I can understand about the determination thing. Ireally should have tried to avoid the overeating today.
I feel terrible. I overdid it a little today and I really shouldn't have. Pizza is NEVER your friend! It tastes good, but avoid it as much as possible.I don't even want to say how many calories I ate today.Better luck tomorrow.

@Randi & Katelin, thanks for your supportive comments!

I have to really dig my heels in and get the determination I need to avoid over-eating this weekend. Usually on the weekends I relax a bit and don't pay so much attention to my calorie range, but I want to stay more disciplined this weekend. It will be especially difficult because we will eat away from home for ~three~ meals (we rarely eat out at all). For one of these meals I will have a plate of food served to me, and bread & butter plus dessert on the table in front of me.

I remember in this situation in the distant past successfully using a technique of moving away the things served to me that do not fit into my eating plan and saying (out loud or to myself), "These are not mine." I'll have to try that again.

I want to apologize for being totally MIA the last 2 days. My husband and I have both been really under the weather, and speaking of weather, also under a lot of snow! Just got back from a 6 mile run! I feel very lucky not to have to deal with the snow and ice and cold. It staying lighter a little later each week, so that makes it much more enjoyable.

@Katelin, I'm really trying hard to make this last week count and not fall apart on the weekends like I have the rest of the month. I got back to where I was before the holidays, but not any further, so I need to buckle down and get serious in the coming weeks.

What I learned from my quiz today...
Cholesterol is a fat-like substance found in animal foods and in the body’s blood, brain and nervous systems. It is essential to the structure of every cell in the body. The dietary goal for adults is to limit intake to fewer than 300 milligrams of cholesterol each day.

I try to keep it lower than that, so I thought 300 sounded high.

It's hard to think of myself as a penguin when we're having such warm spring weather. I had the privilege of running 8 miles this morning in temps in the high 40s F.

What I learned from today's trivia quiz:

It's a myth that eating late will make you gain weight. Your body doesn't know what time it is when you eat, and it metabolizes all calories the same way, regardless of the time of day they are eaten. There is no real concern with eating late or close to bedtime, unless you find it disrupts your sleep or makes you feel a sick when you lie down to go to bed.

What I learned from my quiz today...
Research published in a July 2007 edition of the New England Journal of Medicine found that when one individual becomes obese, the chance that his or her friend will become obese increases by 57 percent--even if their friend lives far away, and especially if their friend is of the same sex--71 percent in that case.

I found this very surprising.

Today I went on a 6 mile run. Then I came home and shoveled rock in our backyard and take advantage of a great sunny day today.

On trivia I learned that every one needs to get a doctor's release to start an exercise regime. (I never did this) LOL.

I knew about the library having the workout DVD's, but I usually do a workout on exercise tv. They have a good variety including 30 day shred.
What I learned about my spark trivia today...
is that women going through menopause can avoid hot flashes by wearing layers of clothing. That is sort of ironic because I thought it would be just the opposite. emoticon

Wondering what's going on since I see no posts since I checked in late last night (after 9 PM my time on the West Coast). Hope this means everyone is having too much fun exercising to log into SP!

I could not find a time to exercise today. Got up at 4:10, showered, etc., meditated, made coffee & breakfast, ate, dressed, at work before 6:30 AM. Will leave at 4, drive home, walk dogs (very old, very slow dogs, we only walk 0.9 miles in 50 minutes--no cardio here...though I have been known to do walking lunges where the sidewalk's clear of others) 4:30-5:20, then change clothes & leave at 6 to event with DH, ends at 8 PM, then to dinner.

But I finished today what I thought would take two days at work, so that's a huge plus!

Better late than never, I guess! I hope all the Emperor Penguins had a good Thursday & are ready for Friday.

I did strength & flexibility today. I got a yoga DVD at the library to try & I liked it. Then I did my stability ball pilates DVD.

@Katelin, I had forgotten that about iron skillets. It's been quite a while since I had one, but I remember using one all the time when I was pregnant with my two kids.

I learned about the depression thing when I did trivia as well. But today what I learned from my spark trivia is that if your parents have issues or had issues with heart disease it doubles your risk for developing heart related issues as well.

What I learned from my Spark Trivia today...
is that cooking in a cast iron skillet can actually add iron to your food. If you are low on iron just cook in a cast iron skillet. No need for supplements that way. emoticon

The skin-fold test thing is actually quite surprising. I thought that was the least accurate way to find your body fat percentage. I think I will buy one of those measuring tools to try put that to the test.

What I learned from my quiz today....

1. Celery is the conventionally grown vegetable with the most pesticide residue. Makes me glad I only buy organic celery!

2. Skin-fold tests for body fat percentages are 98% accurate. I found this surprising as I thought this type of test was much less accurate than that.

@Margaret: Thank you for the well-wishes. I'm feeling well enough to go to work today & have not gotten tired yet, and only one episode of coughing.

@Sarah, Randi, & Margaret: I woke up feeling skinny when I was about 20 pounds lighter than I am now, six years ago. You motivate me to feel that way again!

Back at work & psyching myself up to start exercising again in earnest tomorrow. I might do some light exercise for max 30 minutes this evening, but I don't want to push it.

Good Morning Penguins! Did you ever get up and say to yourself " I feel skinny today?". Well today I woke up that way. It is a great feeling and I really hope all of you have that feeling one time or another. Today is another run day so I will talk to you ladies later!

Today I learned that exercise that is continuous isn't necessary but 10 minutes each, several times a day work too.

What I learned from my spark trivia today...
I learned that people who don't exercise regularly lose about 1/2 pound of muscle mass each year. That should be motivation to do strength training more often.
