathe at the same time, so to speak. I'll post it to you in a private message since there is a rule about posting products on board, somewhere listed in all the rules, lol.

Anyway, hoping everyone else is doing well!

I can hear the thunder off in the distance, hmmm. Not sure if I am going to get a walk in today or not.

Happy Monday Morning, Tulips!

I wanted to write a post here last night after we got home from my sister's, but I ran out of time and wanted to get a decent night's sleep! If I didn't force myself to log off the computer, I could easily go into the early morning hours! Actually, I recently got myself my first SparkBuddy from another SparkTeam to motivate me to get in my exercise each day (I just set a goal of 10 minutes a day to begin,) so I came home and did a 20 minute balance ball DVD at 8:30 last night! I was pretty proud of myself for not conking out on the sofa instead! Then I sent her an email to let her know I got it done!

I had a nice day yesterday. Hope everyone else did, too! The weather started out beautifully, and I was going to take the dogs out for a walk, but because of our big Sunday breakfast time (it's the day we have some kind of omelet - my dh is the omelet maker king! - all other days we have our daily Atkins shake for breakfast,) and getting food ready to take to my sister's, I didn't get out in the morning, and then it got too warm by noon, believe it or not! It was humid and in the high 70's, and I started getting a bad sore throat again. I still have it - it only goes away temporarily when I take sudaphedron and tylenol. I still think it's allergies, but I'm starting to get more concerned and may call the doctor to see what they think.

I ate pretty well yesterday. I did end up buying a little bit of Easter candy for my son, and also to put in a few candy bowls in the house (sugar-free jelly beans and robin malted milk balls - my favorite!) I had a few of each, and now I'm not really interested in them at all. I think that's amazing actually! It shows how I'm not addicted to those "bad carbs" anymore. The same thing happened at Easter dinner at my sister's. I had small portions of everything, so I wouldn't think I deprived myself. I had ham, asparagus, salad, one small spoonful of potato casserole and pineapple souffle, and one glass of wine (well, it was a big wine glass! LOL) The dessert she had was the worst thing, because I had a bigger piece than I should have. My sister said she was going to make a light dessert for me, but it really wasn't. It was an angel food cake with lemon curd filling and boiled icing (kind of like a cake and lemon meringue pie mixed together.) They put candles on it to sing Happy Birthday to my son, and then I ended up taking his piece of cake, because he didn't like it. I, of course, grew up being a member of the Clean Plate Club, so I finished the whole thing! I do much better just asking for a small sliver!

We had some good family time! Sean was happy (that makes a big difference for us!), because all of the Philadelphia teams won (76ers still alive-finally won a playoff game, the Flyers in overtime, and the Phillies - hot again this year!) I took some pictures of my parents outside on my sister's patio (before the storms hit!) because they looked so cute together (color-coordinated in blue,) and then Dave took a picture of me with my mom, since I don't have one of just the two of us. I am thinking ahead to the photo blog that I have seen quite a few people do, and that I plan to do this summer when I have more time.

This morning I also woke up with TOM - finally! So I got on the scale, and sure enough my weight was down. I have been so bloated and cranky from PMS for over a week! Despite my allergy complaints, my mood is so much better now! Yay! I hope to get some things done on my to-do list -namely gardening. There's supposed to have a chance of thunderstorms again, but I think I can get a few hours in this morning.

Well enough about me!

I can't believe this is the last week for the April challenge. The months go by so fast! I think we all did great this week! Everyone wrote a blog -must have been a fun topic! LOL Cathy, you did a tremendous job with your ST! Wow!!!!! This week I promise to have more exercise minutes - I'm really going to work on it!

Alex - you truly are amazing, walking in all kinds of weather! I am so much a fair weather walker (kind of like a fair weather golfer! LOL) The best part of all of this rain is the beautiful green grass! I loved our ride across the country roads to my sister's yesterday. Everyone's yards looked gorgeous with the green grass, flowering trees and tulips/daffodils/hyacinths in the gardens. In a couple weeks the azaleas and rhododendrons will be out. How far behind is everything there? Are there any flowering trees yet? The visit with your friend on Saturday must have been fun! LOL that you never got around to talking about the drum! What are some of your favorite recipes that you printed out?

Cathy - glad you didn't have a tornado where you live - the thunderstorms are bad enough!!! Does Polliwog mind the thunder and lightning? We are fortunate that none of the dogs we've every had have been frightened of storms. I also was lucky last night that it wasn't storming when I had to take Max and Sophie out when we got back. It started up again about a half hour later. We had some flash flooding last night on the roads coming back home. I think I am going to do my blog for this week on my walk with Sean at our local park and include the pics I took. I have a picture of the lake with a picnic table in it - that's how far up the water is! The streams and lakes are so high here! We used to let our dogs have free run of the house, until they started having "accidents." It was mostly Max, our older, male dog who started lifting his leg to mark his territory. Very frustrating, because we didn't know what started him doing it (maybe to show Sophie that he's the master of the house?) It's a hard habit for him to break once he started it! Both of them are very good, loving dogs besides that though!

Kate - what a great deal on the ham! Hope you had a fun day yesterday! Oh, I have to make something with strawberries now that you have my mouth watering for them! Let's motivate each other to get the exercise in this week - no excuses!!! I'm feeling pretty fine now, so it's easy to be motivated LOL! Hope it will last!

Well, I'm kind of glad we don't have to do articles this week. I will enjoy reading them in my email and not have to report on them. I did benefit from them, though! Alex, the SAD one has my interest. I considered getting a lamp at one time, but never did. I'd be interested in hearing what kind you have. Do you do your Sparking while you have it on?

I sure wrote a book today...and I could write more, but the gardening is calling me. You sure can tell when I'm feeling better! LOL

Have a marvelous Monday everyone!

emoticon to everyone who got their points in thus far! I like that we end on Saturday and have till Monday to add them up. It seems to make it easier for everyone because we all have different schedules and internet time frames, so to speak.

Well, if I EVER get off this computer this morning, I am thinking of walking to the local True Value to see if they have Fiskar garden tools. They are the only ones listed on the Fiskar website and fortunately they are within walking distance. Yes, rain, rain, rain, but I am definitely not made of sugar so I don't plan on melting at this point, lol.

Cathy - Yes, I did end up having a nice walk (5.3 miles, 90") despite the intermittent sprinkles. I listen to podcasts so just keep my hand over my pocket so my device doesn't get wet. There were quite a few people out too which is always nice to see. Tornadoes? Yikes!!!! I am glad you have a basement to retreat to!! Yeah, I am not a big fan of hanging out on the computer in huge lightening storms despite the safety of power strips.

Okay, really, I am getting off this computer now! emoticon

Have a wonderful day everyone.

Good evening Tulips,

Man, I think more than 3 thund & lightning storms is per day is more than enough! For the last 4 days we've had at least 2 or more thunder & lightning storms each day and yesterday we had at least 5! We'd have a storm that would last a couple of hours then we'd have no rain for an hour or so and then another storm would come in. We've had more than 12" of rain in the last 4 days!! The ground is so full of water that water is coming up through the concrete in a couple of places in our basement and our dry creek bed behind our house has water running through it. DH had to take Pollywog outside to go pee because even though she had to go she wouldn't go out by herself. With all this rain I'm not going to be going for a hike anytime soon especially since it's suppose to rain through tomorrow and again on Wednesday. I feel like I should have webbed feet. lol It does this every spring but I guess I never really get use to all of this rain. We had tons of lightning yesterday and was afraid to turn my computer on with so much lightning going on. Needless to say I only had my computer on for a short time yesterday. At least I got my yoga in and a tiny bit of ST yesterday. :-) No tornados right in my area that I know of thankfully but a suburb of St. Louis got hit by a pretty big tornado last night. I'm glad we have a basement that's basically a concret bunker. I feel pretty safe in our basement.

On another note, we watched a movie yesterday called Zombieland. Seriously funny movie! I didn't expect it to be a funny movie.

@Alex - Glad you and your buddy had such a good time talking that you forgot about the drums and didn't get to bed until 12:30. It sounds like you two had a lot to talk about. :-) YAY for getting 8 hours of sleep the other night!! Yeah, taking a break from something is a good thing sometimes. :-) Glad you like shattering illusions! lol About the deep knee bends...I think if you are trained to do them properly and don't have knee problems then I don't see anything wrong with doing them. Hope you had a nice walk this morning!

@Kate - That's cool that you got a ham for Easter that you only paid $3 for! Glad to hear that your not getting the tornados like Missouri has been getting. When we watched Storm Chasers earlier this year they said that most tornados form here in southern Missouri and northern Arkansas. Pollywog hates the thunderstorms too. We found some herbal calming drops that you can give to your pet but you have to give the drops to them before they know the storm is coming.

Hope all of you had a great Easter!! Will talk to you tomorrow. Going to try to comment on more blogs.

It was brought to my attention that the nutrition element of Week 4's challenge may not be fair to some people ~ "Seems as though people who are dairy free or gluten free or have other dietary restrictions will not have the same opportunity for getting points in the nutrition category for week 4."
I am sorry if the challenge as written (eating from each of the food groups) creates a problem for anyone. Please - if you are on a restricted diet and eating as you have been directed to, give yourself the total number of points for the day. We're all doing this to improve our life and eating healthy is the main point I wanted to emphasize.
Also - please send me Spark Mail if you have any ideas for future challenges or blog topics.
Again, I apologize if this element of the challenge caused difficulties for anyone.

Happy Sunday Morning Tulips!

Well, it isn't "too" cold outside, fortunately, and it isn't raining so... looks like my morning walk will be okay, as long as I dress appropriately. When the weather is like this (44* on the dial) I usually take several options with me to wear, lol. It may feel okay where I live but be freezing at the park, one never knows in this area!

Had a buddy come over and hang out last night but the conversation was so good that ugh, didn't get to bed till 1230am! Really??? Wow!

I see the Week 4 challenge is up! :)

Kate - You know what? My buddy came over specifically to chat about and see my drum and you know what? We never even talked about it, go figure! Next time, lol. That'll give me time to buff up on a few riffs. :D

Hope everyone has a nice day today! Yesterday I got all my recipes written up and printed for friends! It took me the entire day, whew, so today I am going to relax and enjoy the afternoon. Yea!

Heading out for my walk... emoticon

Hi Ladies!

Hope everyone's having a great weekend so far. This morning, I went to pick up our ham for tomorrow (thanks to a gift certificate from my husband's former workplace, we only paid $3 for it!). Then a bit later, we had friends to game. Now I'm working on making potato salad to go with the ham and some boiled eggs for tomorrow AM as well. Will total it all up tomorrow.

@Amy - I've been having some motivation issues with working out too. I'm very good at deciding that I don't have time or that I'm too tired. Way to go on the vision collage! The strawberries were delish! Mostly we had them plain or put in with vanilla yogurt, but we made some fake strawberry shortcake-like desserts with the macerated ones using animal crackers as a stand-in for the cake itself.

@Cathy - Hope those tornadoes missed you guys! My father-in-law used to work at the St. Louis airport. Thankfully they're safe - the storms skipped over the Missouri river before hitting the airport. We're pretty safe down here in Atlanta so far... some scares recently but nothing like have been coming through Missouri! The brown dog doesn't like thunderstorms... we're trying to find him a home before we move to where they happen nearly every afternoon in the summer!

@Alex - Loved your blog too - I like that you take a deeper philosophical approach to the whole thing. Hope your drumming went well! Way to rock face on the ST, too!

Happy Saturday morning to you all!

Today is the last day of this weeks challenge so just a reminder to please add up your points by Monday (1pm CST, 2pm EST, 7pm London time).

Yesterday was my training day at the gym so I got mega-points for strength training. Total 343! I am so happy with my strength progress! I am now using 63 lb and 79 lb kettle bells on a regular basis! I also did this deadlift/cable row exercise with a 130lbs on the stack. Woohoo! I love being strong! It makes working out once a week worth it. I am kind of sore today but it feels good!

Today I have a buddy coming over interested in my drum. I have a full size Djembe and he has never played one so that should be fun. I haven't actually played my drum for a few months so this will be good for me too.

Big news? I got 8 hours of sleep last night!!! Woohoo! What a big difference in how I feel this morning... :)

Cathy - I love thunderstorms! But the continual rain afterward does get to be a drag. Tkaing a break is great sometimes actually, at least in my experience. It makes doing the activity more fun when I actually get to do it again. I'm glad your back is feeling a wee bit better! And yea, I love shattering illusions, lol. I do love meditation but... well...
The article you had was interesting but I disagree with one. I do very deep knee bend squats and single leg deep knee squats. We are actually designed physically to do it that way but because modern living, i.e., chairs, etc, we have forgotten and it can cause knee problems when not done properly. Many people in other countries actually sit in the deep knee squat sitting position. Just my 2 cents.

Amy - Answering blogs can take quite a while, lol. I know when it gets near the end of the challenge week, I can spend at least an hour or more just going through everyones blogs. I am subscribed to some, like everyone on this team, so it makes it easier to read as they are written. Bummer about congestion! And I know what you mean about being overwhelmed with things to do. I used to experience that so made a spark goal to do at least 10 minutes or either cleaning or organizing on a regular basis. Once I get started I am good for however long it takes but I've noticed that since I started that, it has helped me to keep up with everything. :)

Well, when I came on this morning it was time for breakfast and now it is time for midmorning snack, lol... I better get off before I am still here for lunch!

Cathy, Amy, Tuppence, Kate and Candace: Have a fabulous day and a fabulous weekend! Hoping we have sunshine for next weeks challenge!!!

List of symptoms (my comments afterward):
~ Cravings for sweets and starchy foods
~ Weight gain
~ Heavy feeling in the arms or legs
~ Noticeable drop in energy

~ Difficulty concentrating at work and at home
~ Irritability
~ Increased sensitivity to social rejection
~ Avoidance of social situations
~ Hopelessness (including suicidal thoughts)
~ Constant agitation and anxiety

I feel very fortunate to not have S.A.D. but many in my area do. The quality of sun in the Northeast is very poor. If I were to get out every day in the winter, it really wouldn't matter because the sun simply is not strong enough to produce vitamin D in the skin. That, coupled with my recent choice of finding natural ways to supplement through foods and other means instead of taking supplement pills has encouraged me to add light therapy to my morning regimen. Every morning, I have this small 10k LUX lamp I turn on for 30". I do this instead of supplementing with vitamin D. It took a lot of research to find a good lamp that was within my budget but I did and I've been using it for over a month now. I feel this is an important topic so am glad I found this article for anyone who may be interested.

Hey Tulips,

Well, today is one of those days that didn't go as planned. We had severe thunderstorms here and was without electricity for a couple of hours. Didn't get my exercise in because it was too late in the day before we got electricity back. So, tomorrow I'll be doing my yoga and hoping I can get a hike in if we aren't having thunderstorms. Although from the looks of it we're going to be having thunderstorms for the next 5 days. UGH! Oh well, I'll just have to go next week. Am thinking my body my need a little bit of a break anyways. DH massaged my back tonight so my back is feeling a bit better at the moment. I seriously need to get a really good office chair.

On another note, I put up some more pic's of where we live and some of the stuff we see on a regular basis here. :-)

@Alex - I liked your blog. So many people take for granted lots of little things in life. You know what's really sad about internet access here in the U.S.?? Estonia, a former communist country, has better internet access than most of the U.S.! Oh well, I guess you have to pick your battles. That's a bummer that it's so expensive and at inconvenient times. I understand what you mean about being a get up and go kind of gal. Here I thought you were nearly a perfect person and you shatter my illusion with telling me that you don't make time for meditation?? lol ;-) Just giving you a hard time. I too answered false to everything and usually around a 1 or 2 on the scale.

@Amy - It's really hard to be without internet access when your livelihood depends upon it. Your doggies sound like they can be a handful at times...almost like 2 little kids together. ;-) I will have to take a look at holosync. Maybe if I can make myself do it for just 10 minutes first thing in the morning before anything else. I hope you have a better day tomorrow! I'm sorry you and your hubby had a disagreement. We have disagreements now and then too but not very often. I'm glad you and your son had such a good bonding time together at the park!

@Candace - Congrats on the fitness minutes!!

@Tuppence - I hope all is well in your neck of the woods!

@Kate - Hope you aren't having too many tornados where you're at.

Here is the healthy lifestyle article I read today. It talks about 5 exercises you should NEVER do. I learned which ones not to do and what the alternative to the exercise you shouldn't do is. Really interesting things I didn't know. www.sparkpeople.com/resource/fitness

Hey, TTT!

A quick check-in - I spent the night answering blogs! I had a nice day yesterday for my son's birthday. The two of us took a 45 minute walk at the local park and had a great bonding time. I wanted to write a blog about it today and include the pics I took, but never got around to it. We also went out to dinner to celebrate.

Today it was back to being dreary and chilly outside, and I didn't feel well AGAIN. This is getting quite ridiculous!!! I did a little cleaning and wash, and a lot of Sparking, but I didn't exercise! Boo!!!! Dh and I had a bit of a disagreement today, so that didn't help matters. I am hoping for a better day tomorrow! One positive note...I finally put together my Vision Collage. I had all the pictures cut from magazines a long time ago. But today I finally arranged them and glued them on. I took a picture of it and put it on my SparkPage picture area if you're interested in checking it out. I want to make another one of all kinds of exercising, to help get me motivated. For some reason I'm stuck when it comes to working out inside. I still haven't committed to doing the workouts right away when I get up, probably because I'm feeling so lousy from the congestion. Then once I'm finally feeling half-decent, I think about all there is to do around the house and I get overwhelmed with what to do first, and end up not doing half of what I wanted to!

Alex - believe it or not, Dave, Sean and I took Tai Chi at the Y several years ago. We lasted longer than I thought we would - but didn't finish the whole class. It is slow and the instructor was very strict about having the right form. I just didn't feel comfortable with it, although I think I would like it much better if I did it in the privacy of my own home. The consistency article looks like a good one. I will definitely read it tomorrow.

Cathy - sorry you had trouble with your modem...I did awhile ago, and I was devastated without a computer! LOL (how did we survive without them?!) Yes, our dogs can't be trusted downstairs on their own, unfortunately. And we used to have them upstairs with us, but they get in too much trouble! Holosync is a type of meditation where you listen to these CDs and they have sounds incorporated in them to get your brain into a meditative state. They are expensive, but I really got into them a few years ago, and I truly believed they helped my mental/emotional state permanently (I don't get upset by things that happen anymore - I used to be a big worrier and much more stressed about things I couldn't control.) Here is the website in case you'd like to check it out! I do want to get back into it eventually - it's just that you have to devote time to it each day (another commitment.) centerpointe.com/

Kate - sorry I got Candace and you confused a few days ago with the strawberries. Do you eat them plain or make them into any special dish?

Tuppence and Candace - hope you are doing well!

Article for the day: 7 Good Reasons to Smile
www.sparkpeople.com/resource/wellnes
s_
articles.asp?id=1529&page=2

Again, this article didn't have anything I didn't already know, but it is a good reminder about how smiling can "turn your frown upside down" and really make you feel better if you're down. Anyway, here are the 7 reasons they give:

1. Smiling can make you happy (even when you're not.) I remember a study that Tony Robbins talked about in one of his CDs where they had depressed people smiling into a mirror for long periods of time, and afterwards they weren't depressed anymore. It was a way to trick your brain ijnto being happy. The article says that smilng pumps out feel good endorphins.

2. Smiling can make others happy. (so when you see someone at the grocery store who is really grumpy, remember to smile at them!)

3. Smiling makes you more attractive (I throw away any picture that is taken of me that isn't smiling - yuck! We should think about that as we go about our daily lives. Do we want people to see us like that?)

4. Smiling can help you de-stress (watch a sit-com or the Comedy Central channel after a stressful time!)

5. Smiling can help you land a job (good tip to tell my son when I go bond-walking with him next time!)

6. Smiling can lead to laughter! obviously!

7. Smiling just feels good!

So now I have a smile on my face, as I head off to bed! Pleasant dreams!

Good morning!

Okay, today is the 22nd and do you know what that means? Yes, the deadline for the fun blog! I think everyone has already written something, everyone but me... eeps. So today I have to get off my behind and get typing! Or, miss this blog challenge which would be the first one I'll have missed since joining the BSG challenge in January! Maybe once I start typing it'll be easy, that is usually the case... it is just starting it, for me, that is the hard part, especially with this topic for some reason. I've had all week to think about it so I really have no more excuses.
emoticon

Cathy - Wow, so much of our lives revolve around that wee little box (modem), lol. I have thought about doing Tai Chi in the past, even had a DVD. It is ridiculously expensive in this area to actually take classes and very inconvenient times too. There is a Qi Gong class once a week but it is very hard for me to do. I mean, it is a very easy class but I am more of a get up and go kind of gal and having to just stand there and breathe and barely move, is quite a challenge for me. I also love the idea of daily meditation but do I do it? I even have a special meditation sitting area that is perfect for it but do I ever even sit there? Give me my podcast and walking shoes and I am out the door, lol. Regarding your article, I was happy that I answered false to everything and never higher than a "3" but mostly "1". But like you, last year and each year before that I would have answered differently.

Amy - YEA for sun! (and wellness too)! Oh, and since you are doing the insomniacal Capt Morgon thing, can you write my blog too? LOL! Just kidding... Well, if you do conk out that is what coffee is for, at least in my world, hehehe. As far as the massage, I opted for the full body instead of all the focus on my neck. I did need the neck attention but didn't realize just how tense the rest of my body was so glad for that decision. My neck is still bothering me a little today but I am not going to let it stop me from working out at 10am. I was really hoping to walk to the gym but it is only 33* outside and despite the birds joyfully singing outside, I'll pass on the walk, lol. Regarding your article, I pretty much knew all that too but one thing it didn't mention is that one has to be very patient after a life long process of eating fad diets and allow the boy to heal, at least that is the case with me, sigh.

Kate - I see according to your blogs that you are still staying within range. Good for you! I think it is so admirable that you are able to get out and do some many things, including picking your own strawberries! Very cool!

Candace - Congrats on passing 31k on the fitness minutes!

Tuppence - Hope all is well with you and you are enjoying your workouts. I know you have been having a bit of time of it getting online, I do hope your internet kinks are worked out. :)

Well folks, have a great day to all of you! I am heading over to read some of your blogs and hopefully get mine written, lol....

3 Simple Ways to Build Consistency (motivation article)
www.sparkpeople.com/resource/motivat
io
n_articles.asp?id=759

1- Never tell yourself, "I'm not motivated."

That is impossible for me, lol. My life is all about the idea of living motivation. Maybe it is easier because I am an action-oriented personality. I do like my couch time but even then, I tend to be a more active observer of what i am watching rather than just staring blankly at the screen.

2- Build momentum one step at a time.

I recently read/heard that it isn't the people who "visualize" goals that are the successful ones but rather the ones who actively take small planned out steps toward their goals that get are the real successes. That would be like visualizing yourself walking at a park, getting fit, enjoying the sun, etc. No, you have to put on your walking shoes, get in the car, drive their (through traffic), park, and then actually move the body to walk to get the benefit of said fitness and sun. ;)

3- Always have a plan B.

Well, I learned this one as well as the obvious continuation of that sentence which is "...and a plan C, and D, and so on." In other words, this past year I have learned to be flexible and willing to change to accommodate the changes of my body and knowledge of nutrition and fitness. Life is not static so why would we ever think that what works now is going to work forever?

Hi Tulips,

Sorry for not checking in yesterday but our internet went out around 8 pm. Tech support said to recycle the modem but it didn't work. They came out to see what was going on this morning and it came back on momentarily around 11 am then went out, then came back on, then off, etc... until around 3 pm when it finally stayed on. Didn't do much of anything yesterday except make some pizza dough and blueberry flax seed muffins. Cleaned up the kitchen and the house a little but that was about it. I needed to take a day off. Finally got to take Pollywog for her walk today even though it started raining just as we started walking. Thankfully it wasn't raining hard. Did another 400+ reps today for ST. Tomorrow is yoga day but will try to get a little ST in too.

@Alex - Walking home in the rain with freshly pressed clothes probably wouldn't have been a good idea. lol Hope your neck is feeling better tomorrow! Glad you got your appointments switched around. Nice bonus to have your trainer as your massage therapist too! I liked the healthy article you picked out and read yesterday! Have you ever tried Tai Chi?? I'm just wondering if maybe you'd get some of the same benefits from it that you do from yoga but maybe it wouldn't be so hard on your neck. Are you neck problems from the car accident you had several years ago? Glad you liked my status update about the grasshopper and toad. :-) In the summer time we usually have to catch little tiny tree frogs that jump into the house when we let Polly out. They are sooooo hard to catch because they are tiny and quick jumpers. lol I didn't read your article on breaking free from the scale but I'm so glad I rarely ever weigh myself. It was too stressful on me to even weigh once a week because my weight fluctuates so much. Hope you'll be able to get into your garden soon to start weeding it.

@Kate - Great job on the reps and staying in your calorie range! You've got a good streak going! That's probably the only thing I don't like about living in the midwest is the tornados. We almost never got tornados where I lived in CO. They'd get them out east where it's flatter but not hardly ever so close to the mountains.

@Amy - Glad you are feeling better! Hope you have a good time at your sister's on Easter. We don't have any plans for Easter. Yes, it was my BIL's MIL (hubby's oldest brother's MIL). She had diabetes and other health problems too like high blood pressure. I only met her once so I didn't know her really. Hope you got some good reps in for your ST. No, I've never heard of Holosync. Is that where the schools try to match breaks with holidays or something?? Glad you had a great start to your day! Yikes! You didn't get much sleep last night. Hope you get more sleep tonight. I take it that you can't leave your dogs downstairs unattended? Hope you and your son had a nice walk in the park. What a great thing to do to catch up on mother - son time! I hope you are able to get a workout system in to place while on vacation so that you can be more consistent with your exercise.

@Kate & @Tuppence - Hope the two of you are having a good week!

It has a small true / false quiz in it where you also mark on a scale from 1 - 10 how big of a role you think the statement plays in your motivation problems. It was really interesting because a year or more ago I would have answered completely different than I did. According to the quiz I don't really have any motivation problems. No, I'm definitely not perfect but I think I've worked out an exercise regiment / routine that works for me which keeps me motivated.

Goodnight tulips! Talk to you tomorrow and hope all of you had a good evening!

Good morning, Tulips! And a good morning, it is! It's sunny (yay!) I don't have a sore throat (double yay!) and I have off from work! (triple yay!) Oh, and another positive is today was my weigh-in and I'm down one pound from last week, which is truly remarkable after going totally off-plan on the weekend! I was very good from Sunday on though -stayed in my calorie alottment. Can you tell I'm happy?! I just hope I don't conk out on the energy and good mood early. After posting last night, I decided to wait up for my son to come home from work to wish him a happy birthday. I wrote a birthday message on his Facebook page at 12;01, so I'd be the first one! He works at a restaurant on Wed. and Sat. night and goes to the community college taking two classes on Tues. and Thurs. I made the big mistake of having one diet Pepsi (and yes, a little Captain Morgan's rum was in it!) last night as my dessert and celebration of the start of vacation. I usually can sleep after drinking caffeine, (it really doesn't usually affect me one way or another!) But that wasn't the case last night! I decided to start to write my fun blog (on a Word document) and intended to go to bed right after my son came home (about 12:30 AM.) But I started the blog and got into it, and ended up posting it. I didn't go upstairs until 3 AM and then slept in till 6:45. Oh, well...have to work on the sleep issues again! emoticon

So far today, dh and I took my car to the dealer for inspection and maintenance work. Then I've been doing a little Sparking while spending time with the dogs. I have to go upstairs soon to get some things done (wash and cleaning, and also ST) but I don't like the idea of putting the dogs in their crates (dh works in his office upstairs and Sean is at classes.) When Sean gets home this afternoon, he asked me if I'd take a walk with him at our local park 10 minutes away called Peace Valley (it really is peaceful there - it has a beautiful lake, bike trail and nature trails.) This is something new for him wanting to do this, so I am jumping at the opportunity. I thought that would be a really nice way to spend some quality time with him on his birthday. He's just at the age, he doesn't spend a lot of time talking with me (he keeps a lot of his life private.) Tonight we will go out to dinner at the restaurant where he works and where most of his friends are.

So, those are my plans for the day!

Alex - I was hoping the snow wouldn't stick, but I wasn't sure! Congrats on the great blood test results! I hope the massage resolves the neck cramp. I am SO behind in my gardening. I still have gardens to clean out (dry leaves blow down our street and get stuck in our bushes after our fall clean up!) and many weeds to pull out! They are so prolific! Have to admit we don't spend as much time on the gardening as we used to. We used to have a big veggie garden, but no more. RVing is now our priority, but we aren't going again until the week before Memorial Day weekend, so I'm hoping for some nice days to make the yard look nice. I do enjoy working in the yard in the spring (but dislike maintenance in the heat of the summer.) This year we are going to pay our friends' son to mulch for us. I like how we are reading articles that mean something to us. I know that the scale should not be the only measurement of progress - it's just so hard to get rid of that mentality. Great article!

Here's mine for the day: It's called Kick Your Metablism Into High Gear - The Do's and Don'ts of Efficient Fat-Burning.

www.sparkpeople.com/resource/fitness
_a
rticles.asp?id=676

A lot of the tips I knew already, but they were a good reminder. Don't reduce calorie intake too low, don't skip meals, don't short yourself on sleep. Do build muscle, do stay as active as possible, don't just sit there (during tv watching or working at a desk,) exercise in the morning or in short, frequent bouts throughout the day, try interval training, and include mental exercises to manage stress (relaxation, yoga, meditation, journaling, etc.) It's one that I printed out to read over again frequently. I want to three hole punch the ones I have printed and put them in a notebook -another organizing task that is on my to-do list!

Well, I'm overdue on when I wanted to get upstairs to work (by 17 minutes) so I will post this now, and wish everyone a terrific day!

Good Thursday Morning to you all...

Today is training day at the gym... possibly. I woke up with a neck cramp so am going to try and switch my massage, which is tomorrow, to today and do the workout tomorrow. Hopefully a massage will eliminate it. Last time it took over 3 months for it to go away but then I was also doing yoga which was apparently exacerbating it. I got the results of a blood test I took 3 weeks ago and it came back good, so yea! I am "free" for another 6 months! Sweet!

Amy - Snow doesn't stick around at this time of year no matter how much we get. Of course, now that I said that, watch tomorrow dump 3 feet, lol. We got an inch or two which melted by that night. We have rain forecasted all week into next week. Come on sunny days!! Good article by the way. Good luck in setting up your system! :)

Kate - Yea, another broth person, lol. Todays task is to divvy it up into containers. I really have to go look for more broth oriented containers. Right now I just put it in anything with a sealed lid, lol. Congrats on staying within range!

Cathy - Love your update about the grasshopper and frog! Yes, Spring is here despite the snow. The weeds in my garden and joyfully flourishing so when it warms up I have to get out there and do something about it!

Tuppence, Candace - Have a great day!

And that goes for everyone, the great day reference that is, lol... Just heard from my trainer who confirmed my switching appointments so yea! I feel very fortunate that my trainer is also a massage therapist!

Break Free from the Scale (motivation article)
www.sparkpeople.com/resource/motivat
io
n_articles.asp?id=1625

The subtitle of this article is "How to stop the scale from determining your self-worth."
I love it! I have mentioned many times in blog comments, posts, and message board posts that I personally feel measurements and body fat % check is a far better way to determine progress. I wish they had a marker for that instead of a marker (ticker) based solely on the scale. Not that i don't still weight myself for some unknown reason, lol, but at least I no longer let the scale determine my day!

The article has these suggestions on how to ditch the scale in 30 days:

1. store the scale out of sight
2. start day with a positive ritual (that doesn't include the scale)
3. start measuring other healthy accomplishments
4. end your day with a pat on the back
5. weigh in after a month

Hey, Tulips!

I didn't get on here last night as I wanted to. Still had the sore throat and ended up falling asleep in front of the computer as I was looking for an article to post here! I'm feeling a bit better tonight, because I was smart enough to keep taking Tylenol for the sore throat (along with my allergy medicine and decongestant,) but mostly because I'm happy to be officially on vacation! I am not planning on doing anything special so far (except going to my sister's on Easter.) Last weekend was so busy that I need a rest, plus I have a lot to do around the house and outside gardens. Hopefully the weather will cooperate!

Kate - WTG on all the reps for ST and staying within your calorie allotment! I did some ST on Monday morning, and then when I felt lousy on Tuesday and today, did none! (So much for my promise to do 30 min. in the morning every day!) I will make up for it the rest of this week. Our rain yesterday did wash some of the pollen away - it was a medium rating today instead of very high. I hear you about the bathroom problem at school. I have the same problem. I go three hours in the afternoon with my kids without a break, so I even have to watch how much I drink at lunch!

Alex - how much snow did you get? Did the rain melt it all today? Our temps have been going up and down. Yesterday was in the mid fifties with rain, today in the 70's, and tomorrow back to 50's. I think it's going to stay cooler for most of my time off. I would love to have a couple days in the 60's (with sunny skies of course!) But, it is supposed to rain again starting on Friday and for several days after that. I am hoping the forecast will change.

Cathy - so sorry to hear about the death of your BIL's MIL (is that right?,) and that your other BIL had that heart attack scare. Very glad to hear that you didn't have a tornado! Woo hoo on the ST reps! I will have to shoot for a high number like that tomorrow. I am going to try to incorporate yoga into my exercise system (see my article below.) but the meditation routine will have to wait till summer. I used to do it all the time a few years ago, and now I'm out of the habit. Did you ever hear of Holosync? our "spring break" falls whenever it's Easter. We don't get the March break that other areas of the country (and colleges) do.

Tuppence and Candace - hope you are both doing well!

Here is the article I read tonight. It's called "The Importance of Systems in Achieving Goals." It's short and sweet - I chose it basically as a reminder that I need to develop a system that works for me to get my exercise in each day, no matter what!

www.sparkpeople.com/resource/motivat
io
n_articles.asp?id=122

During these five days off of work, I am going to get that system underway, so that I will continue it once I'm back at work. I am determined that I will conquer this inconsistency! I also plan on rereading The Spark, and get my vision collage completed (I have everything cut out, but haven't arranged and glued them on yet.) Tomorrow will also be a day for writing my fun blog (this one is not hard for me at all, because I love to have fun! I just have to work on the more active type!!!)

It's late, so I best get to bed! But yahoo! I can sleep in tomorrow! Hope I do!

Evening Ladies!

Today was another good one. That's 4 days in range (not going to lie, this challenge has definitely helped with that!). 100 reps today for ST. Looking forward to some rain to wash all of this pollen away. Not much really to report - no news is good news, I guess.

@Cathy - Glad the tornadoes failed to form in your neck of the woods. It's already been a brutal tornado season and it's just getting started. I bet Pollywog is ready for that walk. I used to meditate in the early AM before anything else - I was definitely more focused when I did that.

@Alex - Bone broth is so good. We use homemade broth and stock as much as possible in our cooking. Hope the day went well.

Hi Tulips,

I can't believe how light it is getting in the morning. That means warm weather is on its way! Today I will be babysitting my bubbling bone broth. It has about 10 more hours to go. I was going to use my errand to the Cleaners as an opportunity to walk but I don't think walking home with freshly pressed clothes in the rain will be a good idea.

emoticon

I've a lot of blogs to catch up so its that and laundry for today. Maybe I'll even write mine.

Cathy - Wow, what a stressful day you had!!! ((hugs)) I hope today is a better day for you and that you allow yourself some "me" time. Good choice of articles. I didn't go read it but am going to put it into practice Friday at 10am!

emoticon

Kate - Yikes, I always wondered about what teachers do for bathroom breaks. In all my years I don't remember ever seeing one actually head in that direction, lol. I used to be so good at "waiting" but as I get older, not so much. I don't know how you do it! Good for you though for getting more fluids in and staying within your calorie range.

emoticon

Amy - Oh no, I hope the sore throat doesn't last so you can enjoy your Spring break! Do you have any particular plans for the week or are you going to just enjoy not having to be anywhere or do anything?

emoticon

Well, that's it. I am on my 2nd cup of coffee and 2nd load of laundry. I have more "stuff" to get rid of. A local store had a sale on fleece and microfiber sheets. Love the fleece but they are only for cold, cold weather and hate the microfiber so am washing them and getting rid of them. Back to the ol' standards.

Happy day to all!

6 Weight Loss Mistakes to Avoid (motivational article)
www.sparkpeople.com/resource/motivat
io
n_articles.asp?id=532

1) unrealistic weight loss expectations (I actually used to have expectations to lose weight but since apparently my body just doesn't want to, ever, I have had to go through the process of getting rid of ALL expectations, which has not been easy.)
2) everyone is different (I used to follow every fad diet until I learned this one.)
3) weight loss is rarely consistent from week to week (I think we all know this very, very well.)
4) weight loss is not immediate (that is self-evident)
5) set backs are normal (but very, very annoying, lol)
6) eating less is not always better (So true! My caloric intake is very high for what I consider a normal intake amount. One just never knows until you try various amounts for a decent period of time, I guess.)

Hello Tulips! Yesterday was another day of being on the go. Never got a chance to sit down at the computer for more than 10 minutes at a time a couple of times yesterday. My DH's 2nd oldest brother was having symptoms of having a heart attack yesterday. Thankfully it was something related to an automobile accident he had almost 10 years ago. Also, my DH's oldest brother's MIL (mother in law) died early yesterday morning. At least I got my ST in, got 441 reps in and got to take Pollywog for her walk. Was going to take her today but a storm came on suddenly. Conditions were perfect for a tornado but thankfully nothing happened. That's one good thing about living in a hollow is that if tornado's do form they usually skip over us. Hoping to be able to take her for a walk tomorrow. Did yoga today and it always makes me feel like a completely different person. I really need to start making some time for meditation. Maybe I should make that a goal for tomorrow morning since I usually get up before DH.

@Alex - Glad you were able to help your friend move and that none of the boxes were very heavy. Yes, we definitely are a team that likes to write. lol I can't believe you got snow yesterday!! At least you do get warm temp's up there. My DH had to go to Sweden on a business trip several years ago and he said that they have 2 seasons...winter and July! lol But they are much closer to the arctic circle. That's funny about carrying your plants in and out of your house everyday and your cat eating your plants. :-)

@Kate - WTG on the reps!! Glad to hear that your apartment complex has reopened the fitness center up to 24 hours. YUM! I imagine the fresh strawberries are super good. I'm looking forward to going out into the forest to pick blackberries this summer and hoping to find more black raspberry plants in the forest to pick from. Counting the days down until school is over...you wouldn't be excited about that, would you? ;-) Great job on staying within your calorie range for 3 days in a row! I imagine that drinking too much water while being a teacher would present a bit of a problem. lol

@Amy - I can only imagine what a challenge that must have been getting your RV unstuck! Makes me think of the time when we were building our basement and the semi carrying all of the concrete blocks got stuck. :-) You guys have spring break much later than everyone in CO does. Spring break is always the last week of March which also means you can pretty much bet that it's going to snow at least one day of spring break. lol Sorry you are feeling so bad and about TOM! Hope you are feeling better tomorrow!

@Candace - I know life is busy for all of us but we all benefit from interacting with each other and hope you can make it a priority to stop in to update us. :-)

Today, I read a healthy lifestyle article on the secret benefits of massage. The article talks about how tension and stress can lead to weight gain but finding a way to relax, like getting a massage, can keep your body from producing too much cortisol. Too much cortisol can lead to too much production of insulin. Too much insulin makes your body store too much fat which also makes you crave junk food. The article talks about how the touch and pressure of massage stimulates blood flow and may hlep boost metabolism. Here is the article if you want to read more www.sparkpeople.com/resource/wellnes

Hi ladies!

Today went rather splendidly. Good on calories (3rd day in a row!). No exercise today - walking would have actually put me under my calorie range! I'm a bit sore from the weights yesterday, but it's the good kind of sore for sure. I've been unbelievably thirsty the last couple of days. Drinking as much water as I want presents a problem - when you're the teacher, you can't go to the bathroom whenever you want. (Definitely a freedom I look forward to regaining). I've been making do with 3 or 4 big glasses when I come home and 1 big glass at lunch.

@Alex - Snow is something I miss... in winter down here. One of my students (and a family friend) has a full-ride to UB as their quarterback starting in the fall. Hopefully he'll get to play often and quickly... and won't freeze to death!

@Amy - My TOM is always rough too. I hope you get back to feeling great and that your students don't tweak your strings too much! At least the rain should wash some of the pollen away.

Hi Tulips,

Sorry I didn't post last night. I came home tired and grumpy and with a bad sore throat. All I managed to do was watch a movie on Netflix and then go to bed. Unfortunately, this morning I woke up at 4:45 with the same. I know it's TOM time...yucko!!! I hate when I just feel like crying and going back to bed. The pollen count is very high and it's supposed to rain today, so that doesn't help either. Well, I hope I can have a half decent day at school. Just two more days this week and then a five day spring break! Can't wait!

Alex...oh, no! More snow! Yikes! Guess I shouldn't complain!

Hope everyone has a terrific Tuesday! I will try my best! Hope to write again tonight with responses and an article to post.

Good morning Tulips,

How is everyone today? Guess what? Yes, it snowed here yesterday... like really?
emoticon
Thankfully I and my friend were done with what we had to do before that started so I stayed home inside and kept warm. Tonight my walking group meets, I hope it isn't too cold out again. But hey, I "chose" to move here, lol! Everyone knows our warm time doesn't start till later. We can't even plant anything till after Memorial Day. I learned that lesson one year. I had a container garden at the time and ended up carrying my plants in and out of the house everyday till it warmed up. Doesn't sound too difficult till you take my cat into consideration who loved to eat plants! So the plants all had to go into the bathroom with the door shut! Too funny! I never planted before Memorial Day again.

Kate - Fantastic job on the weight training reps!!! Wow, 225!!! A good friend of mine offline goes to UB (SUNY Buffalo) which means he has a similar time left. Thanks for the reminder!! You must be excited about the upcoming summer. :)

Everyone - Have a great day today!! I have major grocery shopping today (again!). Seems like I am always shopping these days... darn healthy living that requires fresh fruits and veggies...

Ways to Make Fitness Fun (fitness article)

This article talks about doing things outside like sports related stuff but I also find that being creative with what I interpret as exercise can make it fun too like gardening or like yesterday with moving boxes. My buddy has a bad back so I lifted the ones from the ground. They were light enough to do two at a time so I "squatted" and stood up properly from a full squat, did lunges (stairs) and twisting motions with lifting motions. They were being stacked 8 high which is much higher than my head, lol. It was work but because it was with my friend, it was fun too and a great workout! (and yes Kate, you are probably right about counting this as weight training; maybe I should recalculate it.)

Hi ladies!

Hope everyone's had a good day today! 2nd day in a row I'm hitting my planned calorie range. emoticon Today was weight training, I contributed 225 reps to the challenge points.
I also found out that my apartment complex has reopened the fitness center for 24 hours, so I can split my hour of walking on walking days into 30 min in the AM and 30 in the PM - that makes it much easier to fit into my schedule. Oh... and the strawberries are DIVINE!
Still counting down the days til school ends. 29 more school days!

@Amy - I bet getting the RV unstuck was a major challenge! Thank goodness for the folks who helped you out. Sounds like the event was lots of fun.

@Cathy - I'm with you. Last week kind of swamped me too. We'll both do much better this week, I know it!

@Alex - sounds like you could count those boxes for weight lifting. Enjoy your much deserved rest.

Hi Tulips,

Not much to write today. I helped a friend move 4 pallets of boxes, each pallet have 24 boxes on it, fortunately moderately light. I am considering that my exercise for the day, lol. I'm beat. Haven't done anything like that for a good long while. I apologize in advance for the short replies. I am exhausted and really want to just go downstairs and relax for awhile. :)

Kate - Great job on the walking! Oh and picking your own strawberries, YUM! Sounds like a lot of fun!

Candace - I know what you mean about counting things. I rarely count working around the house, though I should. I did, however, count my box moving time today! lol. Yea for being close to goal!

Tuppence - No worries on getting your points in, you still have about two hours to do it (as I post this). Hope you enjoy your viewing of Les Miserables.

Amy - Welcome back! I will probably let that other challenge go to. My priority is this one and I cannot be on the computer all day. Glad you had a good time and made it home safely!

Cathy - Hope you had a good night. i did manage to read a fair number of the blogs but it does take considerable time so understand how you could only get to a few. We are certainly a sparkteam that likes to write, lol.

Hello Tulips! Ugh, it's been a looonnnnggggg day! I've been on the okay all day and just had a few minutes to check in here. My points for last week were horrible but just had a busy week. Am going to try to find time to do better this week. Loved your blog Amy and Alex. I wish I would have had time to read more blogs than I did. Well, that's it for me tonight. Will try to do a longer reply tomorrow. Goodnight sweet Tulips! ;-)

Hey, Tulips!

I got back from my weekend getaway around dinner time, and spent the last few hours finishing up the challenge by answering blogs. Whew! I'm pooped! LOL

I had a wonderful time despite rain, wind, lots of mud, and chilly temperatures. At least it was nice when we got there on Friday. That was the only time I got exercise in (I didn't count the dancing Saturday night, because it was sporadic!) We took a cab into town and did a lot of walking. At one point on Saturday there were 17 people in our friends' RV!!! - their kids had friends over and we had fun talking and playing games. I didn't stay on my eating program, but I did have lots of veggies. We celebrated my son's and their daughter's brithdays with a carrot cake and ice cream cake and I had a small piece of both. I got on the scale when I got home and was only up a pound, so hopefully I can get back down again. Last night it stopped raining for a bit and there was a rainbow. I took lots of pictures, so I will post a few on the picture area of my SparkPage. (only one is of me though because I was the photographer, lol!) The big challenge came this morning/afternoon when we went to leave and were stuck in the mud (we were in a big field.) It took us an hour and a half and six guys to get us out! (You just can't push a 43 foot RV!) We had to put the jacks down (with boards underneath) so they could push some rocks under the tires for traction.

Tuppence - I love musical theater, but haven't been to a show in a long time. We used to have season tickets to a theater in Philadelphia for years.

Candace - good luck with your next weigh-in. You must be so excited to be close to your goal weight. I'm envious of the strawberry picking! I love fresh strawberries!

Kate - I also am planning on sticking to my fitness plan this week. I am tired of being so sporadic! I just wish the weather would cooperate! I think it's not supposed to be nice here till Thursday.

Alex - we had lots of wind at Penn State last night and this morning. On the way home, I thought the wind would blow our RV off the road (and it weighs 13,000 pounds, I think!) I am also looking forward to the ST part of the challenge this week. I want to get back to my pushups and lunges, and also my kettlebelll workout. I ended up dropping out of the April showers challenge, because I didn't do it this past week!

Cathy - I'm glad your back is gradually getting better! Don't worry about not getting to the trivia this week. I'm glad your business is doing well. I'm looking forward to a short work week. I only have school Monday through Wednesday and then we are off for our spring vacation till next Tuesday!

Here is one of the articles I read today. It's about stopping the exercise excuses. Mine lately has been that I'm too tired and not feeling well. I really need to get myself into a routine, so I promise this week to do at least a half hour of exercise in the morning before work. I still want to sleep in till 6 AM, which means I won't be able to do my schoolwork in the morning, but I'm hoping the morning exercise will get my day starting off better, so I have more energy to do things at night. I'll let you know how it works out tomorrow!

Have a marvelous Monday!!!

Cathy-I just read your message to me-I am trying to check in here. It is really busy around here but that is really not a good excuse because I am a NO EXCUSE person. I will check in more this week. Eventually it will just be something that I do-Right?
